Catherine Gaffin was born in a small town in England on January 8th, 2009. She was born to two loving and protective parents- a muggle and a pureblood. Her parents, Mary and Joseph, had met when her father was out on an auror mission, saving her mother's little garden shop from certain disaster. From there, the two fell in love and quickly eloped, disregarding Joseph's families' protests about his wife being a none pureblood. And then Catherine was born.
Growing up, life was pretty straight forward for catherine. Their town was small and her father was very protective, so she didn't have many friends to play with. Her parents wanted her to have friends of course and never banned her, but she much preferred the local library anyways. There, she could read about anything and everything, learning everything from different places all over the world and their languages to how weather forecasts worked. She loved new information and figuring out how exactly things worked, and was excitedly counting down the days to her eleventh birthday, where she would be eligible to apply to Hogwarts.
She was especially excited about potentially getting the chance to go to the prestigious wizarding school since she was homeschooled by her parents up to that point. However, there was a bit of stress on her as the half-blood daughter, since her father's side of the family were all wizards and expected the same greatness from her. While her parents tried sheltering her from her awfully strict and dismissive grandparents and aunts and uncles, she was expected to attend the annual Gaffin gathering. Her mother wasn't allowed to attend as a muggle, and that fact alone made Catherine hesitant about these gatherings. Needless to say, these gatherings all tended to be stuffy and stiff and horribly tense in atmosphere every year.
Joseph Gaffin was required to bring his daughter to the annual gaffin family gathering. His side of the family is all purebloods, so they tend to look down a bit on his muggle wife and half blood daughter. to get away from the tense atmosphere, catherine wandered into the library- books were her best friend. She found a book that seemed interesting, but the lights were turned down too much. The young girl wondered why her relatives had such ineffective lights, but continued to do her best to read the words anyways. As she focused, the lights seemed to get a little brighter in the previously dim library…
