The first few days of the school year had passed with little fanfare. The first years had all shuffled into the dorm, reminding Kazuo of his first year and causing him to reflect on how things had changed. A year ago he had been withdrawn, shy and sulky, unsure of his place in the vast and alien castle. He had struggled with the language, with the other students, with the differences. He had pursued his studies and his hobbies and eventually had grown used to the Hogwarts way of life.

Yet there were things he refused to change or give up. His music was one such thing. He did not have his instructor here but that wouldn’t stop him from practicing on his own. Moreover, without his instructor dictating what he should play, Kazuo had found himself enjoying his practice time more and had used it to learn and adapt newer music to his shamisen’s sound. Sheet music had been acquired over the summer, a new song chosen to work on.

Kazuo made his way to the rehearsal room after class that afternoon with his shamisen and his sheet music, intent on taking advantage of the general chaos of the start of school to get some private time in. Setting up a chair and a music stand, he reverently took out the pieces of the Japanese instrument and carefully began to assemble it. Neck to body, followed by the strings and the pegs. Picking up the bachi, he moved to the piano and selected a note to tune to. Once the strings had been tightened to the key he wanted, he moved back to his seat and ran through his usual warmup, letting the familiar sounds and fingerings take him to that calm place inside him. From there it was simple enough to flow into the new piece, starting slow at first as he worked his way through the notes. It would have been nice to be able to hear the song as he tried to play it, as he would have been able to back in London, certainly it would have made the learning quicker.

It didn’t take very long at all before Kazuo was lost in the learning process, in the music as it began to come together slowly.

For Kath her lesson today was in the rehearsal room. She got ready and got her books and headed to her destination. She made sure she didn't look like she rushed, But her mood was quite crap for today. As she arrived, she noticed someone was in the room playing. jeez in the afternoon she thought to herself.

It's not like she could judge she too loved to play on her guitars whether it be acoustic or electric. It's not like she would do it in the afternoon. She personally would like to play at night, Playing at night has a certain vibe to it, as if you are playing from the true heart. But practising in the afternoon just felt as if you were forced to practise it due to academics or tutors.

It feels as if people had no more taste these days, Katherine thought to herself. She took a small peek it seemed as if it was a guy, he was playing an instrument that looked almost like a guitar but it wasn't, maybe it was an instrument from his country. Katherine sighed, didn't he know that in the afternoons there are usually lessons or something.

She let out a small sigh and let her fingers brush through her hair. Well, she had come early, and she wouldn't definitely go back so might as well enter. Katherine had entered the room her aura strong and cold as usual spitting confidence. She then scanned the room quickly, Noticing the guy. He had set up his chair and got comfortable enough to practise.

She wasn't in the mood for anything today, She walked up to him not too close, but enough to actually hear her from all the noise. She spoke clearly "we got it, Beethoven, you can play. But people have classes now don't you think? I for example have one now right here, so if you don't mind packing and I don't know find yourself another place to play I don't really care",

She paused and would scan the boys every move but won't show it, It's not like she hated the music he was playing. the instrument was new to her and the tunes and rhythms he was playing were fascinating to her. She wouldn't show it of course, But she couldn't help but act her cold way. She understood the feeling when someone gets lost in their music.

She always did that when she played back home with her electric guitar, She loved the rock genre. But she always got scolded by her father for it. Plus she hasn't forgotten that her father told her to focus on her study and all the other important things than playing on her guitars. Which hurt Katherine, so she ends up playing at home. Or if you are lucky enough to find her playing on her guitars out of home.

It was abnormally rare to find her playing outside of her home. But she couldn't help but play when she is feeling a strong emotion that is in need of a release. Her music turns out to express the way she is feeling or sometimes she controls how it turns out, It was in her hands. So watching other people play was kind of frustrating on her.

Even a part of her would be a little jealous since they had more freedom than her. She would never tell or show anyone that. She now scanned the room to find a chair to place and sit on while waiting for her lesson to begin. She would find one and sit on it, she would place her books and items next to her on the floor.

She would wait to notice the guys reaction, whether that would be by stopping or continuing. She would fiddle with her family ring and sit patiently, her expression is quite stoic. Awaiting for the next move.
