It Won't Hurt a Bit
27th July 2021#00b88a- Gabby speaking
#00b88a - Nina (Gabby's mum) speakingGabriella had made quite a few friends over her first year at Hogwarts, but she hadn't actually arranged to meet up with any of them over the summer. Gia, she reasoned, she'd see at summer camp, and it seemed strange to be meeting up with Atlas anywhere other than the Owlery or a secluded corridor where she could cry. Ellie she had mainly lost contact with. And although Everly was by no means her best friend, and they had only met a couple of times, it was her she chose to meet up with.
Well, more to the point, it was Everly that had owled Gabby asking to meet up. Everly was a pure-blood, and Gabby was a muggle-born, and a lot of their friendship revolved around Gabriella teaching Everly things about the Muggle world. With amusement she recalled the first time the friends had met, and Gabby had to explain to the Gryffindor exactly what a ballpoint pen was and how it worked. Everly, she remembered, had been amazed that such a contraption could exist.
This time, Everly had reached out to Gabriella because she was planning to have her ears pierced. Now, how Everly knew Gabby had her ears pierced the Ravenclaw didn't know, as she rarely wore her earrings any more except from on special occasions, but she supposed her friend had noticed the small holes on her earlobes and added two and two together. Gabriella had responded enthusiastically to Everly's owl with yes, for definite, and the two had made plans to meet up and get Everly's ears pierced. They were to meet up in Canterbury, Everly's home town, on the 27th of July outside the ear-piercing place.
"Got your toad?" asked Nina, Gabby's mother. Gabriella patted her jacket pocket, in which her new toad, Aster, was sleeping.
"Wouldn't leave him behind," grinned the girl, shutting the door of the car behind her. The mother and daughter walked down the street, following instructions on Nina's phone - Gabby's mother had managed to find directions.
"There it is," said Gabriella suddenly, pointing to a shop in the distance. She noticed that Everly was already standing outside. "There's Everly."
"Alright," replied Nina. "You can run ahead if you want. I'll catch up. Do you want me to take Aster?"
Gabriella shook her head - her mum had made a habit of being very overprotective of Gabby's toad - and jogged off down the street. "Hi, Everly!" she grinned. "Nice to see you again! My mum's just coming..." She gestured to her mother, who was - slowly but surely - making her way towards the pair, then turned to grin at her friend, her eyes bright. She hadn't realised how much she missed socialising.Word count: 472

honestly idk lol I suck at thread names ──────────────────Everly scoured her brain for someone who she knew who could help her with her mission - certainly not her family members, who hadn't known of it either (and she definitely didn't trust her brothers with a needle), so she had to find someone else. Everly had met her fair share of new friends at Hogwarts, but one she knew stood out particularly.
Everly hadn't known who to reach out to at all. It wasn't until barely a few months ago when she'd learned that Muggles used things and punctured holes in their body. She'd been shocked, amazed, frightened, and awed, and from that point she knew she wanted to try it.
Everly had met Gabby in interestingly similar circumstances. Everly had discovered Gabby writing her assignment with a ballpoint pen, and had uncovered the beautiful invention that was the biro. From then, Everly had used every possible moment to use a ballpoint pen, amazed by the tiny contraption. Since then, Everly regarded Gabriella as her go-to friend for all things Muggle (but seriously, who came up with the concept of parking meters? How? What? Huh?), and thus, had reached out to her about the whole holes-in-your-ears thing. She had noticed that Gabby had holes in her ears as well (she'd been meaning to ask about it, so this was perfect) and now she could learn.
The two had agreed to meet up on the 27th of July. The location that Gabby had instructed she go to wasn't that far at all, but she and her mother still had a lengthy conversation about transportation, and if they should use Floo Powder or not (hey, they were lazy). Eventually, they agreed that popping out of someone's furnace probably was not the best idea for these circumstances, and decided to walk.
Everly and January arrived, Everly searching for any sight of Gabby. Soon enough, Everly spotted the brunette, and made her way over. "Gabby! Gabby!" Everly exclaimed excitedly, hyper from the anticipation of what was about to happen. "Hi! Thank you so much for agreeing to help me out," she continued.
"Yes, Everly's been bugging me about this for ages," January commented, sidling up from behind Everly. Everly giggled sheepishly. It was true, she was excited for this.
"Oooh, wait, what's that?" Everly spotted Gabby's mother's phone. She examined it closely. It was a little rectangle box that seemed to light up. Interesting.
