"Hello Little One"
20 August 2021ReducioMentioning @Vivian Fletcher"We are almost there!" Anne said with a surprisingly amount of happiness. They weren't shopping for her, they were shopping for Samantha, why was she so excited? Samantha looked at her sister, confused on how she knew where they were going. Sam thought her parents wouldn't have told her sister, just like her aprents hadn't told her anything.
"You know where we are going?" Samantha knew that they were getting her birthday present, but she had no idea what is was or where they were going. On her birthday, almost a month ago, her parents didn't have a present for Samantha. They said that they would get it together when they were back in England, because Samantha had to be there to pick it, whatever it might be. Since her birthday the young girl had tried to find out what she would get, but her parents wouldn't let anything slip. For a whole month Samantha had waited to find out. Even though Samantha is very patient, a whole month waiting for a present feels like a lifetime for a twelve year old.
The brunette turned to her parents, who were walking hand in hand. "Does Anne know what I am getting for my birthday?" Sam had switched to English as she asked her mother the question. You could hear the jealousy in her voice. "Yes, she does. She actually came up with the idea." Her mother answered.
Samantha squinted her eyes, that wasn't reassuring. "Are you sure that I am going to like it?" Sam asked in Dutch, now looking at her father. It was safe to say that Samantha and her sister had a very different taste. Most things her sister likes, Sam hates. "I am sure you will love it!" Her father told her.
Her parents stopped. "We are here." The young girl looked up, they were standing in front of a pet store. This couldn't be right, she had never asked for a pet or had ever longed for a pet. Maybe they stopped at the wrong store? Samantha stood on her toes trying to see what store was next to it, maybe they had to be there."Sam, are you coming?" Her sisters voice reached her ears, conforming that they really had to be in the pet store. Her parents had already gone into the pet store and her sister was holding the door open for her.
The store smelled surprisingly well, Samantha had expected a really bad smell because of all of the pets. Her parents were already waiting for her. Samantha rushed to her parents, "Are you guys buying me a pet?" She tried to show no emotion. She didn't want a pet. They were useless, they couldn't help you with anything. They needed to be feed and you needed to take care of them. They just consumed time, time she could spend on other important things. But she didn't want to look ungrateful, she didn't want to look like a spoiled brat and most importantly she didn't want to hurt her parents feelings. That's why she kept quite and did not tell her parents she didn't want a pet.
"Yes, an owl to be exact." Her mother smiled, she seemed proud of the present. It was like she thought it was the perfect gift. Samantha couldn't understand why, but luckily her sister explained it.
"So I was thinking. So you are far away from us, and to sent us a letter you need an owl. You used the school owls last year, but in the vacation you couldn't use those. If you have your own owl you can always send a letter from wherever you are! You won't even need Wi-Fi! And that way we can keep contact easier, because I missed you last year. Just a little bit tho." Anne smiled, she loved teasing her younger sister. They both knew that they had missed each other terribly over the past year.
"That's... smart." Samantha couldn't believe she just said that to her sister. Normally it was the other way around. Samantha was supposed to be the smart sister, and Anne the pretty one. Not that Anne was stupid or Sam was ugly. But in Samantha's head her sister had the beauty and she had the brains.
Samuel, Samantha's father, had already made his way to the owls. "Hey Sammie, what about this one?" The pointed at a Great grey owl with yellow eyes. Samantha didn't like it, it was scary. She shook her head. "No, thank you." She gave a little smile. "I can look on my own, thanks dad."
This wasn't the plan. She wasn't prepared, she didn't know how to take care of an owl, she didn't know what kind of owl was the best to get. Why couldn't her parents have told her she would get an owl! She would be prepared then. But then she remembered that her best friend loves owls, Vivian must be able to help her. And of course she could read some books about owls, nothing she can't handel.
Samantha eyes rolled over the available owls. There were so many kinds of owls, so much options. Her eyes rolled over two large owl, between them there was a empty space. Maybe the owl that was suppose to be there was already sold or it flew away. Samantha's eyes went back to the empty place again, curious to find out where the owl had gone. But when she looked for the second time she saw a very tiny owl. It seemed to be the size of Sam's hand. On both sides of the little owl were bigger one, but the little owl seemed didn't seem to care about any of the other owls. Proud, that was the word Samantha would use to describe the little owl. He reminded her of herself, between all the taller and older students at Hogwarts.
She liked him, maybe getting an owl wasn't that bad. Of course this one wouldn't be able to fly very long or with heavy packages, but he was perfect for Sam. She didn't care about how big he was. Samantha walked closer to the little owl and took a better look at it. He had brown feathers that would be perfect to hide in trees.
It seemed to be the perfect little owl for the little witch. But the pice, 15 galleons. That was way to much. She couldn't ask that from her parents. Quickly the young girl walked away from the little owl, determined to find an other, cheaper owl. Even though there were so many other owls to pick from Samantha couldn't get the little one out of her mind. Apparently she wasn't the only one who had noticed the small owl. "Look Sam, this owl is adorable!"
Samantha walked to her sister who was now talking to the little owl in a high voice. "Yes, aren't you a cutie. So small, so cute." The little owl screeched, to Samantha it sounded indignant. Anne looked up as she saw Samantha arrive. In her normal voice she told her younger sister. "Could you image this tiny owl flying with a letter? I would be surprised if he even got in the air." Anne giggled finding the idea very funny.
"I am sure he can do anything he wants to!" Sam replied annoyed. "And he isn't cute, he is just small. It would be the same as calling me cute." Samantha gave her sister a dirty look. She always got annoyed when people called her cute or though she couln't do things other people could. She felt like she had to protect the little owl from her sister. It hadn't been his choose to be so small.
"But Sammie, you are cute!" Anne smiled and walked away, leaving Sam and the tiny creature alone. "Hey little one, don't listen to her she doesn't know what she is talking about." She told the little owl. She had surprised herself by talking to an animal, she never did that. Animals didn't understand humans anyway, so why try. But somehow Samantha felt the need to talk to this little owl, telling him that everything was going to be alright. "You know what, I like you. I will take you home and I will make sure everybody knows how amazing you are!"
After her parents had paid the shop owners it was time to decide a name. Samantha had decided that she would let her sister pick the name, because she had some up with the idea of an owl. "Anne, what do you want to name him?" Samantha hoped her sister would come up with a good name. The young girl patiently waited on her sister. I think I like Amenadiel. I think it suits him" Samantha liked it, but what about the little owl? "What do you think about Amenadiel, little one?
