Finally, they were at the ice cream shop. Samantha's morning had been awful. She had planned out everything she wanted to do before she would meet with her quill pal. The first part of the morning went well. She had made the list of things she had to pack for their trip to the Netherlands, read a few chapters of her book, chatted with Lexi and Amber, annoyed her sister and had gotten ready to go out.

However, that's when the bad part came. She had been ready, but her dad wasn't. He had forgotten that he had to bring Sam to the ice cream place, even though she had reminded him the day before. He had been out cycling, enjoying the weather. Samantha's mom had been getting groceries, so she wasn't able to bring her youngest daughter.


That was why Samantha had stolen borrowed her sisters phone and called her dad to tell him had had to come home right away. When her dad was finally home he still had to take a shower and they only had 5 minutes before she had to be at the ice cream place. On top of that Anne got angry that Samantha had borrowed her phone without asking. After a discussion that lasted 15 minutes they finally got in the car.

Samantha being the punctual kid she is had been annoyed the whole car ride, why couldn't they be on time for once? She was sure Simon would hate her for being late, she would hate it if that had happened to her. Her father had calmed her down, reassuring his youngest daughter that it was going to be fine.

"Bye dad, I have to go!" she slammed the car door behind her. 11.20, 20 minutes late. She started to run, avoiding all the shopping people. She ran as fast as she could, while trying not to get lost.

Finally, there it was. She hoped that she wasn't the last one to be there. Simon would probably already be there, but Sam had no idea about Chaleur. She secretly hoped that Chaleur was much later then her, so it wouldn't look so bad on her.

Samantha opened the door, breathing heavy. The store was pretty busy, which was no surprise with this weather. Her blue eyes scanned the crowd looking for the familiar face of Simon. She found him sitting all alone waiting, something he had probably been doing for the last 20 minutes.

Sam's head was red, it was unclear if it was because of the fact that she had run or that she was ashamed. "Hi-," the girl took a deep breath, "I am so sorry I am so late, it is just- my dad, he forgot." It sounded like a lame excuse, but it was true.

She took a seat next to Simon. "I hope you haven't been waiting for to long! Anyway how are you?" Her breathing had returned to normal and her head to.

When Simon told her not to worry about it, it was a big relief for her. She still was a little annoyed at her dad, as she hated coming late somewhere. But her biggest worry, that Simon would hate her, was gone.

"Ohh, yes, Chaleur," To be honest, Samantha had forgotten about her. After Chaleurs letters stopped coming, Sam had just assumed that she forgot or at least didn't care enough to reply on her letters. "It would be fun if she showed up, but we could also have fun together."

When Simon mentioned his wedding day Samantha giggled. She had an amazing time at the ball, it had been pretty weird, but most of it had been fun. Sam had no idea what had happend after Simon and Haley got married, but she hoped that they were doing good. Simon didn't seem to be afraid to talk about it, so probably nothing bad happend.

Samantha couldn't resist asking about the status of Simons symbolic marriage. "So how are you and your wife? " A little giggle escaped her mouth, it was weird saying something about a wife to a twelve year old.

"So far my summer is amazing!" Samantha got off her seat and followed Simon. "Vivian, you know Vivian, she was also at your wedding. Anyway, she is my best friend," Samantha had to make that clear, so next time she would mention Vivian Simon would know their relationship. "She stayed over for a week, and we did a lot of things. We went biking, swimming, we eat icecream, it was really good icecream and we played games. And we also talked. Of course we talked, we talked a lot, it was lots of fun!" While Samantha was rambling they had already reached the line. The young girl took a look at the line, it was long. Very long, it was a good thing that she was patient.

"And well, it didn't happen yet, but I will go to the Netherlands soon and there I will see my friends and family agian. But I think I already said that in my letters. And when I am there, in the Netherlands, I will also celebrate my birthday with my whole family. Except my moms side, of course. They live in England, so they can't come. Well, they could come, but I don't see my grandparents get on a plane just for my birthday." Samantha giggled, the idea of her grandmother in a plane to visit her birthday was something she found quite amusing.

In a conversation the goal was that both people were talking, that was something Samantha had to reminder herself of sometimes. This was one of those times. Simon had asked about something she was very passionate about, so she started rambling. She turned to Simon, determaint to have him talk and she would listen. "And how was your summer so far? And are you planning on doing fun things soon? Maybe you are going to summer camp?" These three question should at least keep him talking for half a minute, even if he gave the shortest anwers possible.

The line was slowly moving forward as people pick and payed for their ice cream. Where other kids might have become inpatient, Samantha was patiently waiting for her turn. She already knew what she was going to get, so she was listening to Simon, who was talking about his summer.

"The wife will be there."

The young girl let out a giggle. She found it very funny to think that Simon is already married. He was her age, well one year older, and he was already married. Samantha wasn't even thinking about love, let alone marrying somebody.

"Do you have lots of muggle friends and how do you keep in contact with them?" Sam was curious on how Simon handel having muggle friends as this was something she had struggled with a lot. She had to lie to her friends and it had made them less close.

"Why would you go to summer camp? Don't you want to spend some time with your aunt?" Samantha had big eyes, she didn't understand it. Family was very important to her and she tried to be with them now she could. She wouldn't give up four whole weeks with her family for summer camp. She loved Hogwarts, but she loved her family even more.

When it was almost their turn Simon asked what Sam was getting. "Strawberry! I love strawberry and I will also get something else, but I will ask the person who gets the ice to surprise me! It will be a little like the beans, you never know what you will get!" The brunette grinned, as she was really proud of her idea.

Samantha understood the struggle of having to change the way the letters get delivered. She used her parents. She would write a letter for her friends and her parents would text it to her friends. When they had replied her parents would print it and send it to their daughter via owl.

The brunette nodded, "Yes! I would never want to stay away from this world. I feel like I really belong here now." In the beging of her magical journey the girl had a hard time feeling at home with all the magical things, but now it felt more like home then the muggle world did. She belonged here, nowhere else.

"Twenty-six?" She repeated the words of Simon. The judgement was clearly hearable in Samantha's voice. "That's really young! How come she is so young? You are like 12? So she would be like, 14 when you were born!" The shock made Samantha really rude. She was really judgmental, without even knowing what happend.

He hadn't tried Bertie's Every Flavor Beans? "What a shame! They are really good, well. Most of them are." She quickly corrected herself. "First I was really scared to tried them, because what if you get something bad. But it that is the most fun of it!"

"Wait, you don't like sweets, do you? You said something about it in our letters!" She thought back to their letters. Samantha had a great memory, so she knew what they had written about. "I said I'll have you taste hagelslag sometimes, so I will do that. When I am back from the Netherlands I will have some boxes with me and you can taste some of that! What flavor would you like? There is milk chocolate, dark chocolate, vanille with mild chocolate and fruit hagelslag, but that one is really really sweet like it is just sugar."

When it was their turn to order, Simon picked lemon, something Samantha would have never picked. Samantha ordered her ice cream and her eyes carefully followed the ice cream scoop to figure out what her random flavour was going to be. It stopped at a pink flavour, with a little bord saying it was Drooble's Best Blowing Gum flavour. Perfect, that sounded like an awesome taste. Samantha greedily took her ice-cream cone, and didn't make a big scene out of the fact that Simon was paying. She actually really liked it, it was really sweet of him.

Totally in love with her ice cream she sat down at one of the tables. She was to focused on her ice cream to noticed where she sat down, she just went for the first empty table she was.

Not much came before talking for Samantha, but ice-cream did. The conversation would have to wait a little, because she didn't want to have to eat melted ice-cream. After she had eaten most of her ice she answered Simon. "I don't think it is daunting at all, it seems like lots of fun to me." She answered shortly, because she saw a little drup making its way down her cone. She couldn't let it go to waste, so she went back to eating.

"We will not be the little firsties anymore, I like that idea." She had taken a break from eating, to talk further. Samantha would always stay little, even though she wasn't a first year anymore.

Samantha couldn't stop the little giggle that came out of her mouth when Simon said hagelslag. It sounded really weird, hearing a English person who never spoke Dutch try to speak it.

"Passing on the hagelslag is fine. I know more people who don't like chocolate, but you are the first who doesn't like sweets in general. I mean I could never. Sweets are amazing, well in my opinion. They aren't healthy, but they do taste good, well I think they taste good." She smiled, she didn't want to offend the boy. She made it really clear that he was entitled to have his own opinion.

"What?" Her eyes widened, what did he mean? No quill companions anymore? Why not? He didn't like her anymore? Had she said something that hurt him? The panic could be seen in the young girls eyes. She didn't know what to do, she thought they were beginning to be friends. How could he do this to her? Was it because she had been to late?

She stood up out of her chair, still holding the half eaten ice-cream, ready to leave. It was then when Simon extended out his hand as a friendly gesture. Samantha was confused, what was happening? An upgrade? She sat down again. When Simon asked if he could be her friend a smile appeared on her face.

She shook his hand, "I was shocked, I thought you were going to say you didn't want to be friends anymore. I already thought we were friends! There is no need to be so official about it!" She laughed, she was really happy that Simon did want to be/stay friends.

"I mean, I am really easy with calling people my friends. And I think I already thought of you as a friend at the blossom ball, I mean I don't just marry anybody to somebody. Well I have only married you so far and it wasn't even marrying I was a witness, but you get what I mean." Her eyes were shining and on her face was a big smile. Samantha continued eating her ice-cream.
