Is this deja vu?
Gabriella pushed her way through the heavy crowd and squeezed into a compartment. Is this deja vu? she thought to herself, remembering that it had been exactly the same the previous year, except she had been significantly shyer back then, with significantly fewer friends. She tried to remember the names of the people she'd sat with on the train to first year. There had been Blair - she would always hold a special place in Gabby's heart for being the first person she ever met at Hogwarts - there had been Amelia, Natalia, one incredibly stern boy called Mathias and a girl who spoke very little English, Alana or Elena or something. There had been one other, too, a girl, but Gabriella couldn't seem to recall her name.
It was a shame, she thought, that she hadn't kept in touch with any of these people. Unfortunately, she hadn't kept in touch with many of the people she'd met through the first term of first year. She didn't think this was entirely her fault - Joyce Corcoran had got bored of her, Elliot Jones just stopped responding to her owls after a while - but she supposed some of the blame had to fall on her. She'd kept in touch with Ellie Griffin a little bit. One could argue that Ellie Griffin had been Gabby's first proper 'friend', who had comforted her on her very first night. They had only met a couple of times since, but she was nice, and Gabriella had invited her to join her on the Hogwarts Express. She had also invited Gia, her best friend, and Atlas, her closest friend.
It was strange how "best friend" and "closest friend" meant different things in Gabriella's life. Gia was, undoubtedly, her best friend. The girls laughed together, joked together, tried to do as much as possible together. But Atlas had helped her through so much last year... and she had no doubt the Hufflepuff knew far more about Gabby than Gia did, maybe more than anyone else in the world did - including her therapist, Julie.
Gabriella sat herself down on the seat on the right, nearest the window - exactly where she had positioned herself the previous year, although this hadn't been intentional - and scooped her toad Aster out of her coat pocket. She wasn't dressed in her school uniform yet.
Aster the toad was very new - in fact, Gabriella and her parents had only bought him yesterday, as a last-minute purchase after camp and before Hogwarts. In fact, they hadn't even gone home back to Portsmouth - they had just stayed overnight in a hotel in London with all her Hogwarts things. Since then, Aster had done very little. She had bought him sleeping, and he had still been sleeping in her coat pocket. Now, however, he opened his lazy, little froggy eyes and hopped around a bit on the seat next to her. Julie was right, Gabby thought, it's nice to have a pet. He can keep me company. She stroked the top of Aster's head; immediately the toad closed his eyes again and began savouring his owner's attention. Gabriella felt that she had made very good use of her five galleons.
She checked her watch: it was 10:45, fifteen minutes before the train was due to leave King's Cross. Her friends - and anyone else who wished to join them - should be here any moment, and Gabriella was surprisingly excited.Word count: 582

Is this deja vu?

Evelyn would take a deep breath at the platform as the train screeched to a halt in front of her. Though she had known of the existence of the wizarding world for about 2 years now, she still could not believe half the things she saw. After all, for the first day of school she had to walk through a wall. Evelyn knew that the next few years at this school would most definitely be pretty trippy. Looking around, there where all sorts of people. Some had pets that they where bringing, some had brooms. Wait, brooms? Why would they need them? Was there something magical about them? Evelyn would wonder shaking her head. There sure was a lot of things to get used to in this foreign place. Evelyn would then take a step into the train and immediately try to find a place to sit.
Squeezing her way through the crowd, Evelyn would look through different compartments to see if there where any open seats. The train was starting to fill up faster so Evelyn began to frantically move faster, not wanting to stand for the entire ride. Her mother had told her that Hogwarts was a pretty big school but she really did not believe it until now. Are there really this many students who know magic? Evelyn truly believed that she was special, and she really hoped so too. She was never really good at anything so she thought magic would allow her to please her parents. Evelyn would sigh, it looks like she could never really take anything easily.
Finally, Evelyn saw a room that seemed pretty empty. Taking a deep breath, she would open the door. "E-Excuse me!" Evelyn would exclaim to the one sole person in the compartment. She would say it louder than she usually would. Perhaps she was just releasing all the nervous energy she had. Quickly, Evelyn would blush in embarrassment. She was sure that the girl in the compartment thought that she was some weird person. "C-can I sit here?" Evelyn would ask the girl looking down. She resumed her usual quiet voice but it was loud enough for the other girl in the compartment to hear her. "It-it's okay if you don't want me too! I could find somewhere else if I would be a nuisance!" Evelyn would say nervously waving her hands not wanting to put a forceful attitude. The last thing she wanted was to come of as rude. It was pretty clear that Evelyn's self confidence was lower than the Mariana trench. Evelyn would then build the confidence to look up. The girl in the compartment seemed a bit older than her. Evelyn really hoped that the girl was nice, she really wanted to make some friends in this new academy, something she never really had before.
Hogwarts was a new slate for her, where no one knew her before. Evelyn could be whatever person she wanted to be. It was her chance and Evelyn promised to herself that she would seize it.
