To be Worthy, is to be Cute Pet Finished

[font=PT Sans]He wasn’t necessarily a pet person. You can blame that on three particular boys in his dorm that thought bringing in a pet cat was good for the environment they shared with a kid with cat allergies. Him! He was the kid with cat allergies! Thank god, Percival bought a spider and helped Hanako realize that it was not the pets, in general, that was the problem. It was those three specific dormmates. With that, Hanako thought of a clever idea to get back at them. The best way to fight fire is to engulf it into an even bigger fire.

And there he stood in front of the Magical Mene- man- manager- Magic Pet shop. Grinning in casual clothes with a nervous butler a few feet away from him. For today, he will find his one true guardian! A magical beast strong enough to protect him from those sly furry four-legged demons in the disguise of cats! Or- at the very least keep those pests away from him. Personally, he was never much of a planner when it comes to things like this. Being spontaneous far suited the boy. But this time, he had a few ideas as to what kind of pet he wanted.

1) Must be large in size
2) Must have an intimidating look
3) Loyalty a.k.a never trust cats (optional)

Therefore, he would like someone to answer him a simple question. Why is that despite having an ideal pet in his head, his eyes landed on a snake that continuously pressed its head into the glass that separated them? As if it was suddenly so desperate to get out. And to make matters more confusing, the snake continued to repeat a particular sentence over and over again.

“CUTE!CUTE KID!CUTE FRIEND!NEW FRIEND!MUST-” bonk“ GET-”bonk“CUTE-" bonk“FRIENDDDDD!”.

Hanako could not control his dumbfounded look at the scene. At the very least, he could be assured the snake wasn’t all badly hurt from the continuous bonking. If it was still chanting so enthusiastically, at least.

“ She doesn’t usually do that. From what I’ve seen, she tends to be quite lazy”

An old lady joined in on spectating the odd creature. Although slightly surprised at her presence, his nerves eased as he recognized her as one of the owners of this shop. That- and she gave a warm comforting aura that reminded him of sugar cookies. Who could stay suspicious of that? “ That? Quickly bored? It’s been like that since I saw it. Are you sure we aren’t just having the same dream?”

“ Haha, trust me. I know quite a lot about the animals here. In fact, I believe this is the first time I’m seeing her react so much to a customer” She peered her face closer to the glass container. The snake stopped banging his head to stare at the lady before emitting a loud hiss. Which was easily translated to Hanako as ‘ NO CUTE! SHOO!’. Fortunately, it seems that the old lady didn’t understand that blatant insult so she continued on smiling at the snake. And Hanako wasn’t going to be the one to tell her.

“ Well, that’s fun and all. But this isn’t really the kind of pet I was hoping for. “

“Oh? And what might you be hoping for?”

“ I am glad you asked. Okay, I’ll spare you the tedious details. But basically, I need a pet that’s strong, intimidating, and if possible, known to be loyal. The first two are mandatory, but other than that, anything is fine. Oh! Maybe those owls with the angry eyebrows I saw on the way in? They look promising!” As if he was telling a joke, the old lady sniffled a laugh.

“ I believe I can promise you someone else that fits what you want” Hanako gave out a nervous laugh as she extended her arm to the lowkey crazy snake.

“ You...you’re joking?Right?”

“ I don’t joke about these things, dear. She will eventually grow up 240 centimeters. She's still just a baby"

"That explains her lack of vocabulary"

"I'm sorry?"

"I said, that explains her really long body"

"Right...anyways. Therefore, her intimidation will only increase from now.. As for strength, as a snake, she cannot lift a boulder for you. But as for loyalty, I believe with how she looks so happy when you enter, I doubt there will be a problem with that. What do you think?”

This had to be a joke, right? How was a snake whose main use of vocabulary is ‘cute’ help him in any way possible? Yet, he couldn’t take his eyes off her. And neither could she.

“ CUTE! YOU!“

She seemed like a lot of trouble. Not to mention his well-predicted headaches from her constant screaming. Then, the thought of returning home without her oddly gnawed at his heart. Having him take a few moments of contemplation before returning to the old lady to tell her that he wants to take the snake home.
