Team 1, Clue 4
WHEN: June 20, 2021
Team #1
@Scarlett Aden
@Rose Moon
@Katrina Walker
@Piérre Marchonné
For every clue given, it seemed this team got more and more in sync. Each one of them contributed nicely to an overall dynamic that sought the win, eager to puzzle out the hidden meanings of the riddles presented to them. This time was no different than the last. From the moment they had arrived at the door to the Muggle Studies classroom, the gears within their minds began to spin, working out the finer details of their next card. Rose seemed to take the lead on this occasion. While initial thoughts might have sprung to mind that it could be directing them to the greenhouse, given the terms such as growth, season and seed, this little lioness would not be deceived.
Instead, she deduced that they could just as likely be sports terminology. Passing on that notion to the rest of the team, she hardly seemed convinced. A shred of doubt laced her suggestion, but whether she put much stock into it or not, she seemed to discard it to the winds and decide that the pitch was worth the investigation. Rose hardly seemed to even want to wait to find out what the rest of the team thought, turning on her heel and backtracking the way they'd come in order to bee-line it for the pitch before the rest had had time to speak. They could speak on the way, apparently!
Regardless, it seemed Rose had been on to something, and Evelynn pursed her lips curiously as she watched, lingering in the shadows at a distance. She really would have to make it more difficult next time. But for now, the team would be rewarded by the familiar sight of an enveloped pinned to the nearest stands at the pitch. It would read:Team #1 — Clue #4Here, to some, is ponderously dull;
Facts and stories to sooth and lull,
But others find intrigue with epic mystery
Lost to time, the rest—as they say—is...
OOC InformationReducioHow does the game work?
We spent a lot of time to create individual paths for every team. The goal of every team is to reach the final location and the team that gets there first wins. But as simply looking who posts there first would hardly be fair, we have thought of another way to determine, which team was the quickest (I will come to that in a second). I will supply every team with one clue at a time. Once you solved it, I will give you the next. You might find that some are easier than others, but I have given some difficult clues to every team, I don't doubt that there will be struggles at a certain point. In that case, you may ask for hints. For the sake of fairness, the Slytherins will have to ask Evelynn, the Gryffindors have to ask Opeila.
We will post a new thread for every single clue. Once those threads are up, you will have to post 700 words- as a team, multiple people together or one single person, I don't care- that include the solution of the riddle. The solution of the riddle is not always a location. You'll need to tell us the solution to the riddle we gave you- just saying a location that could as well be a good guess is not enough.
How is the time calculated?
We only count the time that you guys needed to figure out the riddle. The time between you solving one clue and us giving you the next, as well as the time between you asking for a hint and us replying will be substracted. Differences in timezones or a busy afternoon of a mod are not supposed to be the reason for a team to lose. But to motivate you to try your best with the clue before you ask us for hints, there is a penalty. For every hint you ask for, there will be 12 hours added to your total time as well as another 200 words to write after we give you the hint.
Also please write into every post what team you are in and your wordcount. Otherwise the calculations may take longer than necessary.
Enjoy and good luck!

speech #bf0040────── ☆ ───────@Rose Moon @Katrina Walker @Piérre MarchonneAfter Scarlett's first proclamation of the answer to the first clue, they had been on a roll in her opinion. Each of her teammates had a chance to shine - apart from Katrina, who stayed oddly quiet throughout the whole thing - by deducing answers and leading the chase to the next location. It reminded her briefly of the wild goose chase she had participated in back in October, when the Fall Ball had been on. Running around Hogwarts, figuring out things and finally coming to a conclusion? Yes, the two did share many similarities. Except this time, the event was a lot more organised than before.
Beforehand, they had been trying to think of a team name, of sorts. As they idled around, Rose had piped up with a contribution - the Lava Lions. Though it was probably intended to be a casual suggestion with no real insistence behind it, they had needed to get moving and everyone else's brain seemed to have lacked creativity - including hers - so the Lava Lions it was. Her mouth curled up into a little smile at the name. It was so silly but it had what Fiona would call character. The Lava Lions: Scarlett, Rose, Pierre and Katrina. "I love it!" said Scarlett, with a grin at Rose's team name proposition. Though Scarlett would've probably said 'I love it' to any suggestion as to not hurt feelings, she actually meant her words this time. "It's perfect. The Lava Lions it is! Now we only need a team mascot, logo, slogan, motto..." She trailed off with a joking smirk. "Just kidding, I'm not going to make you think that much when we already have a scavenger hunt ahead of us."
They reached the library and Scarlett wasted no time. She didn't go through her normal routine, her appreciation of places - breathing in the musky scents and glancing over at the shelves and shelves of old books - instead, her eyes landed right on a massive book, alone on a table. "There's our clue," she announced. Rose opened the page and took it out, reading it out loud. Staring at the paper, she scratched her nose absent-mindedly, in slight confusion. "Muggiest duels. What does that mean? The duelling club?"
This time, Pierre would have his moment in the spotlight. Him and his Bengal cat had both shut their eyes, Pierre scratching the kitty under his chin. It was a slightly odd sight, but then again, Scarlett made fish noises to try and get Sparta to just come over and behave.-owner quirks aside, Pierre opened his eyes again after some thinking. Announcing his conclusion and scribbling it out his arm.
An anagram.
Scarlett wasn't particularly educated in the name, but she did recognise what the concept was. She gaped. "Pierre, you genius!" she said, a bit too loudly for the library. She quieted down again. "How in Merlin did you get to that answer? You're not being stupid, of course! I'm silly-" She pulled a face, just to emphasise said silliness. "-but that doesn't mean I'm dumb. To Muggle Studies!"
And they were off again. As they entered the Muggle Studies classroom, Scarlett looked around, determined to remember the aspects of the classroom she would be studying in next year. She intended to take Muggle Studies even though she knew quite a lot about Muggle Studies. She didn't do it to be smart, she just wanted a good laugh. There was an envelope in front of them, and Rose wasted no time in picking it up and reading the clue inside.
Scarlett thought for a few seconds. Rose pondered the clue for an even less amount of time. Voicing her thoughts out loud, Scarlett listened quite rapturously before exclaiming, "That makes...perfect sense! I'm surrounded by geniuses guys." She smiled again at Rose. Cracking her knuckles, she continued. "We're doing so well, and I - we - don't intend to stop anytime soon. Isn't that right?" And then she was off again, practically flying - pun intended - to the Quidditch Pitch.
Once they had all reached it, Scarlett caught sight of a note pinned to the nearest stand. Though at the library, she could resist revelling in the atmosphere of the location, the Quidditch Pitch would prove just a bit too attractive to Scarlett. She pictured the games she had played and the crowd and the rain and the noise and the banners and the winning...before exhaling and snatching the note. She read it out loud before passing it so the rest of the group could have a look. "Here, to some, is ponderously dull, facts and stories to sooth and lull, but others find intrigue with epic mystery, lost to time, the rest—as they say—is..." She trailed off, brows furrowing. "I don't get it. We've done the library with stories and...and facts. But the library doesn't have just facts. So it can't be that again. And it's somewhere some people think dull but some people think epic. And mystery - mystery - it rhymes with-"
"The History of Magic classroom!" she proclaimed. "Because some people think it's boring but some people think it's cool and mystery rhymes with history and - oh - I get it now! Guys let's go!"word count | 866────── ☆ ───────
