The Dysfunctional Snakes
@Jack Burnett @Flash Homwood @Hanako Tone @Henry Knight
So far the game was going well. Opeila did not regret her decision at all to try and let the team cross paths as little as possible. They were not supposed to know how far the others were. She wanted all of them to give their best, not thinking about the others. And as big as the castle was, somehow it was not big enough to let five... well, actually eight teams run around without meeting each other. So what could possible be done about it?
Exactly! Some of the clues just had to be placed outside, such as the fourth clue for the Dysfunctional Snakes- was that name some sort of insider? Opeila had no idea.
This particular clue she had been worried about. They were in Scotland and it was no secret that the weather here could be more rough than in most other parts of Europe. For that reason, the Slytherin had taken very much care when she pushed the little note into the branch fork of a tree next to the lake and put a stone on top. If it blew into the lake... Well, what would she do? It would be entirely unfair for that team.
But when Opeila checked on it again, she saw that her worrying had been needless. The note was still where she put it.

The Dysfunctional Snakes
Flash had only one motivation for joining the dorm battles, and it was one that anyone could have easily guessed. He wanted to support Opeila, and in part, make sure his own dormmates would not be the ones to cause trouble for her. If it would be anyone, it would probably be his own dorm. He hadn't known it before joining, but it seemed like the Snape dorm had a bit of a reputation. It had only grown in the previous dorm battle that Opeila ran, the reputation for being weak, wild gits. As with anything in his arsenal, he worked with what he had. He spent no extra time in his dorm, let alone Slytherin commons, and avoided most of the Snape boys in passing. Luckily, the only one that he would honestly desire to avoid completely did not sleep in the dorms anymore, and Flash was not about to tell anyone that he noticed. Selim could crawl into a hole and die for all he cared.
Flash stayed silent as the small group of three other dormmates of his puttered about from place-to-place based on a few riddles. Opeila and Evelynn working together to make them had entertained Flash to imagine, though actually being with his own dorm brought little entertainment. He was surprised Hanako spoke up at all, let alone solve the first clue, then Burnett solved the next, though he could likely have solved them all by himself. Henry brought them to the Great Lake with his last guess, his cat terrorizing everyone they came across. He'd like to have been amused by Hanako's sniffling, but he couldn't help but empathize instead when looking at the effects. It looked miserable, he was surprised he was still sticking around.
As for Burnett, he couldn't say why he decided to join. It was even more awkward, on top of other awkwardness between them. They had fought about Flash's friendship with Opeila, and then some time after that, Flash had been hurt because of his friendship to Burnett. Things were never simple, there was always too much to say and no words that made sense. Even though they slept in the same room, even though they were next to each other now, there was relative silence. It didn't help that Henry's foul cat seemed obsessed with him. There was a short moment where the little beast went elsewhere, and Flash was sad to see it return.
As the next riddle was read out loud, the group began to guess at what the answer would be. Flash was mostly glad that so much of the locations had taken them outside, the walking around and fresh air was the least objectionable part about the whole thing. Flash considered inching closer to Burnett, as Hanako was sticking to him more than he really wanted, and he wished he could just... hold Burnett's hand or something. No, on second thought, it wouldn't do any good. It was probably better to just get through the day and move on. Enjoy what he could from nature, so long as none of the collected snakes decided to act out.
It was only after Henry started guessing the Astronomy Tower that Flash's attention was drawn back. Most of the riddles had been fairly straight-forward. They weren't excruciatingly hard by any stretch, but they weren't usually so on the nose. If the riddle really was pointing to the astronomy tower, it would have been a bit too obvious. "Wait, let me see that." It was like he thought, the first line had capitalization of the words Shooting Star and Comet, something the rest of the riddle did not. It only took another short moment for it to click.
"Right. Those are names for brooms. It probably means Quidditch... the training pitch, if they're getting ready to play." Flash would lean back out, looking away again. He had done his due diligence to get them back on the right path. He was the only one there who played, so it wasn't surprising that they missed the hint.
With that, they would continue to move on. When Flash happened to get a bit too close to Henry, his damnable cat began hissing suddenly, which beyond being a bit startling, only grew further resentment in Flash. What was that cat's problem... well, for the day, the cat was the group's problem. Looked like he was going to continue hanging out by Hanako. Great.
