Appearance: Jan has a shock of dirty blonde hair with a relatively tan skin color making it easy for him to fit in among the majority of Durmstrang students. He can commonly been seen dressing very nicely and often wears the family crest engraved into a ring on his right hand signifying their pureblood status for all to see. Personality: Jan Aalberg is a very arrogant individual and thinks very highly of himself. This stems from him priding himself on the family name and usually refrains from mingling with those of Muggle descent or half-bloods. He views them with a sort of disdain and has a sort of misguided view of these indivduals passed down to him by his parents. Those close to him however know that Jan uses this as a guise, the arrogance and pridefulness is a way to lock away any potential weaknesses he might show as the boy hates to mess up or be humilated as word of such thing would probably linger with him for a very long time.

He finds little enjoyment in most things that students his age would do such as playing cards,Quidditch, dueling and tends to have more of a passion towards more interesting topics that others would find weird, horrifying or just flat out crazy. He is extremely passionate about the Dark Arts that Durmstrang teaches and takes a special interest in dabbling in certain experiments regarding these topics.

Jan gets along well with those who are a bit higher up in the blood status hierachy tending to involve himself more with purebloods and those of wizarding origin. He refrains from interacting with other muggleborn and other lesser-blood status students out of fear his family will catch wind of it. It is not necssarily that Jan does not like the other students, just that the Aalberg has brainwashed into his mind not to mingle with these students for a variety of reasons.

History: Jan Aalberg is the heir of the Aalberg family and as such, his family holds him to the most highest expection. Born in Germany, he resided in quite a large residence that boasted many acres of lands. This stemmed from the fact that his parents were very large lawmakers in the German Ministry of Magic passing very shocking bills and laws that would garner the attention of many which is how the Aalberg family secured it's rise to power. Jan unlike most of the other family members never displayed any signs of magic leading his parents to grow disappointed him and a conclusion was drawn that a Aalberg male incapable of even performing rudimentary magic could not be capable of taking on the family name.

One night, as his father prepared the papers necessary to disinherit the boy, scared that if word got out that such a disgrace was part of the Aalbergs, an arguement erupted between the man and his son as Jan did not fully comprehend why his father was taking such a aggresive, hands-on appraoch to his own inability to peformy any magic. The arguement got so heated to the point that somehow, unknown how it had occured, Jan managed to set the documents on fire caused his parents some thought.

They told him they would accept him as part of their family if he accepted three conditons. He would attend Durmstrang Insititue of Magic to learn the skillset necessary to aid the family in their buisness, refrain from mingling with other blood-statuses as that was regarded unaccpetable for someone of his stature and that the only jobs acceptable for someone of his status was a job at the Ministry. Misguided, brainwashed and blinded by the family's viewpoints, Jan accpeted soon turning into the cocky, arrogant indidivual that he is without even realizing it.

Abilities

1) Fearless

Reducio
Jan has always been considered somewhat of a confident person due to his upbringing. He was always taught not to show weakness and that expressing your flaws to anyone regardless of who they are was like giving them a potential weapon. He learned to lock away his emotions for the most part in order to better help him interact with people getting a sense of who they are without betraying his own demeanor. While this sort of philsophy towards others may often lead to interesting encounters at certain occasions, it certainly comes in handy when in situations of stress or panic. Jan tends to maintan a calm and composed expression in the face of such high tension enviorments while inside, he logically deduces how to approach an situation.

This sort of attitude has been drilled into him and forced upon him from a very young age especially from his father. Even if the situation seems impossible or if injury or death seems like a relative possibility, Jan will not hesistate to volunteer to be the first one to undertake such a task believing that confidence and being blunt will see him through. This sort of behavior he has adapted back at home during arguements with his father over his academic performance which has caused the boy who once used to fear his father now sees it as an oppturnity to test his own mettle standing up to him at times. In secret, Jan actually appreciates his father for all the insults and condescending ways he treated Jan as it gave the boy more of a chance to embolden himself and dive headfirst into impossible situations despite the circumstances.

When he is in his 'fearless' state of mind, most would regard him as insane or crazy at best. He speaks calmly and in a low voice and rarely blinks. He has been known to do some quite mindblowing things all in the name of bolstering himself and his lack of fearing anything could very well be a weapon that turns against him. There are only a very few rare things that could truly shake the boy's core and as to that is is a secret best known to him and him alone. Part of his fearless attidue comes from the idea that if one is unable to work their way out of whatever situation they are in without help, they will never be able to progress in life. As such, he often refuses aid in these circumstances and undertakes most of his courageous and insane endeavors alone only accepting aid in extremely rare situations or if the person is insistent enough.

2) Calming Presence

Reducio
Jan has always been more of a composed person. It is rare to see him panic if at all and if he does betray a sigh of panic or distress than the situation must be really dire. While he does have somewhat of an arrogant and high opinion of himself and those close to him, he also regards himself as the counselor for those close to him. He wants those friends and family who rely in him to feel at ease, relaxed and not disturbed that something might happen to them. He listens to their probelms ,offers advice and solutions and even helps out in little errands that might ease their tension. Jan dislikes seeing those close to him in trouble or danger though he displays this caring personality in a very minimal manner. Often, he jests and pokes fun at underlings or younger friends or people close to him as a means of affection.

Though at the same time, he may be silent at times simply gauging reactions of those present in converstation or around him to see how they are behaving. From these simple observations, Jan is able to choose his words carefully to make the person feel more at ease or comfortable in the fact someone is there willing to listen to them or help them through their times of need. It has been said his logical way of going about a situation breaking each problem down one by one and explaining the pros and cons of each decscion has often lead a plethora of people to confide in him. While he does not encourage the person on what to do, he offers them his advice on each route that is available to take in thier current dilemma and which one is feasible to them but in the end, Jan leaves it up to them what to do. This way, the individual is calm knowing they are in control of thier own issues while having another soul to rely on for guidance.

This sort of attitude may also come from the fact Jan has bore so many insults and poor upbringing at home that at this point, any sort of negative emotions other may display upon him, he has practically developed a immunity to it. He has heard so many problems, bore the brunt of many name-calling and seen a lot of mood swings that he is very understanding of issues having suffered many of them himself. While he tends not to reveal too much about his personal life, often he shares personal experiences with people in order to relate to them more and help them understand.

- Perfectionist
Reducio

Jan Aaalberg is defined by three things in everything that he does. Those would be efficeniy, accuracy and effectiveness. Those things fall under his little umbrella of perfection that he has been taught to uphold and that any deviance from that standard is a gross violation of what it means to be an Aalberg. For Jan, it is simply not an option to leave a job half-done or performed in such a manner that it becomes more of a burden. A well-groomed and wealthy lifestyle, it is clear he is held to a high standard within the family and the tasks given need to be performed to such excellency that even the most minisucle of detail need to be gone over with a magnifying glass once or twice. There is no room for error as Jan has come to learn and if any error is found, he will find his reputation and name being dragged through the mud as someone incompatiable, a thought that the boy simply can not fathom to think about after having worked this hard on a variety of things.

From a young age, he has always been taught to do things the right way. Whether it be spell-casting, a mundane errand or something else, there must be no room for error and Jan has taken to that in a heartbeat. It is rare that people have something negative to say about him as his grades are commendable, his work is pristine and practiced hands perform any job perhaps beyond expecations as people struggled to find any flaws or errors that. He thinks of the possibilites and does the task in such a way to addres those flaws before they are brought up, an attitude that he has learned from his father's various meetings and dealings at the German Ministry where perfection is an requirement rather than a suggestion, something Jan firmly believes in.

If there is something that can be improved on or needs adjustment, he did not perform an good enough job though there are very few examples of this in his childhood as being exposed to such high standards at a young defintely helped bolster his attention to detail and a commendable work ethic that most would perhaps shy away from at first sight. Most people would consider him their first choice for their everyday errands secure and safe in the fact that he would not dissappoint and the chance of him coming back empty-handed is slim. Even if the task is not desirable or looks diffcult, Jan will put his heart into it with the knowledge that it is a personal challenge for him and so far, his streak of things going his way has not been broken, a running trend that the boy wishes to contine for years on end knowing if that record is broken, his father's opinion of him will decline greatly, a outcome he wishes to avoid at all costs.

Advanced Casting
Reducio

Wandwork, casting and perfection are all part of Jan's vocabulary. He has been born and raised on a family who's very roots are embedded in the magical aura of this world and the Aalbergs do not tolerate any deficenys in this regard. As such, the boy prides himself on not only being diligent in classes but also being proficent with his magical skills, a firm believer in the fact that all the notes that one can jot down are useless if they can not put them to practical use. He has spent countless hours upon hours of rehearsing and ironing out kinks of even the most minor spells that the boy stumbles across not because Jan has a love for academics or anything of the sort but because he sees it as a necessity on his way up the ladder as people would certainly not follow anyone who does not even have a good handle on their magical skills and for someone as aspiring as Jan, that simply would not do.

It should also be worthy to note that the boy has developed quite the passion and hobby for more practical classes rather than lecture-based which has also probably helped contribute to why he is more well-versed in spell-casting than some of his other peers. He tends to pay a bit more attention, pick up on the more finer points of spells rather quickly and learns how to implement them coupled with a little bit of research on his own has displayed him in a rather impressive light to most and to those who know him well, they would certainly state that it seems like his wand is almost a part of him, an natural extension of him rather than a tool he uses. The lazy flicks of his wand, the relaxed way he pronounces the most complicated incantations are all evidence of months upon months of sheer hard work and frustration before he finally got it right which allows him to utilize most magic with ease having suffered through all the hardships of getting it right early on.

Perhaps it is not even paying attention in class or even being a natural prodigy that has helped Jan. Even the most skilled wizards have their limits after all but perhaps it is out of sense of obligation to his family that Jan believes he has to put on a rather impressive display. After all, the boy knows the shame and dishonor it would bring to the Aalbergs if word got out their faithful son couldn't even get the handle on basic-level wandwork and being outshone by anyone else is a concept that the boy refuses to grasp. He aspires to be the best at everything fully taking advantage of everything that will help him achieve that and he knows the consequences that are waiting should he fail to live up to his family's standards. It is these things and factors that have driven him to develop quite the advanced wand hand and it is rare a spell backfires when he is the one casting it although like anything, there can always be room for improvement.
