Sometimes the simplest of clues had a tendency to trip a team up. Although unbeknownst to many, this had been the case already with one of the Slytherin teams where-in deep meaning and interpretation had been given to nonsense words, where the intent had been only to take the first letters of each to come up with the answer. Great lengths of time had been spent circling down the rabbit hole of that misdirection until a clue had been sought to set them straight and back on track.
When answers initially suggesting the duelling club or one of the locations out in the grounds had been suggested, Evelynn—lingering away between the stacks nearby—thought perhaps the Lava Lions—as they had so named themselves—might have fallen victim to just such a trap. It was easy to see answers where they were none, or to forget that there was more than one way to solve a riddle. Fortunately for them, it seemed that Piérre would not be fooled. Despite looking half dead and yawning every other breath, his keen eyes spotted the oddity in the clue, and correctly deduced its nature as an anagram.
Before long, he had rearranged the letters to read Muggle Studies. It was almost disappointing just how quickly that had been solved. Not even the book had served as any sort of distraction, the contents of its pages entirely disregarded as they focused instead on simply the card. She'd have to keep in mind to make the riddles a touch more complex in future.
But nevermind that for the moment.
The team was off, and she hastened after them with long strides to keep up as they ventured towards the unfamiliar classroom. Just as every other one had been thus far, an envelope awaited their arrival, beckoning them to draw the card from its depths. When they did, the scrawl upon the parchment would read:Team #1 — Clue #3Brilliant young talent
Growing with need
To catch a scout's eye
For next season's seed
OOC InformationReducioHow does the game work?
We spent a lot of time to create individual paths for every team. The goal of every team is to reach the final location and the team that gets there first wins. But as simply looking who posts there first would hardly be fair, we have thought of another way to determine, which team was the quickest (I will come to that in a second). I will supply every team with one clue at a time. Once you solved it, I will give you the next. You might find that some are easier than others, but I have given some difficult clues to every team, I don't doubt that there will be struggles at a certain point. In that case, you may ask for hints. For the sake of fairness, the Slytherins will have to ask Evelynn, the Gryffindors have to ask Opeila.
We will post a new thread for every single clue. Once those threads are up, you will have to post 700 words- as a team, multiple people together or one single person, I don't care- that include the solution of the riddle. The solution of the riddle is not always a location. You'll need to tell us the solution to the riddle we gave you- just saying a location that could as well be a good guess is not enough.
How is the time calculated?
We only count the time that you guys needed to figure out the riddle. The time between you solving one clue and us giving you the next, as well as the time between you asking for a hint and us replying will be substracted. Differences in timezones or a busy afternoon of a mod are not supposed to be the reason for a team to lose. But to motivate you to try your best with the clue before you ask us for hints, there is a penalty. For every hint you ask for, there will be 12 hours added to your total time as well as another 200 words to write after we give you the hint.
Also please write into every post what team you are in and your wordcount. Otherwise the calculations may take longer than necessary.
Enjoy and good luck!

A scavenger hunt! Sounded fun, right?
Rose had signed up for the hunt against Slytherin (as well as some other Gryffindor people) so that she could have some fun with other people. She came in the Common Room to find people gathered there, and watched Evelynn, who she was pretty sure was one of the organizers of the event.
She had dressed in very casual clothes for this, and was aware of Chaska trailing after her. Chaska was just over a year now and her silky silver fur was grown in. Rose had gotten to brushing it every day, and Chaska had gotten to shedding absolutely everywhere. It didn't help that it was summer. Maybe she would need to get Chaska a haircut sometime. Do you give cats haircuts?
Aaaaanyway, she met up with Scarlett, Pierre, and Katrina. Rose was very good friends with Scarlett, and knew Katrina a little. Pierre she knew less. She had only encountered him at the Frog Choir auditions, and she remembered he had done great, but they hadn't really interacted much. Scarlett started their interaction with a cheery greeting. Rose smiled back. With Scarlett's enthusiasm, they were bound to do well, right? "Hey," she replied. Rose's fellow redhead pounced on the envelope, tearing it open a little bit too aggressively for Rose's taste. Before Rose could really read the words, Scarlett exclaimed her answer. "The library makes sense," she said. "Let's do that, then."
The silver feline sniffed in a friendly way to Pierre's cat, then weaved around Rose's feet and Rose picked her up absentmindedly as Scarlett started talking about a team name. "I like the lion idea," Rose pitched in. "Something cool, like the... like the Lava Lions, I don't know." Rose's suggestion wasn't entirely serious. She looked around to see people leaving the room.
"Yeah, guys, we had better get going to the library," Rose said. Scarlett rushed towards the portrait hole, and then made a mad dash towards the library. "I- Scarlett!" Rose dropped Chaska, who landed with grace on her feet on the floor. She glanced at Katrina and Pierre apologetically and then chased after Scarlett. She wasn't just going to let Scarlett go off by herself in the castle for a group scavenger hunt! Chaska bounded after Rose.
They arrived at the library, and Rose stepped forward to the book, seeing the envelope poking out. At least she hoped that this was from the scavenger hunt. It was kind of obvious when they came in, and it was quite a big book, too. She panted a little, and then picked the book up, turning it over. Opening the book to the page about Veelas and picking up the envelope, she waited until they were all there and then slit the envelope with a little more dignity than Scarlett had. She then read the clue out loud. "Muggiest duels," she said. Her eyebrows furrowed. "What?" she said in confusion.
Rose's mind rushed around, thinking about if it could have anything to do with the book, with the "muggy" thing, or with the dueling club. She had a few more obvious answers, but none of them felt... right.
But this time Pierre took to figuring out the clue before Rose could. He said something about that maybe it could be stupid. Rose shook her head, looking at what he had written on the paper. She shook her head, her eyes widening a little. "Pierre- that- that's brilliant!" she exclaimed. "Muggle Studies must be the next place! C'mon, let's go!"
The lions took off towards the Muggle Studies classroom. She hadn't been in here before, but she thought Muggle Studies might be a cool class to take, but she wasn't old enough to take the class, so she hadn't really come in here before. They came into the classroom and spied the clue, Rose picking it up again. She read it out loud, and her brow furrowed.
It had said something about a seed, but the rest of the clue wasn't about herbs or anything, so Rose didn't think it was Herbology.
It sounded a lot like it had to do with a sport. Sports took either a lot of raw talent, a lot of hard work, but usually both. There were sport scouts, too. And there were seasons that people played different sports. Like how American football usually started in the fall and how the Quidditch season here at Hogwarts was during the school year. "Do you think it has something to do with a sport...?" Maybe it was on the grounds? People could play sports there.
Chaska, who had gotten bored with grooming her ears, stood up and tried to pounce on Figaro, trying to catch his tail with her paws. Think, Rose, think! The most popular sport here at Hogwarts was... Quidditch! "The Quidditch Pitch!" she exclaimed, a little loudly. "Uh- sorry. Does that make sense? Like, the sport references and..." Rose trailed off and waited a little bit, giving them time to respond. "Yeah. Anyway! Let's go!" she turned around and started going towards the Quidditch Pitch.
She was having fun with this Scavenger Hunt! She hoped that her team was doing alright, and that they at least weren't in last, though that was plenty possible since she was here to mess everything up. Chaska looked up from Figaro and raced after Rose, interested in the new game, and the next thing they were gonna do.
