Making some shadow
ReducioThe Shovel Revolution [errand]June, 15thSamantha had tough long and well about where she wanted to dig. After considering the grounds, campgrounds and the great lake she had finally decided that she wanted to do it at the great lake. There was a spot that she always liked to sit, to read or do some homework. She liked the view of the great lake that she would look at when she was done with her homework or just wanted a break.
The only problem was, was that there was almost no shadow. Overall Samantha liked being in the sun and disliked the shadow, but she knew if she would stay in the sun to long she would burn. The brunette had been sunburned multiple times over her first year, she would be to focused on her homework or reading and forget the time. When she would go back to the castle her whole face would be red.
The small girl was dragged a big shovel to her place. In her other had she had a smaller digging tool. She looked around, where did she want to dig a hole? She dropped the digging tools, so she could walk around easier. She walked away from the lake and turned around to see if she was happy with the place. Nope, she didn't like it. Maybe a bit more to the left, yes that was more like it. After walking around for 5 minutes she had found the place she wanted to have a plant. The girl would love it if the ground keeper would place a big tree there or a small tree that still had to grow. It would be fun seeing the tree grow over the years and maybe even be able to tell younger students that she planted that tree, well not planted, but something like that.
How big did a hole for a tree needed to be? Of course the young girl had done her research. It was depending on how big the tree would be, but an average size would be around 80 by 80 centimeters and it would have to be 50 cm deep.
She started by using the small shovel to get the size of the hole right. Making a plan was something that Samantha always did, she liked to know what she was suppose to do and in what order. She had already decided that she wanted to dig the hole the "muggle way". She didn't want to use her wand. It was way more fun to get dirty and do everything with human power.
Sam had been prepared, so she was wearing some old or ugly clothes. She wore a pink shirt, that wasn't old, but she just didn't like the color. She wore a pair of pants that were just a little bit to small. She had grown out of them since the start of the years, but she didn't want to trow them away, since it were her favorite jeans.
She started full of energy with the digging. She tried to put the shovel into the earth, but she wasn't strong enough to get it really deep. Remembering that her mother used to stand on the shovel to get it deeper into the grounds, she tried to do the same. She place her smal foot on the shovel and tried to push it into the ground. After she failed again she stared to jump on the shovel, which to Samantha's relief did work.
After digging for 20 minutes she wasn't even half way with the hole, but she was really tired. She decided to take a break from digging and treat herself with some water and some cookies she had taken with her. After staring over the water for 5 minutes she got back up again to start digging. She wasn't going to let the hole be to small for the tree.
after digging for more than an hours she looked at the finished product, the hole was so big she could fit in it. Not that that was so hard, since Samantha was one of the smallest students at Hogwarts. Next to the hole was a big pile of earth that came out of the hole. The young girl had left it there so that it was easier to fill up the hole after the tree or bush was planted. And she had also left the earth there, because she was way to tired to move it. She was really proud of her work. She could already image herself making homework under the new tree, at least she hoped there would come a tree.
She was happy she was done, she had learned that she should dig a hole this big ever again. She was broken, she was tired and wanted to sleep. She collected her stuff so she could place it back and so she finally could get back to the castle. When she walked away she looked back one more time smiling, she couldn't wat to see what kind of plant or tree was going to stand there after the summer.Word count:849
