The game was off to a good start. The three teams had been given their first clues and wasted no time in trying to decipher them. The second team was the first to draw some conclusions, heading swiftly from the common room to wind their way down, down, down to the dungeons below. Really, Evelynn could not have made the distance of travel much longer unless she'd set it at the lake.

Perhaps that was something to take into consideration next time. Thought hadn't really been placed into the order of the clues. She'd simply made them, put them into her hat and drawn them at random to create randomized paths for each of the teams. As her heart raced and feet padded to keep up with the group in order to keep tabs on them, she realized her folly. How in the world was she going to keep herself available to assist or intervene if need be for each of the groups if they were scattered all about the school?

Nevermind. It didn't matter now. She'd simply have to do her best.

She arrived just in time to see Group 2 as they arrived at the potions classroom, having correctly deduced the nature of their first clue that hinted at a few specific potions and the implements used to brew them. As their reward, there upon the door frame was pinned their next clue:

How does the game work?
We spent a lot of time to create individual paths for every team. The goal of every team is to reach the final location and the team that gets there first wins. But as simply looking who posts there first would hardly be fair, we have thought of another way to determine, which team was the quickest (I will come to that in a second). I will supply every team with one clue at a time. Once you solved it, I will give you the next. You might find that some are easier than others, but I have given some difficult clues to every team, I don't doubt that there will be struggles at a certain point. In that case, you may ask for hints. For the sake of fairness, the Slytherins will have to ask Evelynn, the Gryffindors have to ask Opeila.
We will post a new thread for every single clue. Once those threads are up, you will have to post 700 words- as a team, multiple people together or one single person, I don't care- that include the solution of the riddle. The solution of the riddle is not always a location. You'll need to tell us the solution to the riddle we gave you- just saying a location that could as well be a good guess is not enough.

How is the time calculated?
We only count the time that you guys needed to figure out the riddle. The time between you solving one clue and us giving you the next, as well as the time between you asking for a hint and us replying will be substracted. Differences in timezones or a busy afternoon of a mod are not supposed to be the reason for a team to lose. But to motivate you to try your best with the clue before you ask us for hints, there is a penalty. For every hint you ask for, there will be 12 hours added to your total time as well as another 200 words to write after we give you the hint.

Also please write into every post what team you are in and your wordcount. Otherwise the calculations may take longer than necessary.

Enjoy and good luck!

Alan would rush down the stair case a bit faster than he probably should have, as his feet would follow the flight of stairs, he could have tripped and hurt himself. But the energy just was there and the excitement to find the next clue edged him on to hurry up. He would wonder how far the other teams had gotten, if they had done their first clue yet or whether they were already ahead of their team. Clearly Alan wanted to win this, so he had high hopes in his own team sharing the amount of energy that he had to offer. Tiger seemed a little shaken by the running, so Alan would place the cat down as soon as they head reached the potions classroom. With both of his hands now free, the fourth year had all the possibilities to just reach up and take the next of the clues off the door frame.

As he removed the pin and unfolded the piece of parchment, he would let his eyes fly over the text before handing it off to the rest of his team, for them to pass the note along. "I am pretty sure that it is transfiguration, what do you guys think?" he inquired. It just had to be, after all it spoke about rearranging matter and changing things up. Appearance can be deceiving, Alan knew this exactly, he experienced it on a daily basis. He shook his head, forcing himself to focus on the matter at hand, as he nodded lightly. "We should head for the transfiguration classroom next, it talks about matter and deceitful appearance," he urged the team on, hoping for them to make their decision quick. It seemed like such an easy riddle but perhaps that was because it hit so close to home for Alan. As a metamorphmagus a lot of his life was based on transfiguration or rather transformation, which was practically a branch of it. This riddle alone mentioned at least three branches of transfiguration magic that he could spot, so his guess was pretty strong.

"Let's go, before the others get ahead of us," he said with a nod to the stair. Considering that their next stop was on the fifth floor, they had a lot of stairs to get over, so they should better get a head start if they did not want to get behind. Alan was confident that he would be fine, he was practically running around all day long, but he hoped that the girls of his team could also keep up with him.

Good, they agreed, that worked out well. "Go,go,go" Haley then laughed and ran towards Potion's classroom. The adrenaline was now being expelled from her body and the desire to win was becoming more present. She switched into her game mode with only her goal in mind. She just hoped there would be no trouble with the team, after all they didn't know each other and in the worst case they didn't get along at all. The good thing, however, was that it seemed her team partner was probably on the same train as her. The two ran down the many stairs to the basement. Haley tried to keep up with his pace, but he was fast and as he set his cat down on the floor, Haley ran past them smiling to gain some distance, which he no doubt quickly made up.

A little out of breath, the two finally arrived at the door. But there was no time to pause, there was still too much ahead of them and the competition was fierce. Haley took a breath while Alan took the next clue and read through it.

Haley accepted the parchment and read the lines at a quick pace while listening to Alan. "No question, it has to be Transfiguration." She agreed with him, not needing to discuss her choices. She now looked up from the parchment and nodded at him.

It was now back to the fifth floor for the two of them, and as quickly as possible. Haley took a deep breath and prepared herself inwardly for the next sprint. Time for all that training to finally pay off.

"Okay, let's go win this thing." Haley chuckled and stuffed the paper into her back trousers pocket while her legs started moving. She didn't want to give away the chance to win and was ready to run back up the many stairs of the castle.

It seemed like things were going quite well for the two, or rather three, member team. Her eyes fell on the cat that was strolling through the castle with them. She was sure that they were in front. At least she hoped so.
