Animagus Applications and Updates
Please post Animagus Applications as well as Animagus Stat Updates in this thread.
Note: If you apply for this during summer months and want to say you learned the ability over summer, please reach out to one of the Hogwarts mentors listed below (Headmaster, Deputy Headmaster, Heads of House, Transfig professor) to confirm they would be willing to guide you over the summer rather than during the school year.
REQUIREMENTS

You have to be a 5th Year student or above to apply for Animagus.

At this time, iNPCs cannot apply to gain this ability. This might be changed in the future, once we have a stable population of 5th Year students and can assess the scope of the moderation effort that handling these applications will put on the staff team.

ABOUT YOUR APPLICATION

Your Animagus has be an animal (humans are considered not to be animals here). When you choose your animal, be aware that your Animagus form cannot be an extinct animal that has become extinct before the 20th century (1900s), nor can it be a rumored to be real animal (cryptozoology).

It is usual but not necessary for an Animagus to take on the appearance of an animal commonly found in the wizard's native lands. As a level of kinship is required and there is purpose and thought involved in the ritual, it would not be possible for a wizard to become an Animagus of an animal that they do not know of, or that is from a species that has become extinct.

Take this into account when writing your application. For example, a person living around the Sahara desert turning into a polar bear would be extremely uncommon, and you would have to reflect in your application why exactly this animal and no other fits your character.

Our moderators may tell you to edit or re-write your application, or (temporarily) deny it if it does not conform to the rules outlined here or the general rules that apply to our site.

BEFORE YOU APPLY

Please read the details of our Animagus lore, that can be found here. Your application needs to be in accord with the transformation process outlined there. There is also an FAQ section and details on the building of your animagus.

APPLICATION FORM
School Year:
Link to your encyclopedia thread:

Roleplay: 500 words (maximum 2K words) of your character getting their form, about the creature, perhaps why it suits them, being taught/mastering the Animagus transformation process. Please include a word count. This can be completed in-character first or second person or from a third-person perspective. Your application cannot be out of character (OOC).

Ministry of Magic File:
1. Wizard Name: This is your character's full name.
2. Animal: You need to name the animal you are applying for, also give its species if possible. Please be specific! For example, if you want your Animagus to be a giraffe, tell us which one (there are 8 subspecies of giraffes). A Great Dane is a dog, but so is a Beagle, so tell us which animal exactly your animagus is.
3. Description: This would be a written description of your Animagus' appearance. You can supply us with a picture also but please remember this would be what your Animagus will continue to look like. So if it has blue eyes, it will continue to have blue eyes. Please make sure that the appearance you describe makes sense for the animal.
4. Distinctive Marking: Every animagus has a distinctive marking on them that makes them unique. This must be clearly described and be something that is visible (for instance a mark inside your ear or on your tongue would not be counted). This is in addition to injuries (no disabilities are repaired by becoming an Animagus), so an animagus that has suffered limb loss or scaring for instance would have a missing limb as well as this distinctive marking.
BUILDING ANIMAGUS FORM
Animagi are wizards who have learned how to turn themselves into (1) animal. This requires an incredible amount of training.

A roleplay is required for this ability where the player describes completing the Animagus ritual.
- Placing a mandrake leaf in their mouth from full moon to full moon.
-At the end of the lunar cycle, the wizard spits the leaf into a phial within view of the moon's rays. If it is cloudy or raining, they would have to start over.
-To the moon-struck phial, the wizard adds one of their own hairs, a silvered teaspoon of dew that has not been touched by sunlight or human feet for seven days and the chrysalis of a death's-head hawkmoth. [Remember to mention obtaining these items.]
-The potion is then stored in a dark, quiet place where it is to remain undisturbed until an electrical storm happens.
-Until an electrical storm happens the animagus hopeful would repeat the incantation: 'Amato Amino Animato Animagus.' every dawn and every sunset with the tip of their wand placed over their heart.
-Describe an electrical storm during which the wizard or witch moves to a secluded space, recites the incantation one last time and then drinks the potion.
The roleplay involving the above would be done under the mentorship/tutorship of the Transfiguration Professor, Head of House, the Deputy Headmaster or Headmaster with permission for light godmodding of their respective character.

To clarify: light god-modding is stating that they are overseeing the process, please do not roleplay statements by them or very specific interactions.

The usual 500 word count is required for this, but there is some additional paperwork that will be discussed below.

Hogwarts does not teach students the process of becoming an Animagi until the 5th year.

Upon completing the process (becoming approved for this ability), the user would be registered with the Ministry of Magic. The user must write the following in their application which will be known by the Ministry and be something in their in-character records. In addition, this information is relevant to moderators and may be used in event moderation.
1. Wizard Name: This is your character's full name with a link to your encyclopedia profile.
2. Animal: This does not need to be the same as your character's patronus. Please be as specific as possible, Index may supply you with specific options if you were too vague.
3. Distinctive Marking: Every animagus has a distinctive marking on them that makes them unique. This is in addition to injuries (no disabilities are repaired by becoming an Animagus), so an animagus that has suffered limb loss or scaring for instance would have a missing limb as well as this distinctive marking.
Building my Animagus Form
In your animagus form you are not able to cast magic (even with wandless magic) but you can receive (not send) messages through your binding mark. You do not have access to any of your abilities or passives while in your Animagus form. You maintain your awareness and your human mind in your Animagi form.

Players create their Animagus using a Point System. They get 10 points.

Size (Pick 1)
Size - yes, size matters. Users can be either very small, small, medium, large, or huge.
  • Very Small: Costs 2 points. This is your rat/mouse or smaller sized Animagi.
    • You can enter threads hidden from other users. There is a 25% chance of this being successful. This can be countered by those with Sixth Sense where if you enter the topic successfully hidden, they get a roll to see if they detect you anyways. You would no longer be considered hidden if you attempt to communicate or you interact with the environment in any ways (such as trying to steal something or hit someone). On any stealth checks, you have a +2 to your stealth.
    • 25% chance to find hidden passageways by observing. Able to wiggle under a door frame to enter a locked room. This does not give you access to areas of the forum that you do not have access to.
  • Small: Cost 1 point. This is a cat or dog-sized or smaller Animagi.
  • Medium: Cost 0 points. This is a human-sized Animagi.
  • Large: Cost 1 point. This is a creature that is larger than a human such as ligers (lion/tiger), wood bison or elephant seals.
    • They take 25% less damage from attacks, they are quite durable.
  • Huge: Cost 2 points. This would be very large creatures such as horses.
    • It can be ridden (as a mount) by 1 medium sized (this would include non-giants) user.
Skills (Pick as many as you have points for)
  • Flight - Costs 2 points. Creatures that can fly are able to reach things from high places. Observation: 25% chance of seeing something out of the ordinary automatically.
  • Aquatic - Cost 1 point. Able to dive underwater and explore areas such as the great lake.
Grants them a unique perspective on an environment where they might be able to find (observation) objects that others cannot find.
  • Claws - Cost 1 point. The Animagus has claws that can be used to defend themselves. Two attacks at 15*strength done at +0 accuracy.
  • Claws 2 - Cost 2 points. An enhanced version of claws where the animagus has larger claws that can be used to defend themselves. Two attacks at 15*strength initial damage plus 10% of the total damage every round until the end of the thread or the the target is healed done at +0 accuracy.
  • Bite - Costs 1 point. The creature has some teeth or a beak that punctures the skin. 25*strength initial damage with a +2 critical range (18-20 is a critical).
  • Bite with Venom 1 - Costs 2 points. This creature would bite and with their bite inject a venom into the flesh of a target on a successful bite. 25*strength initial damage with a +2 critical range, target is also injected with a poison that causes them to suffer -1 accuracy for the duration of the thread unless healed. The poison can stack up to three times.
  • Bite with Venom 2 - Costs 2 points. This creature would bite and with their bite inject a venom into the flesh of a target on a successful bite. 25*strength initial damage with a +2 critical range, target is also injected with a poison that causes them to suffer -1 evasion for the duration of the thread unless healed. The poison can stack up to three times.
  • Bite with Powerful Venom - Costs 3 points. This creature would bite and with their bite inject a venom into the flesh of a target on a successful bite. 25*strength initial damage with a +2 critical range, target is also injected with a poison that causes them to suffer -1 evasion and accuracy for the duration of the thread unless healed. The poison can stack up to three times.
Stats (Where the rest of those points go).
Each point is worth 5 in a given stat. So if after you have considered all of the skills and modifications your Animagus form might have, what points you have remaining would be placed in your stats. You have five stats in your Animagus form: Wisdom, Stamina, Strength, Accuracy and Evasion. You can split up that single point (5 stats) to +3 stamina and +2 evasion for instance.

You cannot be negative in a stat.
Your Stamina will be at least 1 health point if you place 0 in stamina.
The caps for any one stat are 25.

Example--

Lear the Leopard
Size: Large (1 point)
Modifiers: Claws 2 (2 points)
Bite (Costs 1 point)
Stats:
Stamina 5 (1 point)
Wisdom 0 (0 points)
Strength 10 (2 points)
Accuracy 5 (1 points)
Evasion 10 (2 points)

Points Spent: 10

The important thing to note here is that you should be trying to make it make sense for your character. For instance a Leopard cannot fly, you will be rejected if you try to say that they can. Similarly if you are a cockroach and you have 25 strength, it makes no sense. Pick stats that make sense for the character that you are creating (or be prepared to explain how and we will expect more than "my cockroach works out").
FAQ

What limitations are there to Animagus animals?

Yes, we are aware that it is mentioned in the Potter online resources that it is possible that someone's animagus form is to be a magical creature. Not a single canon character has a magical creature as their animagus form, so no your animagus form cannot be a magical creature such as a thestrial, dragon or phoenix.

In addition, the creature cannot be an extinct animal that has been extinct before the 1900s) or a rumored to be real animal (cryptozoology). It has to be an animal that your character is familiar with.

The animal must also be 1000 pounds or 450 kilograms or less, but over 1 ounce or 0.03 kilograms. The Index Team reserves the right to on a case-by-case basis may elect to approve creatures that weigh more than 1000 pounds (450 kilograms) but these cases will be unusual and rare and need to be explained in terms of why a smaller option is not possible. For those that consider the option of being a "baby rhino" and then growing past the weight limits, the Index Team reserves the right to make you change your animagus type.

In short: non-magical, real animals that are not extinct before the 1900s.

Can I change my Animagus Animal?

No.

Can my Animagus be the same as my Patronus?

If your patronus fits within the criteria for Animagus.

Can I speak to animals?

You can speak to the same creature as you have become, so if you become a cat you can speak to other cats. These animals follow NPC rules and cannot provide extra information. Pets, if you become the same animal as a pet we have at Hogwarts, they can be roleplayed by their owner and share information at the discretion of the pet as roleplayed by their owner.

Do I gain the abilities of the animal?

Yes, this is one of the reasons why you cannot be a dragon -- you are not being given an additional fire resource or the ability to spontaneously turn invisible as a demiguise. As an eagle, you can fly. As a roach, you are small and can travel through small cracks in the walls and move to other parts of the castle. As for turning into a lion or a bear, your unarmed attacks would be with claws. This does not give you 30 strength for causing damage.

However, we have a build system for building your animagi. This is a part of your creation process and gives you statistical representation of your animagus form. [Refer to the above application for more details.]

Through my Animagus Form Can I Access additional parts of Hogwarts?

No, your accesses remain unchanged.

Can I use my Animagi form to stealth?

It can be used not to necessarily stealth into a thread but there is a cat (or whatever animal you are) present in the thread. The players in that thread may recognize you if they are aware of your animagus status and/or know of your distinctive markings. Be careful, if you are a spider for instance you might get squished!

What if I am a fish?
If you are a fish animagus and you transform outside of the water, you will simply be rendered unconscious immediately and revert to your natural, human form. So you can be a fish or an aquatic animagus, but you will have some viable limitations.

Does the transformation hurt?
No, it is entirely painless.

Are there other benefits?

Being small might get you out of IC sticky situations for instance and having flight without a broom might be an amazing experience. As for other facets such as claws, talons, bites, etc. That is up to moderator discretion during events or the consent of your roleplay partners and what you agree upon.

This ability is treated like any other ability. It is approved by the INDEX Team and added to the trunk. Only the additional information (the form mentioned above) is also added to the trunk (the animal and special marking).

If I Become an Animagus Will it Heal Me?

As mentioned in the "distinctive marking" section of the application, your distinctive mark is in addition to any scars, limb losses or injuries your character has permanently suffered. Being an animal won't cure a mental disability (your mind is still your own), blindness, or deafness.

Can I be an Illegal or Unregistered Animagus?

No.

What Happens if I Pass out or Rendered Unconscious While in Animagus Form?

You revert back to your natural, human form. However, you can sleep in your animagus form.

Will I get Extra Stat Points as I Move Up In Years for my Animagus Form?

Yes, at year 5 you have 10 points to use for stats or abilities. Every year until adulthood you gain 1 point that can be applied to your stats only (not abilities). So year 6 you have an additional point (worth 5 stats) that you can apply. You can split up that single point (5 stats) to +3 stamina and +2 evasion for instance. This maxes out at adulthood (13 points).

When the animagus program was available, Marcia was one of the first to enter mentorship and was taught by the Gryffindor Head of House. Over a few weeks and under the stern supervision of Professor Pendrast, Marcia started her training to become an animagus.
Before she could even begin to picture the animal she might turn into, she had to learn the steps necessary to complete the process by heart; and they were many. Her task was even harder to accomplish since Professor Pendrast has made clear, that it was Marcia's responsibility to acquire all the ingredients she would have to use in the potion. Or so she thought. She would later learn that if she just had asked, Professor Pendrast would have been happy to provide her with the ingredients. But Marcia never questioned her involvemet, which would send her on a journey.

Only the mandrake leaf was given to her. At the start, Marcia thought that the first step – caring and keeping a mandrake leaf in her mouth for an entire moon cycle – would be the hardest. How naïve she was. Sure, it was not pleasant to constantly have a leaf on her tongue and to make sure, that she would not accidentally swallow it. The week before the start of her turning process, she practises how she should sleep, what materials she could use to keep her mouth shut during the night and how to avoid losing the leaf. She found that sleeping on the belly would help her not to swallow too much, and even though she secretly wanted to cast a sticky charm every evening before bedtime, she finished her month with the leaf on her tongue.

The hardest part, as she had to learn, was to get the chrysalis. During her lunar cycle month, she tried to collect the necessary ingredients for her soon to be brewed potion. At first, she thought that she surely would get a chrysalis in one of the shops at Hogsmeade. Either it was due to some bad luck or fate just wouldn't have it, that no shop had even one specimen neither alive nor dead. When her lunar cycle neared its end, she started to worry that she would not be able to bring the ingredients, which meant that she would have to start over.

In her panic, she wrote to her parents, if they somehow can find a chrysalis. But once again, Marcia's hope was crushed. She started to dream about moth's, she hallucinated that everywhere were moths, but just not the ones she needed. There was only one last straw: she had to try to find one in the wild, which obviously was equal to finding a needle in a haystack. It was three days before the next full moon, and Marcia was out on the edges of the Forbidden Forest with Alma. They both searched on the ground and the trees when Marcia finally spotted what appeared to be a chrysalis of death's-head hawk moth. She nearly broke out in tears but could get a hold on herself when Alma reminded her to keep it together, otherwise, she risked losing the mandrake leaf.

Getting the silverware was a piece of cake, compared to the chrysalis. A walk into the kitchen and a nice chat with the house-elves had been enough. She had kept the spoon wrapped in a towel in her dresser for longer than a week.

When she could present the ingredients she felt proud. Carefully and once again under the watchful eyes of Professor Pendrast, she prepared the potion with the leaf, her hair, the spoon and the cursed chrysalis of a moth. She sometimes still hallucinated, waking up from a dream that she in fact never found a chrysalis. Thankfully, those were just nightmares.

From that point, Professor Pendrast stored the potion away and all she had to do was wait for the electrical storm. During her wait, Marcia meticulously repeated the incantation "Amato Amino Animato Animagus" while tipping her heart with the wand every dawn.

It took almost five months until a storm finally started to roar above Hogwarts. Over her, countless lightning bolts dashed through the clouds. She stood at the entrance of the castle, Professor Pendrast at her site. One last time she repeated the incantation, that she knew by heart and drank her ripe potion.

The thunder made her flinch. Almost immediately she felt dizzy and Professor Pendrast was quick to take away the cup she was holding. The world around her grew, everything seemed bigger and bigger, and she felt weak. Strong winds were tugging on her clothes. No, they were tugging at her – wings!

Two big hands caged her and the world that has become big, also went dark. She was small, she could fly, and the strong winds from the storm were too much for her. Wouldn't it have been for Professor Pendrast, who caught her in the air, she would have been taken away by the storm.

This cursed moth.

In the aftermath, she wondered why her animal form had to be a moth. Sure, she was proud to have mastered the animagus transformation with the held of the Gryffindor Head of House, but she couldn't help but feel sad. She had wished to be a fox or a rabbit. Something cute and fluffy.

One of the first things she had been told way back at the start was, that she could not force any animal form and that her animagus would turn into a true reflection of herself.

She asked herself: Did she had a desire to fly? Yes, bloody yes. She loved to fly on her broom, the faster the better. And she had to admit after Alma had pointed it out, that the moth form was both cute and fluffy.
Maybe her fiction on the chrysalis during her lunar cycle had done the rest and her subconscious had made her turn into a moth.
It did fit after all. Her desire to fly was rooted deep within her, and after looking at more pictures, she fell in love with her moth form, who was puffy, fluffy and elegant. No, a fox wouldn't have been her. It's strange how magic would manifest in the most perfect ways, sometimes.

2. Animal: Saturnia pavonia, female, native in all of Europa including all of UK

3. Description: As a female Saturnia pavonia, the animal has a range of color from white to dark grey with thin streaks of brown and with a span of about 70mm. When Marcia ages, the moth will grow to a total span of 88mm. There are four eye spots total, with one on each wing part.
The antennas are large and fluffy, as is the whole moth.

I sadly found no information about how much it weighs. However, a small simple moth weighs about 30gr. This is a large specimen, so I guess it should weigh at least 100-150gr.

4. Distinctive Marking: Her right upper wing has a thin brownish horizontal line that parts the natural pattern like a rift. During her first year in Hogwarts, she had an encounter with a shady boy, who attacked her and three others. While fighting him, she got injured at her neck and shoulder by a slashing hex. This scar resurfaces as a brown line on the right wing.

He had known since he was a kid that he wanted to be an Animagus, but it wasn't until this year that his enthusiasm was reignited. After all, he had been a creature of nature for so long, investigating the fens of his childhood home like a swamp beast, he could only begin to imagine all the doors of exploration that would be open to him if he was an actual animal. Like, climbing trees or burrowing into the ground! Not only that, but the components he'd be able to find... there was no hesitation once summer vacation started. He could be spending the time to do medical research, but instead he was going to take a spirit journey to become an animal on command. Time well spent, obviously.

Making potions was already something he was well trained in, and eternally meticulous about. He went over the requirements a few times with his mother once he returned to his home in Wicken. She was naturally fascinated, even acquiring the death's-head hawkmoth chrysalis for him from her own collection. Kelsey himself didn't have any problem getting a mandrake leaf from the school's mandrakes, and with that all he needed was the phial he was going to put the potion into and a silver spoon with which to collect some dew. He kissed him mum on the cheek, taking a bag of supplies to go disappear into the fens for most of July. No reason to open his mouth if he was out camping, and besides, he was an animal now, time to return to the wild!

July 24th was the day he would start, having set himself up quietly in the midst of the chittering of other curious fenland creatures. It was the Buck Moon, a name given to it because of the new antlers that would be growing on deer around that time of year. To Kelsey, it symbolized the new double life he would be leading with a new, mysterious body. Looking up at the full moon overhead, he scream one last time before placing the leaf on his tongue and closing his mouth. There it would stay until August 22nd.

Until then, he had nothing but time. He'd relax mostly, the greatest threat being the heat. He'd keep his head cool, his lips chapped, and make sure to avoid the dangers of heat exhaustion and heat rash. He wondered idly if his new form would be more heat resistant, be able to swim, or all the millions of new solutions he would have to problems. Kelsey was a practical person, he would be certain to find out exactly how he could change his life to fit the new world of experiences that would become available to him. A quiet camping trip away from society wasn't complete of course without a guitar, and during the nights he would strum unintelligibly as he looked up at the bright stars above him. Life is amazing!

As the day grew nearer, the silver spoon was employed for the trickiest of the ingredients. Eight days before the full moon (just to be safe), Kelsey went to his designated 'no treading' zone that was certain to have seen no human foot for (possibly) years. He'd army crawl around in the dark hours of morning, gently collecting dew into the spoon and keeping it balanced in his hand. It was kind of fun, actually. This was his favorite part of potion making. The spoon got its own jerry-rigged contraption that he had built in his tent that kept the dew in the spoon and away from the sunlight. It was hard not to be overwhelmed with excitement at that point. If it was too cloudy, it wouldn't work. If the dew evaporated in the heat or caught any sunlight, it wouldn't work. Heck, if he spit the mandrake leaf out wrong and it landed on the ground it wouldn't work! That's potions, baby.

As it would happen, Kelsey's history of potioneering excellence wouldn't catch a hitch that day. Bathing in the moonlight, he spit the leaf into the vial, added the chrysalis, the spooned dew, and a single hair off his grimy head. That was it. He had a potion bag he carried with him on medical trips, useful but unneeded until then for his current one. It would be a nice dark place to keep the potion until he needed it again. He'd pack the rest of his things and head back home, only a tiny bit red and a lot of bit smelly. He would have plenty to catch up with at that point, so he'd be kept busy until the day he would be able to finish the process.

It wouldn't take long, electrical storms happened quite frequently in the summer, so it hadn't even been a week of pointing his wand and repeating the incantation, 'Amato Amino Animato Animagus' even sunrise and sunset before the rumbling of thunder excited the nurse into action. He took his bag, jumped around the kitchen with his mother like a madman, and fled back into the fens in the heavy rain. As the lightning cracked around him, he took the potion from its hiding place and repeated the words one final time, chugging the liquid with gusto. After that, things changed forever, and the world got a lot bigger.

2. Animal: The least weasel (Mustela nivalis), little weasel, common weasel, or simply weasel in the UK and much of the world, is the smallest member of the genus Mustela, family Mustelidae and order Carnivora. It is native to Eurasia, North America and North Africa. The common least weasel is a medium-sized subspecies with a tail of moderate length, constituting about 20–21% of its body length. In its summer fur, the upper body is a dark brownish or chestnut colour, while its winter fur is pure white. It is probably a transitional form between the small pygmaea and the large vulgaris. (This is mostly word-for-word from Wikipedia)
3. Description: 140 mm in length, 30 mm tail length, with dark chestnut fur and a white underbelly. Fur turns all white in winter conditions. Little legs, small ears, short dense fur, and beady eyes. The line between the brown and white fur is mostly straight. Face/ snout is mostly brown.
Image

4. Distinctive Marking: Least weasels have a dark brown/ black nose, but Kelsey's nose when transformed is decidedly pink. Albino weasels can have pink noses, but Kelsey would not have the red eyes of an albino, so even when white he would be distinguishable from a 'normal' weasel.

Stamina 3
Wisdom 10
Strength 5
Accuracy 10
Evasion 17

4. Total points used: 13 for adult.
5. Explanation: Stamina and strength may seem a bit high for a little rodent, but I'm using the knowledge that weasels are tenacious attackers and will combat creatures much bigger than them with surprising ferocity. They been known to be able to kill rabbits, cobras, and birds among other things. A 5 in str would make his bite do 125 damage on a non-crit.

A month had come and gone in the blink of an eye. Silent for the entire time, Atticus underwent the procedure as prescribed by the MACUSA agent in charge of helping him make his transition. He had finally learned how to keep his damned mouth shut. Holding the mandrake leaf in his mouth for thirty days, Atticus was no longer a stranger to patience. The process was one he had volunteered for. Suffice it to say that an intense amount of time had been poured into this ritual and so it would track that a lot of anxiety now rested upon Wade's shoulders. Opening the envelope on the table in front of him, Atticus spilled the contents out gently. All of his focus was directed at making double sure none of the items were missing, damaged, or otherwise tainted by ineptitude. Twice before the pair had attempted this ritual and twice before they had failed for one reason or another. Tonight, not a cloud was in sight and that got them both to thinking it would work. As luck would have it, their hopes weren’t for naught.

Gently taking the phial and placing it within the full brunt of the moon's pale light, Atticus spewed the leaf into it unceremoniously. He had done this enough times now to forget about the ceremony and had begun treating it like science. The acrid aftertaste left his mouth alkaline. Taking the teaspoon of silvered dew in his hand, Atticus carefully set it to one side. Next, he retrieved the death's-head hawkmoth chrysalis from its carefully wrapped tissue paper coating. The first time he had been tasked with collecting one of these, he had travelled all the way to Asia. The second and third time he'd gone to Africa and Europe respectively. Travel was much easier with a portkey than it was on the U.S. interstate. Especially speaking as a New Yorker. Having spit the sweet, acidic leaf out into the phial, the young hit wizard then added the other ingredients in the correct order. All without hesitation. There was a reason he'd been hand-picked for this transition and it wasn't because he was prone to making mistakes!

Supervising the whole affair, lest he make some terrible mistake that turned him into something more grisly, the MACUSA agent mentoring him motioned towards the heavy steamer trunk in the back of the room. Putting the potion away in the secure trunk, Atticus and the agent both knew it would remain in the attic of this government paid apartment until the time was right. They were sealing it until the weather took a turn for the worse. Atticus and his supervisor would look to one another and nod in agreement. Seven days and nights would pass between the storing of the potion and an electrical storm. At each dawn and at each sunset Atticus repeated the incantation he now knew by memory. "Amato Amino Animato Animagus." After each incantation, the wizard would place the tip of his wand to his chest, pointing to where his heart was. After each incantation, his heart would race with the thrill and excitement of what he was doing. He was pioneering his path towards the future. A future that many of the other wizards who came after him would one day embrace. It was his legacy, sort of.

On the night of the storm, a blustering gale accompanied by the heat of midsummer, thunder would emerge with the familiar crackle of a streaking light. A storm that caused brownouts was no small event, but it was atypically fortuitous. At the start of this tempest, every hair on Atticus Wade's body stood on end. Tingling with anticipation, his hands and feet would become uncharacteristically frantic on his way home. This was it, he just knew it. Rushing, Atticus would climb into the spacious attic where he had stored the trunk. His supervisor was not far behind, arriving a few moments later. Safe in the seclusion of his abode, Atticus retrieved the key from its hiding place and with much trepidation he opened the trunk revealing the final results of his painstaking labor in the process. The Animagus Potion. Pulling a nearby chair over to where he stood, his guest locked the door to the attic at the same time. Atticus recited the incantation one final time. He was unsure of exactly what was going to happen. "Amato Amino Animato Animagus" he chanted, all before removing the stopper from the phial. He then drank the potion down in one looooong gulp.

What happened next was considered a resounding success by many. A fruitful experiment after several long and arduous months of failed experimentation after failed trial applicant. They had finally done it. He had finally done it! Together with some of MACUSA's most brilliant minds, Atticus Wade had become an Animagus. More specifically, an adorable Liver Border Collie. Some say that the research one puts into the process of becoming an Animagus prepares them for the form that they will end up taking. Others say that the essence of the wizard takes the form of the animal. For Atticus, it took the strength to survive when the world was out to get him and the tenacity not to give into despair. That. and the thrill of a good chase.

The Animagus transformation was something that fascinated Zahid from the moment he first heard about it, unlike the Patronus Charm. It had not necessarily been something he wanted to learn personally and his school did not teach the skill either; but the concept fascinated him. Every child fantasised about being some sort of animal at some point whether out of pure curiosity or because they envied a skill they had or because it would be amazing to be able to laze around that much.

Zahid was no different. But alas, it was not something that was taught at this tiny school nor was Benghazi the best location geographically for it, given its climate. Additionally, to his knowledge, none of his teachers had had the skill themselves and it was not something one should attempt on their own.

Once he started university he was simply too busy to bother with it - besides, the skill would not exactly be useful in the middle of (Muggle) Benghazi. If he transformed into a pet animal maybe he could've blended in but even that wasn't a guarantee. Let alone the fact that you had no control over your animagus form. It may have been unlikely but what if he had transformed into a blue whale or an elephant? (And yes, he was aware that that train of thought was basically him placating himself. Had he been more intent on obtaining the skill, that would have been a very cold comfort indeed. But Zahid had never been someone that reached for the stars.)
And thus it was relegated to a place of low or non-existent priority and he more or less forgot about it for a time.

It was only years later, on his travels, that he was reminded of it as he met a couple of Animagi in Asia. It made him reconsider acquiring the ability himself. After all, with no set obligations currently, he had all the time in the world to dedicate to the endeavour. However, it meant that he would have to return to so-called civilisation to visit an apothecary, and he was in the middle of nowhere at the time. But he also did not want to cut that particular trip short, so his first attempt would’ve already been delayed another three weeks but he missed the full moon by two days.

On the plus side that left him with a lot of time to locate all the necessary ingredients – or where to acquire them. The Mandrake leaf he bought in an apothecary in Hanoi but he would’ve had to order the chrysalis and pay for it upfront and a wait-time of up to 16 days, so he decided to buy that on his next stop. The phial he already had. (Potions may not be one of his strengths (he was adequate at best), but even he carried the bare basics in case of emergency – or to brew the Animagus potion as the case may be.) A silvered tea spoon was easy to come by as well. Were he still back in home in Benghazi he would have already had one, too, but they weren’t exactly a rare commodity and could be bought in both the Muggle and Magical worlds. As it was, he managed to acquire a death’s-head moth’s chrysalis in Singapore.

It took several attempts and over a year until circumstances aligned. He had gotten unlucky with the weather a few times and while he found keeping the leaf in his mouth, although an hassle, easier than he thought it would be, on his third try he learned that it was not conducive to administering CPR.

But eventually, circumstances did align.

Coincidentally, it happened while he was visiting his two friends [Antonia & Constanza] in Italy. The dew was surprisingly easy to acquire from one of the many abandoned churches that could be found in Italy. The timing was fortuitous in two aspects: for one, he had a ready place to store the phial properly and two, there was no need to go looking for someone to oversee the eventual transformation attempt.

It had been nice to stay in one place for so long. The two months it took between when he arrived and when the first electrical storm hit after he finished the potion was probably the longest he spent in one place since he had left Libya.

On the full moon, he took all his other ingredients to the abandoned church they’d scouted out, and it was on the church’s front steps that he spat the leaf into the phial, before entering the building to add the rest.

Saying Amato Amino Animato Animaguswith the tip of his wand over his heart twice every day at dawn and sunset reminded him of religious practices which he found curious. It felt weirdly like praying. But it was an easy enough routine to keep.

The day of the electrical storm they had intended to go to the opera, but instead they stayed at home so he could transform in their warded backyard. He spoke the incantation once more and drank the potion. The odd taste was the last thing he noted before the world changed.

It was strange to find his friends coo-ing over his form, even if it took his transformed self a moment to realize what the weird behaviour they were sporting and the accompanying noise they were making actually was.

1. Wizard Name: Zahid al-Banghazi ibn Masoud
2. Animal: Caracal (Caracal caracal (nubicus))
3. Description: With a shoulder height of 48cm (18.9in), a head-to-body length of 104cm (41in), weighing around 15kg (33lb) and a tail length of 32cm (12.4in) Zahid’s Animagus form was on the larger end of the spectrum for Caracals. His coat is a sandy golden colour, although the underbelly part is of a slightly lighter colour than the main part of the coat. He has the black facial markings typical of a Caracal.

4. Distinctive Marking: Instead of the usual two parallel-ish black lines in the fur above a caracal’s eyes, Zahid’s forehead lines are connected and form a crescent shape. [The base is located at the between and slightly above his upper eyelids, with the crescent’s ‘horns’ facing upwards and slightly curled inward so it is distinct from a straight U or horseshoe form.]

5. Explanation: While they seem to mostly inflict wounds by biting, Caracals can climb trees with their sharp claws. They can also catch (low flying) birds out of the air by jumping without it being a running jump. They are excellent hunters known for their speed & agility as well as being quite strong. Their size (height) can be compared to a Border Collie.

Summer of 2015 - The Family

Ami was accustomed to her mother dragging her on trip after trip around the world, visiting the most exotic of countries year after year during her summer vacation. It was a luxury and a privilege she knew that she was incredibly lucky to have, but some part of her always hated her mother for it. She had never gotten to spend her summers lazing away, skating at the park with her friends or just growing up as a kid. It was always another airplane, another airport security to get through, another country where she didn't speak the language with the parent she didn't see for 9 months out of the year. Even at the ripe age of 9, Ami knew that there was something distinctly uncomfortable about the way her mother seemed to keep bouncing from country to country as her way of bonding with her only daughter.

This time, however, was different, because her father would accompany them for once. Plus, they were going to visit their distant relatives in Italy through Ami's father's side, which meant Ami would figure out how on earth a Greek-ish last name ended up belonging to a clan of redheads in America. Her mother had promised her seas of aquamarine and enough pasta to give you heart problems for the rest of your life, and her father had promised her soccer with the locals and cobblestone streets that would give her a new skateboarding challenge. But much to their surprise, what truly captured their little girl's attention was a giant brown bear.

Ami's Italian relatives were remarkably boring- at least, to the 9-year-old. After all, she spoke very little Italian, and what she could understand was because of the cognates between it and Spanish. She spent most of her time on her phone or skateboarding with her earbuds in, largely ignoring her extended family and being a terrible guest. But when the Procoppios decided to take a trip to the Abruzzo, Lazio, and Molise National Park, Ami actually cleaned up her act and decided to play nice. The hiking trails were some of the most beautiful she'd ever seen, and the wildlife was fascinating to the at-the-time aspiring veterinarian. What she remembered to this day, however, was the Procoppio clan's encounter with a Marsican brown bear.

They were almost completely unaware of it. Lucas had been telling a very animated story about one of Ami's skateboarding escapades, with Ami doing her best to translate his words into Spanish, and their extended family was doing their best to follow along. All of a sudden, one of Ami's aunts leaped to her feet with a shriek, pointing towards the treeline with a shaking finger while shouting, "Orso, il orso!" Everyone began to back away slowly, Lucas frantically scooping his daughter up into his arms as the redheaded family attempted to make themselves as hidden as possible. But Ami couldn't tear her eyes away from the brown bear lumbering its way out of the foliage, its too-small brown eyes meeting hers for a fleeting moment. Lucas's grip tightened around her, his jaw clenched as his eyes darted between the bear and his daughter. Abella had a hand on her wand and the other on Ami's shoulder, already in a defensive duelling stance. But the bear slowly turned its head away, and it lumbered off, disappearing back into the treeline.

While everyone collected the remains of their dignity and gradually gathered their wits, Ami could only gape in awe at the spot in the treeline from which the Marsican bear had emerged. She didn't know just exactly what it was that she had felt when the bear had looked at her, but she felt like a different person. She would always remember her father's tight grip around her, her mother's firm hand on her shoulder. She knew that if the bear had charged, she would have been safe. While the rest of her family had looked at that bear and felt fear, Ami would always associate that feeling with unconditional love.

Autumn of 2019 - The Professor

"Uh... Professor Lian? Are you there? It's Ami Procoppio, second year Hufflepuff... I have a, um, problem."

That's how it had started. Her grades in Transfiguration had been dismal for a while, now, but Cypresse had thrown her a life preserver. Ami's interest in Transfiguration quickly blossomed into a feverish obsession with the complicated art, all thanks to Cy's encouragement and support. She was determined to prove to not only Cypresse and her mother, but also to herself, that she was capable of being good at magic. She was no stereotypical Ravenclaw- there had been many days where she had wondered why she was even at Hogwarts in the first place. But Transfiguration gave her a reason to keep studying, reminding her of the beauty in magic. For the first time since coming to Hogwarts, she was motivated, and her efforts paid off.

Towards the end of the school year, Ami began to look into advanced Transfiguration topics in her own time. While she was far too scared to attempt the spells on her own, it certainly couldn't hurt to take a look at the concepts, right? She was blown away by all the possibilities, all the doors that Transfiguration opened to a young witch or wizard. Growing a tail out of thin air? Conjuring birds from the tip of your wand? Turning various objects into ducks?!

But of course, the crème de la crème of them all was the Animagus. There was no spell powerful enough that could turn a human into an animal for an unlimited amount of time. And while you couldn't pick exactly which animal you could turn into, it was still a skill that was envied and coveted by many magical folk. It was an incredibly complicated process and it was incredibly difficult to achieve the status of a proper Animagus... so obviously, Ami made up her mind then and there that no matter what it took, she would become an Animagus. Not just for the novelty of being able to turn into an animal whenever she wanted, but also to prove to herself that she could do it. That she was worthy of being an Animagus.

Winter of 2020 - The Promise

Even the tallest of buildings could crumble. Seemingly indestructible, skyscrapers always appeared majestic and immovable from a distance. But many an industrial giant had fallen before, and Scott and Ami's friendship was no different. Words were slung at one another like daggers, and suddenly, they were no longer friends. All that was exchanged between the pair were stony glares and turned up noses... until Ami landed herself in the Hospital Wing. And although they made amends, Ami and Scott's friendship still stood on rocky ground. Hugs and apologies were all fine and dandy, but that still wouldn't fix the foundation of their argument. Without getting to the root of it, both of them knew that another fight was bound to happen. The months they had spent without one another had been miserable and hellish, and Ami refused to entertain the idea of her and Scott not being best friends. They had a heart to heart, pointing out each other's faults and vowing to do better. Ami especially knew that she had a lot to work on- she was pushy and overbearing, just a tad bit misogynistic, and had a habit of stealing the limelight for herself. But at least she was aware of it now, and made up her mind to be the best best friend Scott would ever have- the type of best friend he deserved.

It was during a chilly day in December that Ami had brought up the topic of Animagi. She thought it was a great idea- the two of them completing one of the most complicated rituals in the magical world together, bonding over the temptation of just giving up and the hardships they would inevitably have to experience. Nothing brought people closer together than an overly complicated process and animals, right? Scott miraculously agreed to her half-formulated, chicken-brained proposition, and the two began the long and arduous task of preparing. While Ami knew the basics of the Animagus transformation, she had never had any reason to dive into the specifics and technicalities of the process. But between her knowledge and love of Transfiguration and Scott's work ethic and his knowledge of other branches of magic, they were able to put together a reasonable plan of action by the end of December. They worked out a timetable that they would have to abide by, a backup plan in case they missed a deadline or the weather conditions weren't ideal, and where they would acquire all the materials. Then, they approached the new Transfiguration professor with their fingers crossed.

Luckily, Professor Wade agreed to mentor the two of them. Unfortunately, due to the professor's own summer plans, Ami and Scott had to regroup and reschedule a few things. Finally, they decided on their final course of action: they would complete the potion-brewing process during the school year, then once they had graduated to their fifth year, they would take their potions together in Ireland. During the school year, between February 27 and March 28, the pair dutifully held the leaves in their mouths. It made spellwork a little complicated and eating even more so, but they managed to hang on to the leaf all the way through without messing up. Ami hadn't minded the mandrake leaf all that much. If you had asked her what it tasted like, she would toss her hair arrogantly and remark that it tasted a bit like gum. Flat and odd-tasting gum, or a mint that never melted and tasted distinctly like dirt, but still gum. It was just... always there. Sometimes she forgot about it, or nearly swallowed it, but one glance at Scott would remind her just why she was doing this.

While Atticus had been kind enough to provide them with the mandrake leaves, Ami was determined to find the rest of the ingredients on her own- or, at least with Scott's help. After all, it was a bonding activity! Plus, the whole proving her self-worth and all of that jazz. The dew was easy enough to find, and was given to Atticus to safeguard. The chrysalises, however, were far more daunting. Ami didn't really like moths, and Leo seemed to think they were cat toys for him to murder. Where on earth were they supposed to find their chrysalises? The two spent their evenings scouring the Hogwarts grounds for the moth's chrysalises, spending hours upon hours looking for the last ingredient. In the end, it was Scott who spotted two chrysalises clinging to a branch just on the edge of the Forbidden Forest, and with a huge sigh of relief, Ami scooped them up into a jar and handed it off to Professor Wade.

Luckily (very luckily, indeed), when the night of March 28th came, the skies were clear and the moon shone brightly high above them. Scott managed to spit his leaf into his vial with dignity and grace, while Ami made a show of hawking up spit in a whole-heartedly disgusting manner before depositing her leaf into her vial. Professor Wade helped them with brewing the potio- well, actually, he did most of the work, considering that neither Scott nor Ami were particularly gifted in the realm of potioneering. The potions were labeled and stored in the dark, quiet place, and Ami and Scott were left to enjoy the rest of their school year. And just as dutifully as they had carried the leaves in their mouths, each day at sunrise and sunset, they would repeat the incantation. It was easy to remember to say the incantation at sunset, but much to Ami's dismay, it was a very long school year of waking up before dawn. But without fail, she would wake before dawn, retrieve her wand, and utter the phrase.

"Amato amino animato animagus."

They passed their final exams, gave Professor Wade the address in Northern Ireland where they would be staying, and prepared for the best summer of their lives.

Summer of 2021 - The Bear

From the exterior, the Jones Residence reminded Ami of one of those bleak family dramas where the sick mother went to the seaside to get some of that "sea air" into her lungs, except the whole movie seemed to have been shot in washed-out grayscale. But inside, Ami had the time of her life in the cottage-like home. Scott's family reminded her of her own No-Maj relatives; down-to-earth, cheery, and grounded. Of course, it was much nicer to be with the Joneses because Ami could freely talk about magic, but that was just a little side detail. The seaside home also provided an air of romanticism to the whole affair, and she was thankful that she was able to spend her summer in so lovely a town.

With the whole potion-brewing-business already out of the way, the two were able to laze their summer away. Ami read a book for once in her life, Scott got sunburnt a hundred times over, and Ami drank so much tea that she could've sworn that when she cried, it was tea streaming down her face. In between their various escapades and tea parties, however, they continued to mutter the incantation at dawn and at sundown, waiting and hoping for a thunderstorm to arrive. August was fast approaching, and as neither of the fifth years had signed up for summer camp, Ami did not want to have to wait until the school year to drink the potion.

Fortunately for them, July 27th would be their lucky day. With the yellow warning on the weather channel alerting Northern Ireland of severe thunderstorms the day before, Ami sent her mother's owl, Evers, off to Atticus with a message telling him to come quickly with their potions. The Joneses were more than delighted to host the Hogwarts Transfiguration professor for tea while he conversed with the two Animagus-hopefuls about the transformation they would undergo. With his large and bristling "flavor saver", as he liked to call his mustache, Atticus was nothing like Cypresse, and honestly, Ami was perfectly fine with the change. Change was natural. He was an excellent professor with a lively personality, and she had enjoyed his classes just as much as she had enjoyed Cy's. From their conversation over tea, she learned that his Animagus form was a Liver Border Collie (which, from what she knew of the professor, she thought fit him perfectly), and confessed to both him and Scott that she hoped her animagus form would be a regal tiger or a majestic hawk. Scott had, of course, scoffed at that, but that didn't stop Ami from hoping.

On the 27th, when the skies opened up and the rain began to pour down on the seaside cottage, Ami and Atticus retreated to the attic of the cottage with her potion, Scott waiting patiently for his turn downstairs. Repeating the blasted tongue-twister of an incantation one last time, with a deep breath, Ami shut her eyes and downed the potion. She had expected the transformation to be painful, even though all of her research suggested that it was entirely painless. In the end, the research was right- when she opened her eyes, she was suddenly looming above her Transfiguration professor, her head nearly touching the low attic ceiling. Had she become a giraffe? Stretching her arms up, she accidentally slammed her hands into the ceiling with a loud thud, severely misjudging how tall she had become. Realizing her hand was stuck in the rafter, Ami stared at her furry paw in disbelief. What was she? Tugging and pulling at her paw, she let out a growl of frustration as she still couldn't get her paw free from the nook in the rafter. But rather than her normal, human grunts of frustration, the ear-shattering roar reverberated through the house. In the dining room below her, she could hear the shattering of china and Edel, Scott's grandmother, exclaim, "Oh my goodness!", and Scott's footsteps thundering across the floor.

Scott burst into the attic, opening his mouth to say something before freezing next to the professor. Ami and Scott stared at one another in silence, Ami now towering above the blond Gryffindor in contrast to how Scott usually stood taller than her. The whole thing was incredibly bizarre, Ami with her paw stuck in the rafter and Scott staring at her wordlessly.

Finally, after what seemed like hours of staring at one another, Scott raised his hand as if he were still in a classroom, turning to Atticus. "I know this is a stupid question," he squeaked out, his voice several octaves higher than normal, "but I need you to confirm that a bear didn't just climb up through the attic window and eat my friend. Can you do that for me please and thank you?"

A bear. She was a bear. It was better than anything she had hoped for or dreamed of- plus, it explained the paw.

Edel's head popped up through the trapdoor with wide eyes, staring at Ami with some mixture of fear and terror. Slowly and shakily, she slid a single teacup across the floor in Atticus's direction, whispering hoarsely, "I made two...... but one... broke........." And with that, she sank beneath the trapdoor once more, disappearing back to the kitchen.

Atticus gently helped Ami untangle her paw from the rafter, and she transformed back into her human form. Once more, she was half an inch shorter than Scott, although she had tackled him in a giant, ahem, bear hug so she seemed even shorter. "It was incredible, Scott," she exclaimed breathlessly, untangling her gangly limbs from around his body. "It was like... it was like being a bear!" Yeah, real descriptive there, hon. "I can't explain it." Clearly. "Dude, it's like, mad bangin'. No cap." Ami, shut up.

Still shaking with excitement, Ami somehow managed to get herself back into the kitchen without keeling over from the sheer shock of it all. She'd done it. She had accomplished one of the most difficult processes known to wizard-kind and planted her flag atop her personal Mount Everest. Not only that, but she had accomplished it with her best friend in the entire world. There was nothing else that could be even half as fulfilling for a 15-year-old, and she was still overwhelmed with the magnitude of the task she had just finished. Months upon months of hard work, years of passion and dedication to the art of Transfiguration, and she had done it. She was worthy of being at Hogwarts, of being a witch. She was proud of a lot of things, of course- being the Hufflepuff Quidditch co-captain, her awards and medals for piano and martial arts, her grades in Transfiguration. But something about achieving the status of an Animagus made Ami feel incredibly at peace with herself. It made her feel like she could accomplish anything, anything at all. Maybe she would run for Minister of Magic next, or fight a dragon in hand-to-hand combat. Whatever it was, she would be able to do it.

The fact that she was a bear wasn't all that surprising to her. Although her memories of Italy had been blurred by time, she could still remember the warmth of her father's embrace, the pressure of her mother's hand on her shoulder, and the feeling of pure love. Most people didn't feel love when looking a brown bear in the eye, but Ami had. And a bear made a lot more sense than, say, a tiger or an eagle, like she'd been hoping. Bears were fiercely protective of those they loved, surprisingly intelligent, and strong as hell- all of which fit Ami to a T. It was a perfect fit.

As the storm continued to thunder on above them, Ami waited patiently for Scott to drink his potion. Unlike her transformation, however, his was remarkably silent. When she popped her head through the trapdoor, she immediately began cackling. There was no way, right? Scott was supposed to be an elephant, or a crane, or something else that was large yet elegant. But instead... "OH MY GOD, YOU'RE A RABBIT?"

"..."

Of course, Scott the Rabbit couldn't say anything back, which only made Ami laugh harder. "HAHA, makes sense."

"..."

"You've always had weird ears," she continued on, acutely aware of the fact that a rather small rabbit was intently staring at her as if it fully intended on murdering her.

"..."

"And teeth."

"... and you've always eaten your own weight in snacks only to sleep for a season, so shut the hell up," Scott the Human retorted, straightening his clothing with a huff.

"Oh you did not... it's rabbit season, buddy," Ami shot back, pretending to cock a hunting rifle in his direction.

"I'm a hare, actually."

"What's the difference?"

Scott smirked, tilting his head at Ami's bewildered expression. "They're faster. So do your best."

1. Wizard Name: Ami Charity Procoppio
2. Animal: Marsican brown bear (Ursus arctos marsicanus)
3. Description: As the name suggests, Marsican brown bears (sometimes known as the Apennine brown bear) are a critically endangered subspecies of the Eurasian brown bear. They are the main attraction of the Parco Nazionale d'Abruzzo, Lazio e Molise and surrounding area in Italy. They have a relatively calm temperament with no serious aggressions shown towards humans. Marsican brown bears are generally larger than your average brown bear, with the adult female brown bear weighing in at around 310 pounds (140 kg) and a little shorter than 2 meters when standing.

As an adolescent teenager, Ami would be considered to be a sub-adult bear. Weighing in at 270 pounds and reaching a height of 6'6" while fully on her hind legs, her fur ranges from dark brown (more on her paws, legs, and shoulders) to a golden beige (more on her face). Her eye color remains the same as her human eyes (dark brown), and her ears are short and rounded. Also, she has terrible breath.

5. Explanation: I'm hoping most of these are self-explanatory, although the size was something I was definitely deliberating on. Taking advice from the help channel on Discord, I hit up D&D's classification to see what they thought, which didn't help in any capacity. My reasoning for a bear being Huge rather than Large stems from the reasoning that when they stand up fully, which they are able to do easily, they are much taller than a horse, plus they are definitely large enough to be ridden (perhaps even too large? internet says bears are too wide to be ridden which also has me torn). While a female Marsican brown bear weighs significantly less than a horse, bears, in general, are much more sturdy and stronger than a horse. But, if index thinks it should be Large (or even Medium, as bears are about 2 meters long), I'd be happy to change it.

I chose Claws 2 instead of the normal one because I was assuming that Claws was for smaller animals with smaller claws, like cats or dogs. Bears seem as big as you can get with an Animagus, so Claws Premium. 11 stamina and 10 strength for the aforementioned sturdiness and strength of bears, and 4 accuracy is based on the accuracy in which bears are able to grab salmon from streams, and also those internet videos where bears are seen looting trash cans.

The Notresvace were a matriarchal family where the women were known for their animagi forms of various species of owls. It was a peculiar trend in the family, given that the men of the family did not always take on the form while the women were absolutely sure to. Despite only being introduced to her Grand-Aunt at 13, Astrilde, would always be her mentor however many years remained ahead of the old woman. Astrilde had taught her many things for the past few years and it was no surprise that she would be one of the people who would guide her through the process to take on the form prominent in the Notresvace family legacy.

At the first few months of her third year, upon hearing about the animagus program Aurelia informed her Grand Aunt who had then encouraged her to proceed. Then, Cypress Lian was the professor teaching transfiguration. Aurelia was incredibly keen on becoming one, only to be told then that she would only begin the process when she was a little older, when her brain was a little more mature and ready. Nevertheless, it didn't hinder Aurelia's aspiration. For the rest of the year until winter break, Professor Lian taught her intensively on the theoretical aspect of Animagi in order to prepare the young girl.

To her chagrin, when Aurelia returned to school after a short hiatus, Professor Lian was no longer teaching. A little disappointed given that she had been looking forward to starting the process, Aurelia sought the Gryffindor Head of House for some help. With knowledge already acquired under Professor Lian's guidance, the only things required were the ingredients that Miss Pendrast had provided after hearing her case.

Then, Aurelia began. The first step was the mandrake leaf. On the day of the first full moon, with a piece of floss, the girl trapped the leaf in between two molars. How else would she practice good oral hygiene without the risk of losing the leaf? It was quite annoying for the first few days to have something stuck in her teeth, but she would soon get used to it. However, with each lunar cycle, it would seem that luck was not in her favour. Clouds, wind, rain, thunderstorms and snow. The first month, Aurelia simply brushed it off and started the process over again, but after the second her frustration grew significantly. Yet Aurelia remained patient. What was the saying that the third time's a charm? Or perhaps it was the third... oh well.

That month, she was finally able to spit the mandrake leaf into a vial under the cloudless night sky. Along with a strand of her auburn-tinted hair, Aurelia added the dew and chrysalis. She would store it in her emptied trunk in her dorm. It took some effort to remind herself to cite the incantation twice daily. Contrary to the bad luck she got on good weather with the mandrake leaf, her luck on bad weather was great, quite ironically. 14 days and she was blessed with a storm, the roaring thunder that shook her from her sleep at 2 am.

Aurelia rarely broke curfew, but this was an exception surely. With the vail in hand, Aurelia sped to find Professor Pendrast. Wasn't the most ideal time, but Aurelia would not risk trying to transform without supervision. Many things could go wrong. Finding Professor Pendrast took almost an hour, Aurelia prayed that the storm would not cease. She was so, so close. When the Head of House finally came to sight, Aurelia instantly held her cherry wood wand across her heart, muttering the incantation once more. "Amato Amino Animato Animagus." The feeling following her words was unlike any she felt before, neither uncomfortable nor painful, but the tingle of magic that surged across her dominant arm whenever she cast a spell whelmed her body.

On the floor she was dwarfed by, the professor towering over her. As her grand-aunt said, her form was an owl, whatever species, she would not know till she morphed in front of the mirror later. Her feet were sharp talons, her eyes huge, her arms were wings. Transforming back into a human, Aurelia would thank the professor, before walking herself back to the Gryffindor commons. She would soon learn that flight did not come as naturally as she thought it would. Even despite her debut, Elaine would not spare any leniency in excusing her for breaking curfew. Aurelia would, to her chagrin, serve a session of detention nonetheless.

1. Wizard Name: Aurelia Notrésvace
2. Animal: Eurasian eagle-owl (Bubo bubo)
DESCRIPTION: Eurasian eagle-owls are one of the largest species of owls. Its a heavy owl with prominent ear-tufts, and powerful feathered talons. Aurelia's form has a length of 67cm, 187cm and weighs 3.85kg.

1Dhampir scars. Although somewhat concealed over with a contrasting layer of pale feathers, a small area on the back of the owl's neck would display two small indents adjacent to another that can be noticed by those with a keen enough eye. Clearly a puncture wound of some sort. 2Bodyshape. Taking on her own body shape, her form may seem thicc curvier and plumper than other owls mostly due to a thicker layer of down feathers. 3Bling. An odd flawlessly straight pink (albino) strip adorned with specks of yellow on its scales wraps around one of the owl's left toes. This is Aurelia's engagement ring that is always adorned on her fourth finger. 4Eyecolour. Aurelia's form takes on pale-yellow eye colour that may seem white in the right lighting - a rather human feature.

REASON: Owls can fly, bite, claw. Eurasian eagle-owls are said to have a grip strength anywhere from 200 to over 500 pounds per square inch. That is equivalent to the force of a german shepherd's bite. This explains my choice for 9 strength suits. I cannot find the strength of an owl's bite. Owl's can hunt both in day and night, although they prefer the latter. Owls have really keen eyesight and hearing. They are able to locate even faint sounds with remarkable accuracy to catch their prey. This explains my choice for giving owleia high accuracy.

I don't consider owls to be very evasive, especially not when on the ground. Although there have been recorded instances of mid-air tussles with other birds, an owl's flight is usually steady. They are fast fliers that can go up to 40 mph an hour, even then not as fast as someone on a broom. There have been instances of owls crashing into trucks.
Mod note: as stated in owl conversation: the "ring" around Aurelia's toe cannot be golden in color. Yellow is an acceptable color, same for her eyes. Owls cannot have red beaks either, so this can't be a defining feature. Also, remember that all of those features will be permanent. Once picked they cannot be changed, so even if Aurelia would break her engagement, she'd still have the "ring" in her animal form. Please change the description and picture accordingly.
If Aurelia is out past curfew, she will receive detention in some form from Elaine. Please include a mention of that as well.

Farron had a lot of free time when she moved to London at the age of 18 in December. Before she was too busy to be bothered to hold a mandrake in her mouth for a month, especially with how much she loved to talk. But after moving to London she just really wanted to be... alone. She hadn't seen her father's family in years so it was awkward trying to interact with them and it only brought up feelings about missing home and her mom. She was reading up about magic involving the moon and she stumbled across animagi magic. It was sort of- moon adjacent just in the first steps so it wasn't a prominent subject within the field, but it piqued her interest and she decided to try, she wasn't doing much in the new city anyway, and she had time to find a job and career and all that nonsense.

She mentioned this plan to her dad, as sort of a "maybe I will, maybe I won't" suggestion, but he encouraged her to. It actually became a sort of, father-daughter bonding thing to try and find all of the ingredients. They hadn't become estranged since her mom passed, but they kind of forgot how to be a family with the two of them. The mandrake leaf, obviously her strand of hair was easy. One morning they went out to collect the dew and together they watched the sunrise, no conversation, just peace between them (also with the dew tucked away). But for the chrysalis they had to do a lot of research together. It was on a lucky afternoon when they were on a chrysalis walk together, leaf securely under her tongue, when her shoe came untied. When she stepped off to the side to tie it, right beside her was an intact chrysalis. It was just a few days before the next full moon so both of them had been frantic about finding it.

Farron obsessively checked the weather leading up to it, hoping for clear skies. She really really didn't want to have to do this a second time. But another lucky stroke meant she was safe from a redo. She stood at the top of a hill in a park nearby to get the most moonlight. With the mandrake leaf spit into a phial combined with a strand of her hair, a sliver teaspoon of dew, and the chrysalis the potion was complete.

The next part was arguably the hardest for Farron. After that month she was really trying to make London feel like home, spend more time out, try and be with her family more. The change had settled in her heart, but it was a lonely change. Remembering to do the incantation; Amato Amino Animato Animagus, at dawn was no issue since she was usually home. But when she would be out and about on the town there were a few close calls where she did the incantation in the last moments of the sunset. Waiting for an electrical storm took longer than wanted, at least one where she was close to home. There was an amazing electrical storm in London but she had been out of town that day and by the time they got back, it was over. It wasn't for another five months since she first mentioned the idea to her dad, at the beginning of their first full summer that they had an electrical storm.

The sky crackled loudly, awaking Farron from a deep slumber. Immediately she shot out of bed and stumbled over to her window. When she saw the storm and processed what was happening she whipped open her closet and pulled the potion deep out of the back where it had been stored in a shoebox. Her heart was racing as she threw on a pair of trainers and ran to a park nearby. It was 4am, so there was little fear that other people would be around. Luckily, she was correct. She popped open the potion, looked up into the sky, then back at the potion. "Amato Amino Animato Animagus." She downed the potion as quick as she could, trying not to gag at the taste. It took mere moments for the potion to take effect, her sight quickly being lowered to ground level. As she turned in circles, trying to figure out what she was she squealed with glee in an ungodly screech of what she had become, a quokka.

The animal was quite frankly, perfect for her. It was renowned for always looking like it was smiling, even though that's just how its muscles formed around its teeth. They were also nocturnal, a slight nod at the career that she was trying to pursue of studying space. But most of all, it was an animal native to Australia. Her home. It felt like a part of her had become whole again, knowing that she would forever carry Australia with her.

Her poor dad did have to wake up to a soaking wet quokka on his chest.

4. Distinctive Marking: Quokka's have pretty short brown hair, but for Farron's it would have a patch of hair between the ears that is red, longer than the rest, and curly. There is nothing more distinctive about Farron than all the hair she has when its down.

To the best of her knowledge, no one in her immediate family had ever tried to become an Animagus; not that she'd ever asked. Illowy supposed they'd never seen a reason to, but after having learned in class about Animagi and the Animagus Program, Illowy took a silent interest in the process. She'd been excelling in transfiguration for years by this point, it seemed only natural that sooner or later the young witch would start arming herself for the challenge. Illowy had a habit for taking on research and projects that weren't always necessary, but this was near the top of her list. Two years she'd spent reading every book she could the in the Library had on the subject, and wandering about the school and grounds to try to figure where one might find her ingredients. She had absolutely no intention to half ass such a spell; after all there was no room in it for mistakes and Illowy wasn't keen on failing.

Really, the only person who was aware her commitment to actually preform the spell was her mentor, Professor Wade, whom made the most logical sense to her to ask to mentor her. It was under his instruction that she'd thrived like she had. Otherwise she hadn't outwardly spoken about it to a soul. Why that was, she didn't know; maybe it was a little bit to do with her fear of failing something so complex knowing some people held high expectations of her capabilities, or maybe she simply didn't want to explain what had been the trigger to seriously considering preform it in the first place. Whatever the reason, she didn't allow herself to think too hard about it. Overthinking was never a kind friend to her.

Preparing for the spell had been as big of an undertaking as she had expected. Evidently it did sometimes pay to over plan. At the bottom of her school trunk, she'd socked away a small box that had been laying in wait for when she was finally began. For a while, it had only contained a silver teaspoon she'd taken from her mother's fine set at home, wrapped in a clean handkerchief, the death-head moth chrysalis and a new phial she'd set aside to ensure she'd always have one available. Part of her was glad that she'd taken the opportunity to collect the chrysalis prior to starting the rest of the spell. It had proven to be the biggest pain to find one, and when she had finally, she couldn't risk not passing it up. That was the end of the easy part. Everything else rested purely on her own aptitude and cleverness... and maybe a little bit of luck.

She'd already been maintaining an close account of the lunar cycle, so when it finally came time to start the mandrake leaf, she felt she was prepared for the task and had her plan in place for her time frame. Of course, one can never been fully prepared for the annoyance that is actually keeping a mandrake leaf in one's mouth for a full cycle. Thankfully she wasn't much of a talker and soup was a socially acceptable replacement for most meals so to not risk accidently swallowing the awful thing. No mistakes. She didn't want to risk mistakes.

The silver teaspoon of painfully specific dew proved to be the bane of her existence. Just the memory of the amount of time she'd spent, scouring the grounds and woods looking for just the right place to find enough dew that had never been touched by the sun or by human feet for seven whole bloody days... By Merlin, she never wanted to have to do that again if she screwed this up. She supposed she might've asked for help, either from a friend or her mentor. However, Illowy often was a stubborn young witch, and too proud for her own good to ask for help. In her mind, it was a necessity that she do this herself completely, with only as much supervision and assistance as she absolutely had to have.

When the next full moon finally came around, the girl slipped into the night with her little box of supplies, taking care to ensure she was in full witness by the moon's light as she began her work. Notes dutifully at her side, she spat the (at that point) disgusting mandrake leaf into the phial, then slipped a strand of her hair in after it before carefully adding the dew and finally her death-head moth's chrysalis, sealing the phial securely. Now all that was left to do was ensure the mixture was tucked away in a safe, dark, quiet place and play the waiting game.

Faithfully, the girl maintained the ritual every dawn and every sunset, with the tip of her wand over her heart and repeat her incantation, "Amato Amino Animato Animagus.". Sometimes after the ritual, she would allow herself to wonder what she might become; perhaps a cat or some other relatively solitary animal? Maybe she would align with her childhood nickname and become a magpie; though she couldn't think how she might be similar to such a creature. She couldn't hope to guess what the form would be.

Illowy never fancied herself much of a weather watcher, but for weeks whenever the sky seemed to overcast her heart would nearly thump out of her chest. Though all that was brought was a bit of rain and nothing more. Eventually, her patience would pay off the afternoon clouds would finally roll in with a gift for her; gleaming flashes of electricity. To say she booked it to her find her mentor would be an understatement. The lass was nearly trembling with a wash of anxiety and anticipation; and she was not one to usually allow herself such displays of feeling. The witch could've basked in the glory that was that perfect storm as it swirled and flashed above them when she reached the place Illowy had long since planned to be the perfect place for solitude; a spot she often came out to by the lake, where rarely any else came out to and disturbed her. But especially not with a storm ahead.

Under her mentor's watchful eye, Illowy raised the tip of her wand to her heart one last time to recite her incantation, "Amato Amino Animato Animagus." she spoke, keeping her voice clear and confident. No mistakes, she wouldn't allow it. Finally, she drank her potion... yet another reason to her list as to why she didn't want this to go wrong. For the love of all things decent, she never wanted to have that taste in her mouth again. Illowy wasn't sure what she'd been expecting from the transformation. The world seemed to shift and change around her, if anything it was a little dizzying to the senses, even the smell of the storm air seemed more intense. She turned her head slightly, trying to gauge the Professor's reaction before looking down at herself. Her head bowed lower, craning from one side to the other as she assessed her new form; dark, wiry hair... four legs... a tail, a long one...She was... a dog? At her core, she was like a dog? Apparently she required more introspection about herself then she originally thought.

The dark Irish Wolfhound tested her legs a bit, moving awkwardly through the grass. She felt so acutely aware of herself, but also of the sounds and scents surrounding her. This would prove to be a bit of getting used to, she thought before transforming back to her human state. Smoothing her long hair back from her face, she sucked in a deep breath and it all settled into her chest what she'd just accomplished. Years of reading, preparing, planning... and she'd finally done it.

She'd actually done it!

Ministry of Magic File :
1. Wizard Name : Illowy Sage Magnard
2. Animal : Irish Wolfhound
3. Description : Black Irish Wolfhound, with pale amber eyes. This breed has shaggy, wiry fur. The head is long and slightly narrow, with a long, semi-pointed muzzle, and short, floppy hears. The neck and body is long and muscular, as well as the legs, and accompanied by a long, slightly curve tail. Overall a tall and muscular animal, bred with the intention to hunt large and powerful game. At adult size, females stand at 30inches from foot to shoulder and weigh approximately 105lbs.
4. Distinctive Marking : As one of the previously cursed students, while the curse was cured, the scars from the initial bites still remain. Scars take the form of light grey and white spots peaking against the dark fur (locations of the bites include left shoulder, shoulder blade and front leg, left hip and hindleg, right lower front leg).

To Dan's knowledge, no one in his family had attempted to be an Animagus before. To be honest, the entire thing seemed like it was out of some kind of fantasy novel. The ability to transform into an animal? Sounded ridiculous. But he had heard of it, and upon much studying, he found that is was indeed real. What's more, he was in the year it was taught now! That meant....
Dan of course, had to think this over. This was a big deal. If he did this, it wasn't reversible. He would be able to transform into this animal, and only this animal, for the rest of his life. He thought at first of comparing it to a tattoo, but those WERE reversible, albeit painfully and expensively. This, was truly permanent. Then he decided, yes. This is something he'd like to do.

His parents had been supportive of the idea when he wrote to them, and so he sought the advice of his head of house, Hjordis Jensin. She had agreed to mentor and oversee his attempt, as neither of them wanted Dan to do this alone. Something Dan's parents also seemed to agree with.

Being a pureblood, and being rather wealthy, the ingredients were not hard to come by. Well, most of them. The silver teaspoon was simple, the mandrake leaf a joke. The chrysalis of the Deaths Head moth, however, had proven difficult to find a seller for. Finally, after two solid weeks of using family connections, Dan had managed to find one himself.
Dan had not even bothered to try to get dew by paying for it. He knew there was no possible way anyone was going to have dew that specific just laying around. Nor would they have it for sale anywhere. This, was utterly asinine. Dan looked about for ages trying to find a spot where dew had not been touched by the sun or human feet for seven days, until it finally hit him
'Duh, the Forbidden forest.'
With that out of the way, he had everything he needed.

He had been keeping a close read on the lunar cycle the entire time he had been preparing, and popped in the mandrake leaf at the exact time it was required. Dan had told no one about his plans, and while he had been less than talkative after Andrew Vance had vanished, his Quidditch team did find it rather odd that their captain was communicating exclusively in their hand signals.
Eating and drinking were also difficult, but Dan adapted rather quickly to it. Soups and juices were fine for nutrition.

Finally, the time had come. In the light of the full moon, Dan brought his empty vial, the vial of dew, and the deaths head chrysalis. Bathing in the rays, Dan finally spat the repugnant leaf out into the vial, plucked a strand of hair, and added it in with the deaths head chrysalis and dew.
He quickly corked the vial, brought it inside, and put it in a case under his bed and locked it so that no wizard (or curious kitty) could disturb it.

He then proceeded to find a secluded spot to keep it a secret, and put his wand over his heart every dawn and every sunset, chanting the same words.
"Amato Amino Animato Animagus"

As luck would have it, he didn't have to do it for that long. Within a week and some change, the afternoon was beset with an electric storm.
Dan grabbed the potion and ran for Jensen's office faster than he had ever moved on foot, and they made for outside immediately. As was planned, there was no quidditch practice that day, so they went there for seclusion.
Once there, Dan began to feel a slight twinge of worry. What if this was some useless thing, or a snail or something?
That didn't matter. He had put far too much effort into this to back out now. He was in WAY too deep. Steadying his breathing, he put his wand over his heart one more time, and said that incantation one final time.
"Amato Amino Animato Animagus"

Dan downed the potion all at once. And by the saints, that was the most revolting thing he had ever tasted.
Everything started spinning and swirling all at once, and Dan started to wonder if he had made a mistake. Did he end up poisoning himself?
All of a sudden he was much shorter than he was before. He looked up at Jensen to see if he had done something wrong, but her expression more than answered to the negative. He had done everything right. He looked about in confusion. What was he? Something else he noticed was he was able to see every single pore on Jensen's face in better than 4k HD.
He tried to extend a limb to look, but found that when he did look, he had...wings? Was he a bird?!
Wait... he recognized that plumage from somewhere...
He looked down at his feet -oh sorry, Talons- and saw the bright yellow coloring.
He then decided to do one more thing to make sure. He spread his wings and flew. Literally. This... well he got the hang of it. But this would take a lot of getting used to. He was by no means fast right out the gate. And these new eyes were really messing with him.
He gently landed himself. With plumage like this, and a body this sleek, there was only one thing he was.
He was a Peregrine Falcon! He'd actually done it!
