"This is insane..."Paige announced as she and her mother walked down Diagon Alley. "You mean the amount of things to buy- Her mom replied, looking around. "Or that we're surrounded by magic?" Paige considered her answer, before replying, "Both, I suppose. You spend your childhood believing magic, then you learn it sine real-" Paige looked at her wand. "Only to learn it's real again." It was true, and it was funny, really.

"You were never one for unicorns, though" Her mother said. Paige shrugged. Years ago, if you told her all of this was real, she would laugh and play along to make you feel good, while worrying about you. But now... well, here she was. Paige waved her hand, fanning herself in the heat of the beating sun. Well, actually, there was plenty of shade but so many wizards that it was bottled than it should be. "Are you hot? I'm hot. It's hot." She said, vastly, suddenly noticing the shop nearest to them.

A wicked thought crossed her mind. She would get her mom to go in the pet shop with her and convince her to let her get a cat. Paige pulled out her bag of wizard money and counted. Yup. She should have enough for something. A buddy would make her feel happy and stuff... Paige had to think of better reasons.

"Hey mom, we already got most of the stuff on the list, right? Yeah I think we did." She said, matter-of-factly. "Let's get some cooler air. AC? Does the wizarding world have AC? Whatever." She said. Her mom looked around. "We could get some ice cream, I suppose.." oh no! Her mom would wonder why she had chosen no to ice cream and then she'd be suspicious....

Not to worry, Paige Still had some fight left. "No, No, no. That's uh... that's too far away." She said, even though she could see the ice cream shop. She grabbed her mom's hands and steered her towards the pet shop. "Come on mom, this is closer." Her mom allowed herself to be dragged in, but she seemed to figure out Paige's plan.

"Alright, but you're not getting a pet." Paige's heart fell as she walked into the stood, the fresh air hitting her face. It was less refreshing, now.
Darn.

Wait. A light bulb went off inside her head. "Sure mom, I'll just look." She walked along the rows of pets. She looked at the rats first. They were cute, but they didn't call to her. She looked at the owls, and only shrugged. She started to look at the cats, when she heard a voice. "Can I help you?" Paige turned, it was a kind looking man. "Yeah, I'm just looking around, that's all." The man seemed to understand, or maybe he just wanted to help her look. He showed her a cat. "He's real sweet.." Paige stuck her finger through the cage and wiggled it. "He's cute.."

A sudden sound made her look up as she saw a silver cat walking out of an open cage. "Not again. Come on girl, enough trying to sneak about." Paige smiled as she walked over to the cat and picked her up. The kitten licked her nose and she smiled.

Her mom walked over. "Mom, look how cute..." Her mom looked at the tiny kitten. "I think she wants to come home with me. Please, mom? She'll keep me company at Hogwarts..." Her mom sighed and looked at her daughter and the kitten.

"Oh, all right. You win, this time." Paige gasped and hugged her new kitten. "So what will you name her?" Paige already knew the answer. "Shady."
