Letters and Sad Songs
The Rehearsal Room. I didn't have to use the walls to feel my way to this room anymore. Who knew it would become such a familiar place. Where I did all my deep thinking, letter writing and crying. But never have I used it for what it's usually used for.
She felt around for the door for it's handle, the cool metal standing out from the wooden frame. Annie pulled open the door and felt a warm draft of air greet her. Pausing a moment she listened to make sure she hadn't bothered anyone. Usually you could hear if someone was practicing singing or playing the piano or what not from a ways away but luckily it was silent in the room and along the hallway to it. Speaking of..
Annie didn't know the room that well, she usually just sat against a bare wall and did her thing. But she did know there was a piano, somewhere. WHAM! Found it. Or well, if you call slamming your toe into bench and almost toppling over it finding it then yes. Recovering from her nearly fatal accident she awkwardly slid onto the bench. What color was it? Made a lavish black or perhaps a deep walnut or even a glassy off-white? She sighed at the thought. Her hands glided towards the cover over the keys and carefully lifted it up. Annie hesitated before placing her hands on the ivories. She hadn't played in awhile and god knows how hard it would be without even seeing the keys now.
First to get familiar with them again. A, A minor, C major, C minor and so on. After a few stumbles and slips of the fingers she felt comfortable playing the simple chords. It wasn't anything fancy and she was actually pretty amazed to remember it. Taking a deep breath and closing her eyes although it didn't matter anyway she began to sing and play.
"I can almost see it-"
She paused after the first line, her hands slipping due to a bit of laughter at the irony. Quickly she collected herself resuming her hand position on E.
"that dream I'm dreaming but there's a voice inside my head saying you'll never reach it,"
Her hands glided gracefully over to the A chord but struggled on the F sharp minor as her voice dropped off. She folded her hands in her lap and sat their quietly before quickly shutting the piano cover with a loud bang, not feeling like playing anymore. A small knot formed in her throat as she stood up from the bench and crept over to an empty wall and slid down the wall. The tiny roll of parchment poked out from her robe, reminding her what she came her for. Annie gritted her teeth, it seemed like anything normal she wanted to do she couldn't or she struggled with. Playing the piano, writing letters. It was all wrong.
She laid her head back against the wall, not feeling like writing a letter anymore and skipped to the pre-chorus instead. Her voice laced with emotion, feeling utterly open and exposed at that very moment. Don't cry don't cry don't cry.
"But I- I got to keep trying, got to keep my head held high.."

Letters and Sad Songs
It wasn't very often Jack found himself on the fourth floor. However, he had figured he would go on an exploratory jaunt through the ballroom and rehearsal room. Sadly the ballroom was wholely uneventful. It wasn't unusual for the large room to sit empty, and it honestly made him a little sad. With simple steps echoing across the fourth floor of the large stone castle, the prefect slowly made his way towards the rehearsal room. He hadn't spent much time there, aside from that god-awful dance he had performed with Jake and George. From what he could tell, Professor Jensen hadn't seemingly told anybody about that shite. Otherwise, he would have for sure been a laughing stock of the school. If that little tidbit from his time learning ballet has escaped, a rumor of that magnitude convinced him that he would have to murder somebody.
The empty thoughts about how he was kind of similar to the ballroom roamed around in the boy's skull were pervasive. Lately, he had felt bereft. His family life was difficult, and the only way he had decided to deal with it is by turning up his ridiculous factor. Jack swung his head from side to side, shaking the images of his father out of his head. It didn't help much, but the move helped him focus on something else. Alone the boy's personality was much more subdued.
Soft sounds of the somber tones of a piano slowly pulled the boy out of his introspection before he stopped out the doors of the rehearsal room. Huh. Jack knew that people sometimes played music in the room, but this one felt rather personal. From behind the sound of a piano came a voice—a singing voice to precise. The emotions from the sounds coming from the room made his chest tighten. Sad songs always got him right in the feels. Pushing the door open as slowly as he could to prevent any noises that would give him away, Jack was so curious to see who was making sad noise in this room. The person singing was probably supposed to be having a private moment, but Jack was still Jack. He didn't care much for the privacy of others. Even with a morose disposition, the boy can't stop himself from being himself.
The slightest of squeals from the door's hinges alerted Jack's presence. Looking into the room Jack saw the very noticeable hair(?) of a certain prefect. He sat for a moment, just listening. He didn't really feel like putting the girl down like he would have done normally. She was having a moment, and Jack just wanted to witness it. Selfish? Probably, but it's whatever. He was here now so screw it. "You're pretty good at tha', huh?" the music was broken by his voice, after several moments of listening. His arms were crossed and he leaned against the doorframe. It was a cool pose that he had seen in several movies before.

Letters and Sad Songs

A few more verses had flowed out of her mouth, some more shaky than others. Music was a beautiful thing and the lyrics sometimes touched your soul in the right place. She paused to take a breath and then something besides her voice replaced the silence. Another voice. Another familiar voice.
. . .
The dots finally connected. Another person was in the same room with her. They had listened to her sing. And who else would it be but Mr. Jack Warren the self-proclaimed prodigy of his year. She was still sour about him becoming a prefect especially with his.. weird personality. Getting thrown back into reality she yelped and scrambled up from her seated position. "What the freaking FREAK Jack!" The shy, sad demeanor was gone besides a small tear that trickled down her cheek which she quickly wiped off. Now back to the angry, hot-headed self that she always shown him. If she were a cat, her hair would've been prickled in defense, he always had to ruin the moment!
Her brain settled down and she recalled what he had said. Wait he said I was good at singing? God is he deaf too? She shook her head and laid her head back against the wall staring at the ceiling. "Yeah alright, thanks for trying to make me feel better. Everyone else is waaaay more talented than me. We actually have quite a few good singers although I can't really recall ease dropping on any of them." She sent the sarcastic comment his way with a roll of her eyes.
"What brings you up here anyways? Trying to find an escape from reality?" She let out a sad chuckle, her wall slowly breaking down. The brunette slid to the floor again and patted the floor next to her so she wasn't just talking to an open space. His voice seemed far away, next to the doorway. How long had been standing there anyways? A small pang of embarrassment hit her before she waved it away. "Come sit and talk,
I won't bite." She managed a small smile on her face before staring off into space. "What's up with you anyways? I always run into you but never ask you how you are? Guess I should be more friendly to you since we are job buddies and house buddies. Usually I just try starting fights with you but we've seen how that goes.." Annie trailed off, a small pout on her face at the few times she ran into him. She was a lot more.. feisty and immature back then.
