A Train. How . . . Quaint.  Closed

Darcy Adair wrinkled her nose in distaste as she stared up at the smoke-spewing monstrosity of a train towering above her. She wasn't surprised. As she came from a long line of pure-bloods, she knew what the Hogwarts Express was and therefore knew what to expect. But honestly, with all the magic and technology in the world, couldn't the students travel to Hogwarts by plane or even by an electric train? The smoke made her throat tickle and she was sure it's smell was tainting her clothing and hair. But Darcy supposed that she should get used to . . . less than adequate things. She was going to school with muggleborns, after all.
"Are you ready, sweetheart?" Meredith Adair, Darcy's mother, asked, a hand resting on her daughter's shoulder.
Darcy nodded. "Of course I'm ready, mum," she replied in a clipped tone. She was ready. She had to be.
"She is an Adair, after all," Nathaniel, Darcy's father, added, setting Darcy's trunk on the ground near the train platform. He smiled at her, a foreign expression on his usually serious face.
Darcy nodded again, tucking a piece of straight brown hair behind one ear and squaring her shoulders. Witches and wizards flooded by, filling the station, herding their children and hugging goodbye. Darcy forced a small, stern smile onto her lips. With no small amount of effort, she lifted up her near-bursting trunk and turned to her parents. "I'll see you during break," she said, then started walking toward the train. She didn't turn back. Darcy wasn't one for elaborate displays of affection. She squeezed her way through the pulsing crowd, shouting, "Excuse me, can't you see I'm trying to get through?" an absurd amount of times along the way. Darcy rolled her eyes. People were so inconsiderate.
As she walked through the train doors, a tiny flutter if nervousness danced in her stomach. Darcy banished it. She was Darcy Adair. Stupid things like school didn't frighten her. She continued shoving her way through the mob until she reached a somewhat decent seat.
She sat down daintily and crossed her designer-jean-clad legs, willing her death grip on her trunk to loosen. Everything would be fine. She stared out the window as the train, huffing and puffing, pulled out of the station. In the distance, she could spot her parents, hand in hand, watching the Hogwarts Express depart. Darcy looked away.

"Don't you underestimate me, 'cause I know that I won't go speechless."

”Be good! Dakotas older brother, Mel, called after her. He stood by another man, this being Travis and the oldest of the Olson siblings “and keep your head down.” listening to his words, Dakota ducked her head and shuffled along.
After Dakota disappeared into the crowd of students she hurried up the train steps and into it. Instantly, Dakota felt anxious too many people.. she thought too many voices. Dakota seemed to get knocked around a bit, her smaller frame making it harder to hold her footing. Her gaze searched the compartments as she passed them, finally, she reached the one with Darcy in it. “Hello?” using a quiet voice she tried to draw Darcy's attention “I was just looking for a place to sit- do you mind..?”
Dakota was a small person, standing at 4’11 and only seeming to weigh around 90-100 pounds. Her hair was a golden brown and her eyes a crystal blue that peered curiously at Darcy. The honey-golden complexion to her skin seemed to almost shimmer a bit in the sunlight seeping through the windows and her cheeks were a rosy red. “I do truly hope I’m not bothering you-“ adding to this, she thought and that you don’t turn me down-.

Darcy looked up sharply at the sound of the other girl's voice. She had golden brown hair and blue eyes, and she looked quite embarrassed, just standing there in the doorway to Darcy's compartment.
Darcy arched one eyebrow. Poor thing. If she was looking for the warm, fuzzy, friendly type, she had come to the wrong train car. Darcy contemplated the girl's question. She wanted to sit. In here. With Darcy, who, as a rule, didn't like people. But then again, she was kind of bored. She looked out the window for a second. The train had left busy, bustling London and was now streaking through the countryside. All she could see was green in every direction.
She turned back to the girl. "Fine," she said in a bored voice, "I guess you can sit. You're already here, anyway, so why not." She tossed her brown hair back and pursed her lips. She scooted over slightly to make room.
"I'm Darcy Adair," she said. "I wouldn't suppose you have a name as well, do you?" She smiled sweetly, widening her hazel eyes, and patted the seat next to her, motioning for the girl to sit. This was going to be an interesting train ride, that's for sure. Darcy straightened the sleeves of her sweater and sat back to enjoy it.

Dakotas lips twitched, giving Darcy a light smile as she slipped into the seat beside the Slytherin girl. Dakota could be seen wearing a grey tank top with a button up that has stars and moons dappled along it, jean shorts with butterfly patterns sewn into it and a pair of black flip flops. Taking in a light breath she began to speak “thank you—it’s Dakota, Dakota Olson.” giving another smile, this time warm, it forced her cheeks upwards, this being the first time Darcy is able to notice Dakotas apple cheeks as they seem to make her scrunch her eyes.
Dakota hadn’t been expecting to be showed kindness initially, or, at least what she believed to be kindness. Having hardly ever received a kindly manner pointed towards herself this was a bit surprising for the young girl. She wasn’t exactly sure what to say, her gaze traveling to the window where the greenery swept by, feeling a sense of comfort seeing this as she was raised near the woods. Pausing, Dakota bit down on her lip, seeing she was a muggle she wasn’t sure what Darcy would want to talk about and even what Darcy bloodline was, making Dakota anxious as her thoughts swirled.
