MENTION
@Celeste Wetherstead
───────────────────────────
For Everly, an innocent little eight year old, possibilities in life were endless. In her eight year old mind, that was true, and so was it as currently. But the eight year old was an eight year old, and being an eight year old with eight year old logic, Everly was also quite stupid.

The Charltons were going to a play, of all things. A play - Everly was quite excited. The previous thoughts about life were also in mind, but Everly didn't pay them much attention upon arriving at the theatre. Everly was paying careful attention to what was going on since the play started, but soon Everly found her feet swinging and her hands tapping. She glanced over, seeing her parents sitting next to her, and her siblings Asher, Myles, and Adeline on the other side. They were still watching the play attentively.

Not much time had passed, and Everly had started twitching. Even Everly herself wasn't sure why she was acting so weird. The small girl tried to pay attention, but after so long, she had realized she had no idea what was even going on in the play. Blinking a few times to clear her vision, taking in a long breath, Everly focused again.

And then got distracted again.

"Asher," Everly whispered under her breath, prodding her brother.

"Hush, Everly. Isn't the play so interesting?" Asher would respond, and Everly would obey, but Asher's words confused her. So interesting? Not so much, in Everly's opinion.

Was she getting bored?

Interacting with @Everly Charlton

Opening night was fascinating. To Celeste, at least. She loved the hustle and bustle of actors running around backstage, some decked out in full costume and languidly smoking cigarettes, others gripping scripts with shaking hands, reciting lines last-minute under their breaths.

In the middle of it all stood her father. Barking out orders, a pencil behind each ear, Oberon Wetherstead harriedly checked that every member of the theatre— be they actor, stagehand or one of the numerous jobs that the Euphony Theatre had to offer— was doing their job, and woe betide any slackers.

Amidst the chaos of the first act beginning, nobody noticed the small girl slipping away. Celeste patted down her fringe and, seeing as her father's watchful gaze was for once directed elsewhere, skipped right out of there.

It was interesting that her father hadn't noticed her disappearance, Celeste mused, as she wandered around the theatre, finally settling down in an empty seat near a family of six. Normally he would have materialised within a few seconds of her vanishing and started dragged her right back. Oh well, all the better for her, anyway. Now she could watch the play from the audience's perspective, which made a nice change from the musty wings. She smiled at an explosion of red sparks onstage, which the Muggle audience doubtless thought was a display of the marvels of 21st century special effects. In reality, she knew that there was a wizard under a Disillusionment Charm standing in the shadows, wand poised at the ready for the sequence of spells he was to cast. Instead of ropes, wires and smoke machines, the Euphony Theatre used magic.

Alas, her concentration on the play was soon broken. The girl sitting beside her, whom Celeste judged to be around the same age as herself, was beginning to fidget, swinging her feet like Newton's cradles and tapping her hands. To her credit, she did appear to be trying to pay attention, blinking her dark brown eyes and taking deep breaths, though her attempts were in vain. She even whispered to who was presumably her brother, but was given a gentle rebuke.

Truth be told, Celeste had little interest in watching the play as well. Weeks of attending rehearsals will do that to a person. So she did what any bored eight-year-old would have done: she waited for a particularly enthralling—to most other watchers, anyway— soliloquy before leaning over and trying to make a new friend.

"Hello," she whispered to the girl. "My name is Celeste. What colour are your curtains?"

Believe it or not, this was a perfectly ordinary conversation starter in her mind.

The insistent tapping of Everly's fingers against the seat was starting to annoy everyone, even Everly herself. "Everly, it's getting tedious," Everly's mother told her in a harsh whisper. "Pay attention or find something better to do." Everly shrank in her seat. Not out of shame, for she was scolded like such more than quite often, even though she knew her mother meant well. Everly just might sort of, kind of, feel a bit bad. Which was very different.

Also, she was quite sure she knew what tedious meant. Almost very sure.

It was interesting, though, Everly mused, how such thing were capable in this play, with mere Muggle tools. She supposed it was Muggle tools, anyways, since they were at a Muggle theatre. Though, she did wonder, how much more capable were Muggles nowadays than wizards assumed they were? It was interesting, at least to the little eight-year-old mind. Everly was fascinated by these things, though, and she couldn't wait to find out more about these... machines in the future. Like, what were crayons, and how did those... things work? And how did airplanes even fly? Or, yet a better question, what was a hole puncher?

Everly really wanted to know.

Everly's important pondering was interrupted by another small voice. It took a couple of blinks for this to register, for Everly was quite sure that no one would want to talk to an annoying tiny kid who wasn't even capable of listening to their parents. But it turns out that someone was, in fact. Everly peeked behind her with a curious, little, innocent look on her face. It was another kid, of which Everly had no idea why she was behind her, but hey, more distractions! Let the fireworks commence! "Hiiii!" Everly whispered eagerly, hushed, and urgently. "I'm Everly! It's so nice to meet you!" At Celeste's question, Everly tilted her head in consideration. "My curtains are purple." Everly crossed her arms. "What about yours, then?" Everly asked, prodding gently in curiosity.

Everly snuck another look back at her parents, checking and wondering if they had caught on to whoever in the world Everly was whispering to during a play. And it turned out that they hadn't yet, so Everly figured that was a relief. She didn't want to lose such an interesting and new friend so soon.
