Forgotten Birthday Girl

Date set: April 14th
Classes were let out, students shuffling excitedly through the hallways, whispers and laughter filled the halls as they made their way to lunch. A particular student was not having it. Her shoes trudged along the floor, her pace slow and feet dragging with each step. Floor after floor she climbed, away from the common room, away from others until her hand brushed a wooden door frame. It was unfamiliar, for she had not been to this room in a long while. From her memory, she had wandered upon the Rehearsal Room.
She cautiously pushed the door and stood in silence for a few seconds. No one seemed to be belting, sobbing or playing an instrument of sorts so she was safe. Annie pulled out a Howler, something she had received form this morning's breakfast. It hushed the table and her classmates around her and made her profoundly mad. Usually her parents would still write her letters and she had Callie or someone else trusted read them out for her but not in this case. The only letter she had received was a letter of which someone read to her:
This had peaked her curiosity and she tucked the small note and Howler into her pocket which had begun to heat up quite a bit due to her leaving it unopened for so long. She took a breath and opened the seal, the red envelope shooting straight up into the air.Go some place quiet to read this, it's important
Love Mum

The letter had paused and Annie waited for some sort of bad news before the letter continued.Hello dear! I know we haven't talked for awhile and I apologize for this being sent in the form of a Howler but I figured you should hear this.
The Howler burst into flames and Annie heard something drop the floor. She bent down to the floor and felt around, her hand touching something cool. Her fingers gently picked it up and ran across the surface, realizing what it was. A daisy, her childhood nickname. A soft laugh escaped from her mouth. She was thankful she didn't have to have someone read this letter to her but a Howler was kind of unnecessary.Happy Birthday my beautiful little girl! Well I guess you aren't that little anymore but I just wanted to let you know that your father and I are so amazed with the respectful young lady you have become and how strong you have been through everything. We baked your favorite desert, a peach pie to celebrate your birthday even though you can't be here to eat it. We hope your classes are going as well as they can and everyone is being nice to you. We can't wait to see you this summer!
We love you, you'll always be our little daisy even as you grow older and become more mature. We are so proud of you.

The brunette wasn't a fan of her birthday, she rather people forget about it and not make a huge deal out of it. She had even forgot her own birthday this year, but her parents didn't. Her calloused thumb ran across the small piece of metal before pulling her hair to the side and clasping it around her neck. Annie held onto the necklace and a small sob escaped her throat.
"Thank you." She mumbled as her head tilted up to the ceiling. Annie closed her eyes, one hand clasped around the jewelry on her neck. A wave of homesickness and loneliness hit her.
"Happy birthday to me."
