Background Story

Chaleur was born in Glasgow, Scotland. Both of her parents were professors at prestigious universities, and took jobs in England when Chaleur was a child, so her Scottish accent isn't as prominent. She grew up well off moneywise, but her parents were absent through most of her life. She was basically raised by random au pairs until the fateful day that she received her letter.

As a child she was curious and inquisitive, always wanting to know why things were the way they were and how it all worked. She is quick tempered when it comes to her own shortcomings, not liking not knowing everything. This has made her a dedicated student, constantly studying and reading whatever she can get her hands on. She is also competitive, mentally and physically.

Chaleur was put in many lessons and activities to keep her busy while her parents were often away at work. She learned to play the piano and the harp, she speaks English and French loves to garden, is well read, and can do just about any ballroom dance.

She was named after her grandmother, who was the only one in her extended family that ever reached out to them. Everyone else stayed distant, and never wrote or phoned. Except for the occasional visit from her very odd uncle on her mother's side, who always comes off grungy and mysterious, but he has a lot of love for his niece. Chaleur stopped asking about the rest of her family long ago, since the only responses she could ever get out of her parents were "we're not sure, honey" and "it's complicated." Her grandmother more than made up for their absence with all her love when she would come to visit. She was an adventurous woman who loved to travel the world and engage in a good intellectual debate. She was spontaneous and wonderful. Chaleur aspired to like her when she was younger, now she just wants to surpass her.

She was expecting to start the sixth grade, and was preparing herself fully by finishing up the last of her summer projects and reading assignments. She was getting herself ready to start a new chapter of her life in middle school, but two weeks before September and three days before the start of the school season, a man who claimed to be a professor from a school called 'Hogwarts' where children begin, at the age of eleven, their magical education. Chaleur had laughed when the man presented the letter to her, thinking it had all been a joke, but it was the looks on her parents faces that told her otherwise. They looked as though they had seen a ghost. Her mother spoke out first, just a small push to see if he could prove what he was saying, and Chaleur watched the stranger cause the papers on the desk to float in the air and dance around the room, among a few other things. Her parents accepted the letter, and there was a long conversation about how long they had known Chaleur was different, not regular at all like the two of them, and how much everything was about to change for her.

After the professor left, the next two weeks of waiting and inner turmoil almost drove Chaleur mad. She had no way to prepare. No idea what to expect next. She didn't even know what to write in her journal. There are several missing entries and very short and vague sentences between the day she received her letter and the day she left.

First Instance of Magic

She was two years old, it was the early morning and everyone was eating breakfast. Their housecat had jumped up on the table to sniff at Chaleur, and the girl in her excitement somehow caused an ignition that little poor creature's tail on fire. The first did not seriously harm the cat, but there is still a small missing patch of fur there.

Wand

32.2 cm Chestnut Wood and Unicorn Hair

This is a most curious, multi-faceted wood, which varies greatly in its character depending on the wand core, and takes a great deal of color from the personality that possesses it. The wand of chestnut is attracted to witches and wizards who are skilled tamers of magical beasts, those who possess great gifts in Herbology, and those who are natural fliers.

Journal

Chaleur keeps a daily journal for to keep herself and her goals organized.
