More than just a professor
The first floor corridor of Hogwarts was one of the most popular corridors as there were other subjects that most of the students attended. Granted, most of the students always pass by her classroom, which is why she was not expecting a knock at her door. Actually, Maya did not hear a knock on her door.
Oops! Be careful. Maya could have been at her desk. Having you state where she is located is a form of godmodding. I'll go with it for now, but try to be careful with how you write about another character.
Maya was sitting on her couch, reading a horror book that was to her liking. She loved the thrill of horror stories through reading rather than through the movies. It let her creativity and imagination run wild. As Maya flipped through the next page, she saw the door of her classroom open and a small child walk in.
The little girl introduced herself right away. Maya crossed her legs and looked at the little girl, scanning her. Was she troubled? Did she need help? Was she bored? What would be the reason for someone who was not a student of Muggle Studies to enter her classroom.
"I am Professor Galim. What brings you into the Muggle Studies classroom, Miss Crowdy?" she asked, straight to the point. Maya was not a woman who danced idly around a topic. Maybe she mistepped and walked into the wrong classroom, who knows?

More than just a professor
There were always a small handful of children who come from different backgrounds that wanted to know more about the Muggle society. It seemed to Maya that Ginger Crowdy was one of those small handfuls. She wanted to learn more about Muggle Studies as a whole, however. There was no specific thing she wanted to learn about which made Maya wonder.
I wonder if she is a Pure-Blood she wondered. Or perhaps a wizard-born for her to want to know so much. It was the only logical explanation to a child's want to know more about a different society or culture.
"If you want to learn about Muggle Studies as a whole, it is best to wait your third year and take my class as an elective, Miss Crowdy," she said, putting her horror book down on the couch's armchair. "Have a seat," she offered, pointing to the other side of the couch. It was where most of her guests sat.
"I can, however, tell you something you're interested about in the muggle world," she shrugged, wondering if there was something specific that Ginger was looking for. Some children have always wondered about muggle sports, muggle technology and more. She wondered what was on the mind of this first year Ravenclaw.
