Justin Whiteley comes from a long line of pure-blood wizards. His parents lived in Lavelanet, France, before they moved to England. Lavelanet is a small commune in the south of France. As a more rural region, it was easier for his pureblood parents to fit in without attracting too much suspicion. Justin was born there in 2008, and lived there for 6 years, attending Primary School Lamartine before his family moved to Sheffield, England. There he was given a private tutor instead of going to a muggle school, because his parents were worried about him finding it difficult to work with muggle technology. Both his parents, James and Lauren Whiteley, had studied at Beauxbatons, and this was the first time his mother had left her country. Justin has an aunt in Sunderland, who they usually visit in the holidays.
His brother, Lance, was 8 years older than him, and was also born in Lavelanet. He started at Hogwarts in 2011, and was sorted into Gryffindor. He graduated after completing all 7 years in 2018, 2 years before Justin joined, and joined the Ministry of Magic where he now works as an Auror. Both his parents are accomplished witches and wizards in their own right. 6 years after Lance was born, they moved to Lavelanet (2006). In 2010, Lance moved out to live with their aunt in Sheffield. When he was , they got two small back kittens named Tommy and Tuppence. Justin was especially close to Tuppence, by far the worst behaved.
The family is moderately wealthy, and appears respectable and well-off to Muggles.
Since he came from a pure-blood family, Justinβs parents had no doubt that he would display magical abilities. The first time he did prove this was true was after school when he was 6. Though he was normally easygoing, he did get a few enemies at school. Once, as he and his best friend Theo were walking back home, one of them cornered them. When he hit Theo, who was not particularly well built, he collapsed, clutching his face. Justin flew into a rage. A large light above them suddenly creaked loudly and fell. No-one was seriously injured by the βaccidentβ.
Although this was eventually revealed to be his first instance of magic, no-one actually noticed it. The first time any magic he performed was identified as such was 1 year later when someone hid his treasured teddy-bear and the plumbing exploded.
