Ice Cream and New Friends
Waiting for @Olivia Ludwig
The birds were chirping, the streets were filled with wizards, and it couldn't have been a more perfect day to do school shopping for Hogwarts. But Melody stood outside the Ice Cream parlor, licking a chocolate cone. Shopping was fun, but what was better than eating ice cream on a bench? There simply was nothing better, Melody thought as she crunched on her waffle cone. Her legs swung from the bench, wearing long boy's shorts, and her t shirt kept ruffling and wrinkling in the wind. She stared across at the different signs, peering at some of the odd shops. She knew that she probably only had heard of half of Diagon Alley's places.
Melody continued to eat her ice cream delicately, feeling the sun warm her pale skin. She needed sunshine, that was for sure, and she wished she knew some of the people there, but was too shy to go up and talk to anybody. She looked across at a girl on the right of her but didn't dare go up to her, she had probably come with her friends. Melody sighed and leaned back against the bench. She heard the bell ding to the right and turned to see a small family opening the door, with two little kids who seemed to be complaining to their mother about something. That made Melody giggle.
The ice cream started to drip down her hand and Melody's smile vanished, replaced with a look of disgust. If there was anything worse to her than rude people, it would be being messy. She simply couldn't stand to stain or spill anything. She shuddered and wiped it off on her jean shorts, which she knew her mother would make her regret later, but she shrugged and continued to swing her legs and scuff her bare feet on the gray brick road.

Ice Cream and New Friends
As I sat there with my ice cream cone in my hand, I was just looking around enjoying the outdoors and thinking how much I loved the outdoors. I felt someone or something touch my leg and it happened to be a wizard that accidently gotten pushed into me. He said sorry and then continued walking. All the shops here were so cool and it would be lovely to explore them all someday but there were so many, I have only looked in a few when I first arrived at Hogwarts.
I saw a girl sitting on the other side of the bench, I saw her glance but didn't say anything. I wanted to say hi but I figured she was probably waiting on someone. I heard the bell ding and looked over to see a small family walking in. I heard the girl giggle a little bit.
After a couple minutes of just sitting there licking my ice cream cone that was starting to melt, so I walked over to get a napkin so it didn't get on my hand. I was wondering if I should go say hi to the girl or not. After a few minutes of deciding I decided to get up and say hi to her! I got up and walked over and said "Hi, my name is Olivia!" with a smile on my face!

Melody looked up to see the girl she had been looking at introducing herself with a smile on her face. "Hi, my name is Olivia!" She said, and Melody smiled back, her face pink a bit. The girl seemed cheerful, and she had an ice cream cone as well. That meant she had good taste, for sure. Anyone who liked ice cream was an automatic check in Melody's book.
"I'm Melody," she beamed, nodding to the girl and tucking a loose strand of brown hair behind her ear. She really did hope the girl would stay to talk, as she hadn't made many friends yet. She had just been shopping around with her mother, Emily, who had gone to look for a new broom or something like that, and had given Melody a few spare galleons to spend on ice cream.
Melody patted the seat beside her on the dark painted bench, offering the girl, Oliva, was her name, to take a seat. She licked her ice cream and looked over to Gringotts in the distance, the tall beige building as crooked and busy as ever. Its windows were lit, as well as several other shops' on the block. Lanterns lit up the streets and illuminated Melody's face as well as the sun. She smiled at the warmth and rubbed her sweaty hands on her shorts, they always seemed to get sweaty when she was nervous, which was almost all of the time.
A bird dived close to Melody's head and she jumped back, spilling her cone all over her lap. She covered her mouth with a pale hand, frosty eyes wide in shock. Mum is going to be so mad.. She thought as she hastily attempted to wipe her lap, before looking back to Olivia with a sheepish grin on her face. She hated to be messy, and here she was spilling her entire ice cream cone.
"Oops.."

Melody shifted her seat guiltily and rubbed the back of her neck, which she could feel was warm and a bright red. She resisted the urge to groan. She finally met someone who seemed to nice enough to talk to, and she spilled all over her lap. What a terrible first impression.
"Um.. no.." She started, "that's okay.. I'll just.. use my shirt.." Melody tried to mop up the sticky, sweet cream that was covering her pants, but it was no use. It stayed there. She sighed, her face looking like a beet. She had never been more embarrassed, and that included the time when she had broken a glass of water in front of her parents' muggle friends.
Melody bit her lip and looked up at Olivia. "On second thought.." she laughed nervously, "maybe I do need those napkins.." She pulled her hair behind her head and tied it into a braid, as it had been brushing the cream and getting sticky. She wished she knew some sort of magic to clean it up, and she was sure her mum would be able to wave her wand and the cream would all vanish, but since she was out shopping for a broom, napkins would have to do.
Melody pulled her legs up and crossed them underneath her, finishing the remaining waffle cone of her ice cream. If only she knew magic, she thought as she placed her face in her hands, groaning and feeling the cream drip down her legs. What a mess she had made, and there was nowhere near that she could wash. What a mess indeed.

Melody waited for Olivia nervously as she went to get the napkins, willing for her to hurry up so that her mum wouldn't come back and see her as a mess like she was. She figured that would probably be better, because her mum could probably clean it up with a simple spell, but she still didn't want to get in trouble because she did not want to see her mum mad.
Footsteps hit the path and Melody looked up to see Olivia with a handful of napkins. She sighed in relief, as her life had been saved from her mother. "Thanks," Melody took the napkins and hastily began scrubbing away at the denim for dear life, where most of the cream started to rub off. She repeated that for a few minutes until finally her shorts were as clean as she could get them, only the faintest sign of a stain was left over.
"This will be good, I really don't need any more," Melody smiled up at Olivia, crumpling the used napkins into her balled fist. She wasn't sure where she could throw them away, but she didn't want to make Olivia do anymore so she tucked them away in an empty bag she had brought, hoping that her mum wouldn't find them down there. Melody was not typically one to be messy, and it was most embarrassing for her to be caught in that situation.
"Thank you again," Melody said gratefully, picking at a button on her shorts. She didn't know what she would have done if Olivia hadn't been there, she would probably have had to face the wrath of her mother. She was well aware of the stares she had gotten with her shorts covered in cream, but at least those people had moved along now.
Melody wondered why Olivia had helped her anyway, but she was happy all the same. Nothing was better than having someone to talk to on a good day. Nothing. Well, maybe not spilling an ice cream cone on your lap, but Melody brushed that off.
