Amethyst and Alex celebrate their first birthday, and Amethyst gets a stuffed, brown book and her now favorite book, A History of Magic.

Amethyst shows her first sign of magic at 4 years old: she sets her sister's book on fire. Her sister, Alex, cries loudly and their father rushes up the stairs to put the fire out. Amethyst claims she did not have any intention on setting on her sister's book on fire. Her father did not know her first sign of magic would happen when she was so young.

more often to Quidditch games, since Amy and Alex both liked their first game.

Amethyst plays her first game of wizard's chess with her dad. She won by a close one. She also likes to play the game years later.

According to Olivander when Amethyst first received her wand, he had said:
"Pliable, very balanced, that excels at healing spells as well as at hexes."
Cherry Wood
Requires a user with exceptional self-control and strength of mind, as Cherry wands can posses truly lethal power.
"This very rare wand wood creates a wand of strange power, most highly prized by the wizarding students of the school of Mahoutokoro in Japan, where those who own cherry wands have special prestige. The Western wand-purchaser should dispel from their minds any notion that the pink blossom of the living tree makes for a frivolous or merely ornamental wand, for cherry wood often makes a wand that possesses truly lethal power, whatever the core, but if teamed with dragon heartstring, the wand ought never to be teamed with a wizard without exceptional self-control and strength of mind."
Dragon Heartstring
Produces the wands with the most power, and the quickest to learn new spells. However, they can change allegiance if won from their master, and are the most prone to accidents.
"As a rule, dragon heartstrings produce wands with the most power, and which are capable of the most flamboyant spells. Dragon wands tend to learn more quickly than other types. While they can change allegiance if won from their original master, they always bond strongly with the current owner.
The dragon wand tends to be easiest to turn to the Dark Arts, though it will not incline that way of its own accord. It is also the most prone of the three cores to accidents, being somewhat temperamental."
