A Much Needed Talk
A few days had past since the incident in the great hall, and the young Ravenclaw boy was still shaken up. He remembered the look on his friend's face as she had run out of the hall, and couldn't imagine how she was feeling. He had managed to get her attention yesterday and had asked her to meet him in the courtyard. He wanted to talk about what had happened because he was worried about his friend and wanted to help her. Of course, he wasn't exactly sure how but he was going to try anyway.
Maverick found his way to the courtyard, and made his way over to one of the benches. There weren't a lot of students out currently, which would probably be better for when the two talked. He wasn't even sure the Gryffindor girl would show up since he had just asked her to see him in the courtyard today and then left. He leaned back against the old stone walls as the memories of the great hall swirled in his head. He balled his hands up into fist, angry and upset that Haley's own mother could do something like that to her. Haley was so lovely, she didn't deserve something like that to happen to her.
Of course, the boy had his own questions, mostly being the statement about the girl being a parselmouth. It didn't really matter to him, she was still his friend and nothing would change that but he was just curious. Comforting and trying to help his friend would come first, even if his questions were never answered. All he had to do now was wait though.

It had only been a few days since Haley had received the howler from her mother, but a lot had changed since then. Not only did she avoid other students, who increasingly put their heads together when they saw Haley, but also her own friends. The fear of their reactions was too great. She didn't want to lose any of them, but she was afraid that they would see her differently now. That they would no longer see her as the Haley she was. And one of those friends was Maverick.
She avoided them all as best she could. She only passed through the common room. In the dormitory she pretended to be asleep when someone came in or she had drawn the curtains on her bed. She was hardly seen at meals in the main hall any more, she only went there when most people had already finished. As soon as class was over, she left the classroom so quickly that she was already out of sight when the others left the room. Still, Mav had managed to catch her yesterday. He didn't say much, just that she should meet him in the Courtyard today.
Haley had thought long and hard about coming. She could have just ignored it, but she didn't. It wouldn't be fair and she owed it to him. But not only was Mav there when she received the howler, he didn't know until then that Haley was a Parselmouth. She had never told him and now she was afraid not only that he would think differently of her, but also that he would resent her for never telling him. She didn't do it for any particular reason, she would have told him eventually but she also didn't think about her talent every minute. At least until now, because since a few days she was reminded of it with every step and with the looks of the others.
But Mav had become one of her closest friends in a short time and so now she stood nervously in the Courtyard and could see him sitting on a bench from afar. Now was her chance to back out, Haley thought, but forced her legs to move. And a few steps later she had arrived at the bench.
She sat down next to him, looking down. She just couldn't look him in the face, too afraid that she might see upset, anger or even fear in his expression. She nervously spat with her hands and cleared her throat, "Hey Mav."

A Much Needed Talk
Sometime had passes and he began to wonder if the Gryffindor girl had decided against coming out to talk. That is until he felt movement beside him and heard a familiar voice say hi. He looked to his side to see Haley sitting besides him, her face aimed downwards. She didn't look at him when she talked, he couldn't help but wonder why but then realized something. Ever since the Howler, so many people had been strange and whispering about it. She was probably worried that he also was with the others and thought differently about her.
"Hello Haley," he said quietly, looking at her and doing his best to give a comforting smile. "How have you been," he started but realized that it probably was pretty obvious, "sorry, that was probably a dumb question." He wanted to lighten the mood somehow but he wasn't sure how to. He knew his friend was hurting and he wasn't sure there was anything he could do. Of course, that doesn't mean he was just going to give up.
"Haley..." he started once again, not sure how to word what he was going to say. " Haley we're going to help you figure this out, it's not fair what happened and it's not your fault. I don't know how exactly, but I'm going to do my best to help you. You're not alone in this Haley Rose," he continued, deciding that it would just be better to get it all out now, hoping it could give the ginger girl even just a little comfort. No one hurt his friends, he wasn't just going to let her deal with this on her own.

A Much Needed Talk

@Maverick AnwyllHaley was so excited when she sat down next to her friend. Her palms were sweaty and she had an uneasy feeling in her stomach. Even when Mav greeted her, she couldn't bring herself to look him in the face. She couldn't explain it, it was as if she was terrified that he was now looking at her differently than usual and in a way she was ashamed of herself. It was silly but it was all still so fresh and it was pure emotional chaos inside her.
Haley was glad that Mav himself realised that it had been a stupid question but had to grin at his remark. And that was the moment she finally looked up and turned her head to her friend. A friend she wasn't sure if he was still a friend until now. But even that was silly, only she herself did not have that realisation. Not until that moment when her gaze caught Maverick's and she realised that nothing had changed. Not only that, but his behaviour and words were an indication of it. Why would he have wanted to meet with her or ask how she was doing if he really wanted nothing more to do with her.
Haley was now looking at him as he spoke. And in that moment she felt safe. She felt like she was finally close to someone who wouldn't judge her, who wouldn't cause her further harm, and who would help her through this time. And not only Mav would be there for her, but her other friends too, if only she would let them. But tears came to her eyes at these words. It was as if the wall around her was breaking down and all the emotions were now hitting her with full force. The accusations from her mother, the accusation that she was to blame for Ian's fight, the rumours and stares from the other students. But it wasn't just the negative feelings that were crashing in on her, the positive ones too. The knowledge that her friends had her back. That they were there for Haley and still saw her as the Haley Rose she was.
She couldn't continue to be strong. The tears gathered more and more in her eyes until they found their way down her cheeks all by themselves, running down her face and dripping onto her legs. Haley didn't know what to say, so she stormily moved closer to her friend and took him into a hug. "Thank you." Were the only words she managed to sob out. Tears were running faster and faster down her face now, wetting Mav's top. There was so much she wanted to say to him, but the only thing that came from her was the quiet sobbing that grew louder and louder.

A Much Needed Talk
Maverick watched as the Gryffindor girl's gaze locked with his as he finished talking. He couldn't tell whether his words and gotten through until he saw tears start to run down her cheeks. He panicked slightly, wondering if he had done something wrong until he saw the girl launched toward him, embracing him in a hug. He was at first surprised and wasn't sure what to do but soon returned the hug. Though it was slightly hard to hear between the girl's sobs he could hear her thank him, which he nodded slightly to.
He started to rub small circles on her back, hoping that maybe it would calm her down some. He could feel as his shirt slowly became wetter but he didn't mind, if she needed to cry then he would let her. "It's going to be ok," he said quietly, doing his best to comfort his friend, "I'm not going anywhere, I promise you." He couldn't possibly imagine the thoughts that had been running through her head throughout all of this. He himself had been shaken from the event and the letter hadn't even been for him.

A Much Needed Talk

@Maverick AnwyllHaley was uncomfortable that she was sitting here and had started to cry, but she couldn't hold back the feelings anymore. It was all still so fresh, but she was also glad that Mav was there for her. She sobbed a few more times and didn't let go of the hug. It was as if she was safe there, as if she was invisible there and could escape reality for a moment. But she knew that it was not so. That she was still here and only temporarily closed her eyes to this reality. So after some time she broke free from the embrace and gave her friend a grateful look.
"Thank you." She said as she wiped the tears from her face. Her eyes fell on the wet spot on his top and she had to giggle a little. "I'm sorry about that." She laughed as she pointed to the stain. But as quickly as her laughter was there, it was gone. She pulled her legs up onto the bench and propped her arms on her knees, resting her head in her hands. She still didn't really know what to say. There was way too much going through her head, too many thoughts and too many feelings. She buried her fingers in her hair and took one deep breath before lifting her head again and looking at Maverick.
Her tears had dried by now, but the more she thought about the whole situation, the more liquid gathered in her eyes again. But she didn't want to cry, she wanted to be strong. She rested her head on her knees now but this time so that her gaze was directed to Mav. "I don't even know what to say." She laughed at herself now, but it was the truth. But where should she have started? She thought for a moment and then decided to just start at the beginning.
"I haven't known I'm a Parselmouth for very long myself," Haley began to tell her story, "I only found out here at Hogwarts and believe me, it's been a roller coaster ride with lots of ups and downs." She thought back to all the moments, the high when she found out about this extraordinary talent, the high when she was in the Chamber of Secrets for the first time, the low when Ian was in a coma, the low when she didn't want to hear any more of the whole Parsel stuff, the high when she confessed who she was again, the low when she received the Howler from her mother, the low when so many students looked at her with fear in their eyes. "Not many knew, but I never wanted to make a secret of it. I just wanted to decide for myself who to tell and when." Continued Haley, and she felt the anger against her mother coming back. And with that anger came tears, slowly but surely fighting their way back down her cheek. "I hadn't told my mother either, but she had found out and you know the rest. Great Hall, Howler, and by now probably every third person knows." Her hands formed into fists, such was the anger towards her mother, "Not only did she expose me, but she took away my power. The power to decide who knows and who doesn't." And at that sentence, she looked directly into Maverick's eyes with her eyebrows drawn together. Her gaze radiated anger and sadness and the tears multiplied again.
She wiped the tears from her face with a quick, almost aggressive hand gesture. "But you know what's the worst? All the stares, all the whispers and all the rumors about me. But even worse is the fear of my friends' reaction." And at these words she glanced fleetingly at Mav and averted her eyes again, ashamed. "The fear that they will look at me differently now. That I'm a different person to them now, or that they don't want anything to do with me anymore." During this sentence a fat lump formed in her throat, which did not allow her to continue speaking and so she fell silent.

Haley had eventually backed away from the embrace, commenting on the wet stain now on his shirt. He looked down and laughed slightly but stopped once he looked back up at his friend's face. He could tell she was still upset and fighting back tears, which he completely understood. If he was in her shoes, he probably would have just hid in his dorm so he had a lot of respect for the Gryffindor girl in front of him.
The girl went quiet for a while and he just hoped that crying had helped a little bit. Eventually, Haley started talking again, explaining her situation and how she was feeling. He nodded along with what she said, all of his attention on the girl in front of him. He could feel her anger and sadness just radiating off of her. He couldn't forgive her mother for doing this to her, it was unfair because she had completely taken all of Haley's power in the situation. He clenched his fists but loosened them quickly as she brought up the reactions of her friends. He was sad that she thought her friends would turn on her, but understood it as well.
" Haley I don't blame you for anything, you had every right to keep your secret until you felt comfortable about revealing it. She had no right to do that to you," He said sternly, his eyes becoming dark but softening quickly. "I can't imagine how hard this is for you but I do know one thing." he started, smiling slightly, " You're far braver and stronger then you think you are. You will be able to get through this and take matters into your own hands again. If I was in your shoes, I probably would be hiding away in my room away from everyone and thing. You didn't do that though, you're still here and facing people, and that's amazing."
He hesitated for a second but gently placed his hand on her shoulder. "I'm going to help you with what ever you need and I'm sure your other friends will help you out as well. I'm not going anywhere I promise, you're my friend and nothing will change that.

Haley realised that her fears were unfounded and that she could be grateful for having such great friends. She felt a little silly that she really had all these concerns and kept it all bottled up instead of asking her friends for help, but the fear of rejection was just too great. But even if one of her friends had rejected her, it wouldn't have been a real friend or someone Haley wouldn't want to be friends with.
But Mav wasn't like that. He had become such a good friend in such a short time and she was glad he had sought out conversation with her. And even at that moment, she was incredibly grateful for him and his words. She wiped the last tears from her face and looked at him with a mixed look of sadness, joy and gratitude. "Thank you Maverick. I really appreciate it!"
She paused for a moment thinking about his words and finally said just a few words that nevertheless had a lot of meaning. "I'm glad you're my friend." And with those words she smiled at him. "It was foolish of me to fear that my friends would turn their backs on me." She looked at him apologetically now, hoping really hard that he wouldn't hold it against her.
"And to be honest, I actually like this particular talent. It's just that it's such a conflict again. I'm afraid it's something bad and I could really cause someone harm with it. Like it happened with Ian." She let the air out of her nose in a long breath and slumped her shoulders, "But I guess that thing with Ian was just a stupid argument." She tried not to blame herself for it any further. Even if her mother did. Even though her father had taken those words back on her behalf, it still bothered Haley and she didn't know how to forgive her mother for it again.
"And the fact that I can talk to snakes is kind of pretty cool too." She laughed for the first time now as it was her normal behaviour and tried to lighten the mood a bit She didn't want to waste the time crying and tried to see the good things.
