Aeron Frey — Second Year — Ravenclaw

Appearance:Amazingly, Aeron looks very much how a boy his age should look— if you’re sourcing your ideas from storybook clichés and narrow standards of beauty. There’s something pleasantly familiar about him. With his pale gold hair and ice blue eyes, he looks like a Tuke painting, or a Malkin’s model. He’s perfectly average in height, his build proportionate, his features pleasingly neat and symmetrical. Anyone with relevant experience or exposure can see the veela heritage behind this apparent perfection.
Personality:Physically, Aeron would be well equipped to succeed in the popularity contest called School— but all that promise comes to a screeching halt when you factor in his personality. It’s not that he’s unpleasant! He’s not rude or mean or crass— in fact he’s very polite. Too polite, too formal to come off as really warm. Perhaps his first year at Hogwarts will wash away some of this reserve. At the moment, he’s a quiet, serious young man. Always observant, always interested, but inexperienced and unsure how to interact with his peers.

🙦·Background·🙤
First Instance of Magic:
Aeron’s first noted use of magic was when he was about two years old. His mother was abroad that evening, starring in the new french production of Circe, and Aeron was inconsolable. The nanny, struggling to get him to sleep, tuned the nursery radio to catch the opera’s live broadcast on WWN— and marveled at how Aeron instantly quieted at the sound of his mother’s voice… and magically spun the volume up.
Pre-Hogwarts History
Aeron was born into the heart of the magical world, the end product in a complex web of magical lineages. His parents married for the proper maintenance of their proud bloodlines, rather than love, but he has had no cause for complaint. That he would attend Hogwarts was never in doubt. While there are some that say the Frey are not a pure as they claim — honestly, who is these days? — they hadn’t thrown out a squib in centuries.
The most remarkable thing about his early life has been his unique upbringing as the child of two immensely charming parents: his father, Caspian Frey, a part-veela wizard; his mother, Lysandra Frey, darling of the opera* stage.
From his father, he learned a certain restraint and poise. Well aware of the emotional tendencies of the veela and the stigma of being less-than-human, all the Frey raise their children to cultivate a certain reserve. They aim to be eminently human, though some find them eminently boring. That they are beautiful is undeniable, particularly those benefiting from a more recent infusion of veela blood, but everything in their upbringing — Aeron’s upbringing — focuses on restraining the bulk of those gifts.
On the other hand, there has been his mother, Lysandra Frey. Renown for her beautiful singing voice, marvelous stage presence and stunningly good looks. Enormously talented, alarmingly famous, completely human. Growing up, Aeron was quickly sensitized to the difference between veela magic and the ineffable, unfakeable, completely mundane force that is charisma.
All in all, Aeron is well aware that attraction born of veela magic is a transient, ephemeral thing. The feelings come and go as the magic does. The desire to impress, the desire to love— none of it matters. None of it's real. Not when he compares it to the effect his mother has on people. He is deeply unimpressed with his veela allure and the feelings and attention it engenders.* Wizarding Opera:
Though there are certainly those that prefer the more modern stylings of Celestina Warbeck and the Weird Sisters, opera continues to thrive in wizarding world. It benefits greatly from magical translation aids and extra-ordinary special effects— and also from the pureblood attachment to tradition and history. As one of the medium’s superstars, Lysandra Frey can be heard regularly on the WWN, and seen in magazines such as Witch Weekly.

⤛ A brief overview of the Noble House of Frey ⤜Reducio[font=Old English Text MT
]Starc Giboran[/font], so proclaims Frey family crest in the High German of old. Born Strong. More colloquially it is boasted: There is no mud in Frey blood.
The statements are bold, provocative— and debatably true. The Frey are noted, even by their critics, for not having thrown out a squib in centuries. Arguably proof positive of the inherent potency of the bloodline. As for the mud, well. The muggle-lovers of the wizarding world may blanch at such frank speech, but it is also well known that the Frey have, in those same centuries, strictly avoided sullying their noble line with those sorry creatures completely devoid of magic— muggles.
How do they achieve such exceptional results, you may ask? Well, it's an open secret in wizarding high society. While their fellow purebloods contort themselves into increasingly consanguineous knots, sneaking muggle-borns on to their tree as much as they dare in order to stave off the worst of the deformities and deficiencies, the Frey have branched out into… new waters.
They say it's part of a storied history, a familial legacy. They cite an ancestor from antiquity that supposedly lay with a siren in Messina and lived. They claim a heritage that spans the ages and a spread of magical beings that spans the continent. Nixies, selkies, melusine, rusalka— veela. Whatever the veracity of the others, the veela is certainly true. For centuries now, when the wizard-born marriage prospects have seemed too weak, or incestuous, or muddied, the Frey have sought the beautiful, dangerous, magicial beings in the remote waterways of Europe.
Not all purebloods are accepting of their methods. Some of their witty detractors quip that that laying with watery tarts in lakes isn't a sound system for magical offspring, but the Frey have been pleased with their results thus far. They bridle at the term halfbreed and consider themselves pureblood— more pure than most that wear the name today. Better a veela than a muggle, they say. Better magic with magic, than magic with mud.
