There was something wrong with Ashley. At least, that's what she told herself. She was happy, so, so happy. No, happy wasn't the right word. She was delighted, carefree, floating on the top of the world. It wasn't that she was usually unhappy. She just tended to be more reserved and focused, always believing that school was the most important thing, that she should devote herself entirely to her studies. And when she was happy like this, she always had a reason. Ashley had reasons for everything. But tonight, she didn't. Tonight, she felt as though she could do anything, that the world was beautiful and perfect and everything was right. She couldn't for the life of her figure out why. She wasn't in love (at least, not that she knew of). She had not received wonderful news, she had not been hit on the head so she was delirious, and she had not gotten an amazing score on a hard test. The only reason she could come up with for why she felt this way was that she was happy to be alive, which was as good of a reason as any.
Ashley sat by the window in the common room, a silly grin spread over her face. It was six o'clock, and the sun had set and the world was growing dark. The moon was a perfect half-circle, and it bathed everything below in a silver glow. The air was still but cool, only the tiniest breeze ruffling gently through the branches of the big, ancient trees. Ashley couldn't take it any longer. She ran up to the dormitories and threw on a short, casual white dress that was very different from what she usually wore. Come to think of it, she didn't even know why she owned a dress. It was crumpled in the bottom of her trunk beneath a large, neatly folded stack of jeans and hoodies. She really was going insane. But whatever. Ashley left her flaming red hair loose and threw on a pair of sneakers before running down the stairs and out the doors leading outside. She kept running just for the heck of it before stopping in a little clearing inside of a circle of trees, spinning and humming quietly to herself. Ashley's practical side screamed at her to go inside. Why the heck are you outside in the dark, wearing a freaking dress and dancing?! You hate dancing! And dresses! This goes against basically everything in our code!!! You need to go get help or something!!! Is our brain releasing too many endorphins?! Are we gonna die?! Logical Ashley shrieked. Reckless, delighted, carefree Ashley ignored Wise, Smart, Logical Ashley and kept spinning, letting everything around her blur into a sea of black and blue and purple and green and silver. Her ridiculously un-Ashley-like dress and wild hair billowed around her and she felt more free than she had in months as her worries flew away from her body as she spun. In that moment, she didn't care about anything but the wind rushing against her face and the soft, silky fabric of her dress flitting over her legs. She was crazy, insane, reckless and elated. And she honestly didn't care who knew it.

Ashley felt the air grow cooler on her bare arms. She was so filled with pent-up delight that she didn't hear the soft footsteps and sense the air of happiness dim at first. She was still lost in her own little world of unwavering perfection. Presently, though, she became aware of another presence that was not her own. Ashley stopped spinning, feeling slightly dizzy but not pukey. She looked around, but saw nothing but trees and the Hogwarts Castle and the Great Lake a little ways away. She furrowed her eyebrows. Someone was there. She didn't know how she knew. She could just feel it.
"Hello?" she called softly. No one answered her. Ashley shivered. It was getting cold, and close to curfew. She really should go inside soon, but . . . someone was there. And she wanted to know who. Ashley tied her red hair into a sloppy ponytail and proceded to search the area carefully. A soft sob reached Ashleys' ears. She stopped. It was coming from behind a large, gnarled tree a few yards away. Ashley tiptoes closer. Should she say something? Maybe. maybe not. She decided to go with it. Ashley walked a little closer before stopping.
"Hi. Are you okay?" she whispered. No answer. Ashley crept closer until she could make out a familiar head of bright pink hair. Ginger. "Ginger? What's wrong?" Ashley asked in what she hoped was a gentle and soothing voice. She sat down beside the other girl, her fellow Ravenclaw. "You don't have to talk to me. But you can. I mean, if you want," Ashley stammered. She wasn't sure what to do. Should she hug her? Give her some space? Ashley looked down and bit her lip, twisting her fingers together, wishing that talking to people, especially in serious situations, would come more easily to her.

Laura was sitting on the Hogwarts grounds waiting for company. Laura was usually on her own no one ever really talked to her so she often talked to herself. She was just dancing and not really thinking about what was going on. She usually danced to get all the bad emotion out of her. Then she saw 2 girls sitting together one was crying and Laura wondered if she was ok so she walked over. "Hi, I'm Laura who are you" she asked and then continued "What's wrong you look really look sad" she finished looking worriedly at the crying girl. Laura didn't really know what to say to make the girl feel better, but she didn't think anything would work she looked so sad. Laura was very sad too because today was the anniversary when her baby sister died after being born Laura tried to keep a strait face though. Laura grabbed her backpack and pulled out a watch after reading it she put in her bag and put it back on the floor. Laura began playing with her fingers not knowing what to say, she didn't know what was wrong with the crying girl why she was upset, but she looked very sad so Laura felt sorry for her.

The worlds tough, but so are you
