Bailey decided that it was time for her to again practice her Takewondo form, lest she get out of practice. With her practice sword at her side, and her uniform on, she walked the rest of the way to the ballroom, caring her bag of gear at her side.

Stretching she that she wouldn't pull a muscle, Bailey went thru her normal, pre-Takewondo ritual. Arm and leg swings, pushups, sit-ups, plank, all sorts of things.

Whew. Bailey breathed out. Jumbee. And start. Bailey thought. She started her form. At her first karate yell, she almost fell. Since her form was mainly based on balance, this was explainable.

Once done with her form, Bailey bowed, and went to get a drink of water. The water was very refreshing, and quickly disappeared. Since her water was gone, Bailey went back to her form, this time working on certain parts at a time. "Hia!" She yelled, jump kicking the air. The next time she wrote her mom, bailey decided that she would ask her to send a pop up muggle punching bag, or one of her pads.

Taking a break from her form, Bailey started on her sword routine. Swinging her sword around, Bailey heard a voice, speaking to her from the entrance of the Ballroom.

It had been a rather quiet morning. Her homework was finished and there was nothing out of the ordinary happening that day. Normally, Ashley liked days like this, days where she had nothing to do and could simply read and write, tucked away by herself in the corner of the Common Room or on a hidden bench out in the Grounds. But today, for whatever reason, she was restless. After sitting on a chair in the Common room, looking out the window and fidgeting for quite some time, Ashley stood up. Enough of this, she thought. She was going to get out of this room.
Ashley threw her red hair up into a messy ponytail and straightened her glasses before opening the door and descending the long staircase. The castle was pretty quiet. Many people were in their Common Rooms or outside. The stone walls glowed golden from the torches marching along it, and Ashley's soft footsteps seemed amplified by the large, empty castle. Presently, she heard another voice coming from not too far away. Curious, Ashley walked in the direction that the voice was coming from. she stopped outside the open door that led into the Hogwarts Ballroom. Ashley paused. Inside, a girl with blond hair wearing some kind of uniform and holding a . . . sword?! stood inside, gulping water from a bottle.
The girl didn't appear to notice Ashley. She set her water bottle down and walked back into the middle of the room. "Hiya!" she yelled, kicking her leg high into the air. Ashley took at step back. Whoa. Was she doing some sort of karate? Whatever she was doing, it looked pretty cool. Ashley shifted her weight from one foot to the other. She felt weird just standing here, watching. It was kind of a creepy thing to be doing, really. She tucked her hair behind her ear and cleared her throat awkwardly. "Um, hi. I'm Ashley. If you don't mind me asking, what are you doing? It looks really hard.

Bailey turned around. There was a girl standing there, watching her. "Oh... Hi!" Bailey said. The girl had said her name was.... Bailey wracked her brain. Oh! ya! Ashley! "You said your name was Ashley, correct?" Bailey asked. The girl nodded, as Bailey walked nearer the doorway where the girl stood. "And I was practicing my Takewondo form." Bailey said, to answer Ashley's question. " Before I got my letter to come to Hogwarts, I trained with a Takewondo master in my hometown of Leeds. I didn't want to get out of practice, so I decided to come down here to train a little bit." Worried that she had scared Ashley, bailey continued. "Sorry if I scared you with one of my yells. I knew I should have been quieter." Bailey blushed
Walking still closer to Ashley, Bailey sheathed her sword, quite gracefully. With a quiet "shhhhhhh" it slid in. "Um... Do you know what Takewondo is? Bailey asked. Stopping a couple paces away from Ashley, Bailey continued. "I train- Sorry, trained with a world wide group called ATA. It stands for American Takewondo Association, since that is where it was founded, but we call it Always Take Action, or ATA for short."
Here, Bailey stopped to breath. Still a little out of breath from her exertions, she sucked in a breath and let it out again slowly. Turning to Ashley again, she again picked up the conversation. "Are you a Ravenclaw? I think I've seen you in the dorms..." Bailey trailed off. "I can show you some moves, if you like." Bailey offered the girl. Deciding to let Ashley process all that Bailey had told her, Bailey backed off a little.

Ashley blinked. The girl had offered to teach her Taekwondo? She seemed really experienced, like she knew exactly what she was doing, but Ashley wasn't sure if she, given her history with sports, should be doing something that could potentially involve swords without immediate medical care on hand. Ashley just stood there for a second outside of the cavernous ballroom. She decided to answer the simpler question first."Yes, I am a Ravenclaw. Now that you mention it, I think I've seen you around, too. It's Bailey, right? Nice to meet you." Ashley smiled, then looked down at her feet. She didn't want to turn Bailey down on her offer. That was rude. But the truth was that Ashley had no athletic ability at all, and she didn't want to hurt herself, or Bailey. But . . . maybe she should try. She worried too much, she decided. Ashley was going to do it. She was going to try to do Taekwondo without making a mess of herself. And Bailey offered to teach her a few moves, nothing hardcore. After about five conflicting minutes, Ashley smiled at Bailey, tucking her hair behind her ear again. "Okay! I'll try it. But I can't promise I'll be good at it," Ashley laughed. Slowly, she stepped into the large room. "Thanks for doing this, by the way," she said to Bailey.

Looking at Ashley, Bailey noticed her comfortable clothes and thought to herself, Ok. These are good clothes to try out Takewondo in. This might actually work! Speaking out loud this time, Bailey said, "Ok. Ashley, I am going to start you with the beginner's form. It will not be with the sword." At this, Bailey set her sword down by her gear bag.
Moving to the middle of the room, Bailey gestured for Ashley to follow her. "Usually I warm up a little before doing my form, but that's because its so advanced." Bailey said, conversationally. Showing Ashley the "ready stance" or "Jumbee" for Songam One, Bailey felt a spark of fierce pride, in teaching another witch how to defend herself without magic. "Ok. Now I would like you to follow me." Bailey told Ashley. And then Bailey stepped out, and did a high block, with her right arm extended above her head. "Now, step and punch" Bailey instructed Ashley.
In teaching someone, Bailey finds immense pleasure, so it was an honor to teach Ashley. Once Ashley had been shown the first four or five moves of Songam One, Bailey stopped, and said, "Ok! Ashley, that was wonderful. Would you like me to show you the whole entire form? You don't have to do the moves with me, but I think it might help to see the moves also."
With this, Bailey waited for Ashley to decide, wondering how lucky she could have been for Ashley to wander in on her doing her form.

Caught. Caught by whom, though? Caught by a prefect, red-handed in possession of contraband items while on school property likely wasn't what the author had in mind when they wrote this thread, no. No...more than likely, it was the planned intention to be happened upon by a fellow student in the midst of her training. That sort of embarrassed Oh, haha, you cuaght me moment when someone realizes another has happened upon what was initially set out by the character to be a private moment of meditation, personal reflection, or concentrated release. Indeed, Glade had been caught in such a way by miss Coulson. But on this day (which is assumed to be a Tuesday, March 9th given the absence of a date in the opening post to suggest otherwise) Coulson wouldn't be the only one...

It had become something of second nature to Evelynn, to meander past those areas of the castle that had been hers to wander. Although still growing accustomed to her role as Prefect, she had settled into the routine well enough. Her typical routes around Hogwarts had been diverted, slightly. Instead of the shortest path from A to B, she would take effort when reasonable to detour through those halls and past those rooms she was meant to keep an eye on. The fourth floor, in particular, was largely her domain. It was interesting, really, as prior to this year, she'd hardly needed to step foot upon it except to go from the one floor higher or lower to the other.

Classes for the day had come and gone, breaks arriving in time for students to seek a moment's reprieve from the persistent mental stimulation in order to pursue those activities that served as physical outlets. A healthy mind needed a healthy body, after all. Once her homework had been done and duties attended to, even Evelynn would join those numbers, making her way down to the quidditch pitch to get in an ample dose of practice. That time would have to wait, however, until the former were concluded.

In the mean time, she had obligations to attend. Robes flitted around her feet, whispering with each quiet step as she traversed the stone corridor. A creek of a door here, and she would pop her head in briefly to ensure there were no students where they ought not to be. A gentle reveal of a tapestry there to make sure no inappropriate going-ons attempting to be hid from the public. A polite "Good afternoon" to students she passed in the hall. A warm smile to those too shy to reply back. It was a simple task to patrol an area, and to date, she really hadn't been needed to actually do anything. Usually, the presence of a Prefect alone was enough to deter most trouble-making.

As it was, Evelynn almost didn't even notice this day's infarction. The Ballroom and the Rehearsal Rooms were two very widely used rooms in the castle. Expansive, with wide open space, and great acoustics, they were used by students and clubs alike for a great variety of events and activities. It wasn't at all uncommon for Evelynn to patrol by to find someone dancing in the ballroom, or practicing an instrument elsewhere. On this occasion, she noticed two figures. One (Bailey) seemed to be wearing some sort of gi (All martial arts uniforms to her are gis) and demonstrating a few stances at the room's center for the benefit of a second who stood nearby (or perhaps she was following along as she has yet to post). Mundane exercise, and nothing that appears to need to be intervened. Provided that they didn't start sparring.

Making a mental note to make another sweep back into the area and check upon the progress once finished with a task in the Headliner's office, Evelynn moved to retreat. Then noticed the scabbard. And by the visible handle, not an empty one. Eyes narrowing slightly, the prefect entered.

"Good afternoon," she greeted them, head tilting. Boot heels clicked dully with each step, muffled beneath her black robes. It was a somewhat ominous sound that contrasted heavily to the nervous beat of her own heart. "I hope you are both well." Polite introduction, yes. The familiar approach helped to alleviate some of her nerves, and hopefully extended to them that this could be a minor inconvenience for them at best. She wasn't here to ruin a day. Only to enforce the rules. A polished Prefect badge had been pinned to her chest right next to a Quidditch Co-Captain badge of equal luster. "My name is Decipio. Gryffindor Prefect. What are your names?"

She would pause long enough for the girls to acknowledge her presence and offer their own introductions if they complied.

"Is that a sword I see?" With a nudge of her chin, she indicated the scabbard. A few more steps and she came to a stop two paces from Glade. Her palms rested unimposingly, one clasped over the other, against her robes. "As you know--" As she should know, anyway, given the School Rules of which every student was given a copy. "--weapons are not permitted at Hogwarts. Is it an artificial prop? If not, I will have to ask that you hand it to me."

Hello you two. Congratulations on being the first to break a rule since my appointment to Prefect! As soon as this thread was brought to my attention, I will admit I got rather excited. I rolled in the discord channel to see if Evelynn would catch you, and she did. The rule broken here is, of course, the IC possession of a weapon on school property. I want to be clear that this infringement is entirely IC. You are not in trouble OOC. This thread can go a number of ways depending on how your characters react. At minimum, the sword will be confiscated and the Ravenclaw Head of House informed. At most, there may be detentions. If you have any questions, feel free to owl or DM me!

Ashley was freaking out. She was on the verge of hyperventilating as a girl (a PREFECT!!!) walked in, asked for their names, and confronted her and Bailey for having the sword. Ashley hoped it was fake. She had wanted nothing in her life as much as she wanted that sword to be fake. Everything had been going fine up until that point. Ashley hadn't yet hurt herself, and she enjoyed Bailey's company. But now . . . Cold sweat dripped down Ashley's spine. What had the girl asked for again? Her name? Yes, that was it. What was her name again? Ashley could not remember her name - her very own name - for the life of her. It started with an a, right? Ashley stood there, dumbstruck, for a minute before it came to her. Ashley. And she was a Ravenclaw. And a first year. Ashley chanted this in her head so she wouldn't forget before turning to the prefect.
"Uh, m-my name is Ashley? Coulson. Ashley Coulson. First year, Ravenclaw," she stammered, vaguely aware of the fact that her cheeks were practically on fire. Was she going to get detention?! Was she going to get EXPELLED?! Ashley forgot to breathe. She couldn't get expelled. No. Nonononono. The humongous ballroom seemed to grow bigger, threatening to swallow Ashley up. Which, actually, would be better than getting expelled. Ashley had never had a least favorite word. But she had one now. Expelled. She shivered, pushing her glasses up on the bridge of her nose, and prayed even harder (she wasn't religious, so maybe it wasn't as much praying as hoping) that the sword was fake. She glanced at the blade that Bailey carried. It didn't look fake, but you never knew. Ashley leaned closer to Bailey and whispered, "Is the sword fake? Please tell me it's fake."

Great. Bailey thought. I got caught. And by a prefect, no less. At least I'm not doing anything wrong? Bailey thought. At least I don't think I am. My sword is plastic. And fake. Deciding that it was best to tell the trust, the entire truth, and nothing but the truth, Bailey took a deep breath, and quickly whispered to Ashley, "Yes the swords fame. It's plastic. It doesn't even look that real .
Deciding to speak to the prefect instead of getting told off for whispering, Bailey spoke
“Hello! My name is Bailey Glade, and let me assure you that that sword is fake. I just came down here to brush up on my Takewondo” Bailey said, gesturing to her gi. “That sword is real- yes, but it is plastic. Pure plastic. No reason to worry. And Ashley here just walked in on me practicing my form.
Just breath, Bailey. Bailey told herself you have been in way more complex situations. This will be fine.
Though nervous about getting detention, Bailey spoke up. “Um… Prefect Decipio? Or Miss Decipio? Can I keep my sword? It is fake, as I explained earlier, and if I need to I can send it home. And are you going to give us detention? Because if so, I should be the one in detention, not Ashley. Please don’t blame her. It was my fault, she was walked in on me practicing.
leaving that hanging, Bailey decided to quit speaking before she dug herself into a hole she couldn’t get out of.

Like deer in headlights. That was the impression that Evelynn got as she gazed upon the two girls in the centre of the Ballroom. It was strange, really. Only moments before, she had been talking herself down from her rising nerves, adopting a careful step and collected posture in order to try—as best as she might have been able—to hide her own nerves about coming in upon them with an air of authority. And here they were, two first year students, gazing up at her, one stuttering, the other leaning over to whisper to her friend. As though that were all the remedy required, all nervousness seemed to leak from the prefect.

"Glade. Coulson," Evelynn noted, offering each an decline of her chin in acknowledgment. "A shame we could not have met instead under other circumstances."

There was something empowering about her mere presence having had this sort of effect. Intoxicating, in a way. The hint of a smile crept upon her lips to curl them at their corners. In silence, she stood, patient and seemingly undisturbed as the one in the gi concluded her privately shared notions. Brows raised in anticipation when she then returned her attention to Evelynn and spoke.

"I would like to see it, please," Evelynn responded. Her tone was collected and polite, but even behind her pleasant smile, she did not intend for there to be any room for negotiation. It was one thing for a student to say that something was this or that, but another to actually believe them. How could she know that it wasn't actually metallic? Or enchanted to appear plastic while still carrying a sharp and deadly edge? With murderers and hags and only God knew what else on the loose around the castle, Evelynn felt that she couldn't be too careful. A hand peeled from its resting place to reach forward, palm open and upwards. Expectant.

Ok.... This was not what she expected. At least the prefect hadn't 1, sent them to detention or 2, lost her temper and yelled. Deciding it was best to retrieve the sword and prove that it was fake, Bailey walked over to her gear, knelt down on both knees, per Taekwondo custom, and placed the sheathed sword in her belt.
Walking back to Ashley and Miss Decepio, Bailey unsheathed her sword, and held it out, presenting it formally to the prefect.
Her right hand on the grip, her left under the blade of the sword, Bailey bowed, and presented the sword to the prefect.
Once Decipio held the sword in her hands, Bailey stepped away again to a respectful distance, and waited for her to speak.
Ok... You will be fine, Bailey Bailey gave herself a mental pep talk. The sword is real, yes, but it is 100% plastic. It is hollow, and the most dangerous weapon here is your body.
This was true, for Bailey was a second degree black belt, and was fast on her way to her third degree. She had also competed in District championships twice, once in traditional form and once in combat Weapons.
Reciting these facts, Bailey felt calmer, and waited for Decepio to speak.
