It's just a question
February 21, 2021
@Michael Miller@Earl Gray
The Great Hall was crowded, which wasn't really that crazy to consider given the time. Lunch had begun only 4 mintues ago and Michael couldn't eat. A note sat in his pocket, and he was all aware if it's presence. He had reread and rewrote it numerous times, changing little things or big, but it still asked the same thing.
Michael took a deep breath before standing and walking over to the hufflepuff table, passing others on the way to the boy with the soft, pink hair. He smiled and was just going to put the note on the table by Earl, hoping the loudness and busyness of the Hall would make him be overlooked. But as he made it to Earl, the pink haired boy stood, turning and almost being knocked over by the Slytherin boy.
So I know I could should have went up to ask you this, but I didn't want you to feel pressured to say yes, so i wrote you a note instead.
I know we barely know each other, having only met 98 days ago having only just met each other a short time ago, but I think you're amazing and sweet and I was wondering if you would like to go on a date Join me for a picnic one day?
That's all!
With love,
Love

It's just a question
Every time Earl walked in the great hall, he closed his eyes for a moment, letting the noise wrap around him like a blanket. It was comforting to feel the presence of other students so close by, laughing and screaming over each other. Being so close to them never failed to put a smile on his face, and today was no different. Normally, he would have headed towards the other tables to say hi to his friends, but the last couple times he'd done that he'd starved for the rest of the day, seeing as his entire lunch break had been spent on hugs, hello's, and long rambling conversations. A great use of time, but Mocha (and his stomach) were demanding food.
So off to his table he went, stopping by to hug Frosty and Alina before settling down in his seat. Mocha was set on the table beside his plate, and given a handful of dried apricots and raisins to munch on. Our young boy had noticed the tiny fluff had a sweet tooth (much like himself), and was trying to satisfy it.
Everything was perfect. All he still needed was pumpkin juice. Unfortunately, the pitcher was on the other end of the table. Getting up, Earl stretched like a cat, as if the three minutes he'd spent sitting down and piling his plate high with food had been an eternity. And lo and behold, the instant he'd turned around, there was Mic. The tiny boy was red in the face, mumbling about something or other. Before he could finish his train of thought, Earl had thrown his arms around him, hugging him tight. "Oh my god, hiiiii! It's so good to see you!"
Earl was a great hugger. Warm and tiny, joy practically radiating off him in waves. He smelled like peppermint and cinnamon today, his pink hair having white and red highlights in it to match. Normal people would have let go after a couple seconds, but Earl set his head on Mic's shoulder, heart pounding in his chest. It was always so, so good to see the other boy. Mic rarely talked, but he was a good person deep down, and Earl felt safe around him. "Hii...I missed you!"
When they did finally pull apart, Earl looked down to find a piece of paper in his hands. "What this be?" he asked, delicate fingers opening it to find a thin, elegant script spelling out his name. "Oh my gosh I LOVE your handwriting. It's so pretty!!! Matches you, haha"
And the rest of the letter was a mess of crossed outlines and jumbled thoughts. When he'd finished reading it, Earl carefully set it down on the table, allowing Mocha to inspect it before turning to Mic once more. A glittery purple pen somehow appeared into his hand. "Okay, okay, okay what do you think of my hand writing?" the pink fluff asked, uncapping the pen and gently drawing a tiny purple heart on Mic's wrist, with a single word above it. It's just a question
Michael didn't know what he expected when he asked Earl out, he hadn't really thought that fair. He didn't know how he was going to handle a no, or a yes, to be honest. He just knew he didn't want to be told in front of many people either way. So he wrote the note, a way to ask yet keep a distance. He knew Earl wouldn't be mean or offensive, but still, the thought stopped him.
When his note was safely in Earl's hands, and the words read, he thought he could just walk away. Earl can answer later, he'll find me. It didn't happen like that. It was the exact opposite. Earl seemed Eager at his note, happy to see him as well. He complimented his handwriting and Michael flushed red, it had taken him much time to convince himself not to make another one just because of his handwriting.
The other boy grabbed his hand, flipping it over to to write on the upperside. In that time a question was asked, but that he missed, too distracted by what the boy was doing. The feeling of the pen drawing on his skin was weird, but the feeling he got as Earl wrote made him feel giddy and warm.
When he saw the 'yes', he smiled wide, "Maybe we can have the picnic this saturday?" He said, looking up away from the word on his skin only halfway through the sentence.
