Prompt #1

For our first poetry prompt, we are going to write haiku. Haiku is a traditional form of Japanese poetry that is three lines long. The first line is five syllables, the second seven, and the third five syllables again, but yours doesn’t have to be exactly that amount of syllables as long as it is close. Traditionally, haiku is about nature, but you may make a haiku about whatever inspires you; a color, what you had for breakfast, the moon, your dog, a song, a tree outside your window - anything. When you are finished, feel free to post in this thread or keep it to yourself. If you want to make more than one, that’s awesome too! It’s all up to you. I have included some examples of haiku for you to look at before you write your own. Remember - just write about what comes to you! Don’t worry if it’s right or wrong.

There's no rush to complete your haiku, I just had some free time so I'm doing it now.

The grass was blowing,
In the wing,
All was calm and quiet

Flowers 🌸🌺

Blooming in the sun,
Closing with the moon,
Always the beautiful, Flowers

Stale, still, pond of old
A single, lightest of touch

Piercing golden ray
Light through yonder window breaks ¹
Single brand of fire

Farewell, my old friend
I wait for your arrival
To start a new day

Hi, everyone! Today, we will start our very first positive feedback session. Positive feedback, as well as being nice for the writer, is also good for the person giving it! Taking the time to give someone a compliment and focus on the bright side can be very beneficial. This, like the writing, is totally optional, but giving positive feedback is strongly encouraged. For positive feedback, each person who wants to give feedback will choose at least one piece (more than one is allowed!) and read it to themselves. While you're reading, focus on what you liked about the piece. It could be a word choice, the tone the writer uses, the picture it paints in your head, the subject, anything. You can then make a new post here (make sure to tag the person you're giving feedback to!) and type in which piece you are giving feedback for, who wrote it, and why you liked it. Remember - keep it positive! If you don't like something, please refrain from saying so. Here is my feedback for a couple of these pieces:

@Gabriella Haworth, I really liked the last line of your first haiku. The question at the end makes the reader stop and think for a second.

@Calypso Starling, I love your second haiku, especially the first line, 'Ink blots stain my hands.'

@Ashley Coulson I love the theme of your second haiku, especially the last line: "Really? Look deeper." It is beautiful and the message is so great.

@Gabriella Haworth I love the metaphor in your second poem of each of the stars being a possibility, and the third line has a really nice feel. Very whimsical.

@Callista Lovis your third haiku was so sweet and friendship-y!
