Marilyn Williams | First Year | Gryffindor

Born to Amber and Kellan Williams, Marilyn grew up in the farmlands of Shadoxhurst surrounded by trees and fields. From an early age, she's helped her parents and older brother take care of the land - be it fetching tools, collecting eggs from the hens or dragging/carrying bins to the compost piles.

She led an ordinary life until, unbeknownst to her, her first instance of magic. While a bit jealous, her older brother (Anthony) has been supportive (albeit, in his own way by asking her questions that the poor girl doesn't have answers to). Her parents were uncertain at first, but Amber and Kellan have since warmed up to the idea of a witch in the family.

Upon arriving at Hogwarts, to say Marilyn was a tad overwhelmed was an understatement. There are so many amazing things that she's never heard of before (as well as things she overheard from the other students on the train) - things she had only, up until now, thought were just fairy tales in the books she'd read before bed back home.

While she's not entirely sure what the four houses represent as of yet, she's found herself in Gryffindor. Now's the time to put on a tough face and tackle what most children dread: homework. It still sounds like gibberish to her, but it all has a meaning, right? ..Right? She's got a lot to learn.

Marilyn first used magic at the age of 9, when she was out one snowy morning with a basket in hand. Collecting eggs was a simple task, one that young Marilyn was accustomed to do every morning. Else the eggs she'd find would be cracked or broken, and no one wanted that.

Trudging through the snow, Marilyn approached the coop only to be startled as she spotted a fox sneaking out, a hen clamped firmly in its jaws. She didn't think about what happened next, but the sight confused and scared the girl. There was a swirl of snow as both fox and hen were sent suddenly skyward, falling to the ground a distance away, followed by a torrent of snow. The thief ran away without its meal and Marilyn was left trying to explain why she had cleared the chicken's feeding area of snow instead of gathering eggs (and later, why there was a bloody hen in the orchard).

Marilyn is a hard working girl who is loyal to those that call her a friend. She's adventurous and fun loving, though a bit naive and easily excitable. Knowing nothing of the wizarding world before her acceptance letter - Marilyn has been a bundle of excitement.

Though her excitable nature goes both ways - she also has a temper, though she's more likely to groan or huff in frustration, tapping her foot and/or folding her arms before acting out on it - though she is the kind to find some place she can yell (likely into a pillow while at school), though that isn't to say that she won't punch you for being a git if you treat her friends poorly enough.

Marilyn is guileless - valuing honesty and open interactions rather than deception. This, bundled with her naivety leads her to forget that there are "bad people" (moreso that she believes that there is good in everyone). She's more likely to step between a quarrel involving a friend than raise a wand, usually with a smile. She knows it's easy to act on violence - words are harder-

-much.. Much, harder. Lastly, she is insecure - not so much about her "muggle-born" status (blood status doesn't mean a thing to her), but about her lack of knowledge of the wizarding world. Yes there are creatures and the like that if you talk about - the name just sounds like gibberish to the girl, but there are also means of transportation and everyday life to witches and wizards that, to Marilyn, also sound like a bunch of made up words. By no means does it make her "stupid", she's just trying to fo her best to learn more of this world she's suddenly become a part of.
