I and two other users have experienced a thread automatically locking after editing a post.
Alan Vanes and I experienced in the Duelling board and Opeila Winters experienced it with her ency.
I do not know what they were useing but I am on PC with Firefox as my browser.

It is not just editing posts; threads lock automatically upon creating / editing or adding new posts to them and it seems to happen site wide

You can't because they appear locked? (if so, you need to ask an admin to unlock them)
