Damien was nervous to say the least. The Great hall looked magnificent and there was clearly magic everywhere. And yet he couldn't help but feel like he didn't belong. Yes, he had bouts of oddity every now and then. There was even the time he ran away from the foster family before his... current. Once again he had come to a situation where his foster family "couldn't care for him anymore." Or in other words, they didn't want him anymore. His encounter with the hat earlier didn't help his nerves any.

------

Damien shuffled forward when his name was called. "Thorne, Damien" He sat down on the stool, hunched forward nervously as the hat was placed on his head. 'Ah, a Thorne. You family often sits at Slytherin.' He felt the hat invade his mind and memories as it continued to speak in his thoughts. 'Clever, and a need to prove yourself. Slytherin would do you well.'

Damien remembered seeing the Slytherins and how cruel some of them looked. He wasn't too sure he belonged there. 'No, Slytherin doesn't seem like quite the right fit. I see a loyalty in you, Hufflepuff would be proud to call you one of there members. And yet, I think one other calls to you more.'

He remembered how he loved to study history before he learned magic, how the moment he got his books he studied them as much as he could. He could see where the hat was going. The house of the intelligent. 'Yes indeed, you would thrive in Ravenclaw. Your desire to learn and study the world around you. I think you would be better suited for...' "RAVENCLAW"

-----

He couldn't bely the sorting hat about his placement, but he wasn't sure if he belonged in any of the houses. He wasn't too sure he even belonged at the school. Yes here he was. A staple of the fact that he had to be magical in some way. Rather than wallow in his fears and anxieties, he turned towards a boy sitting next to him, "Mind passing the chicken? I'm starving."

He waited for a second before his eyes widened a bit, "Oh, I'm sorry, I'm Damien by the way. What's your name?" He extended his hand with a smile that barely lit his steel grey eyes.

Corey's house had already been called, and he had been placed in RavenClaw. Now, he sat at his house table nervously watching all the other first years be called up to their new homes. It didn't take long for him to be swept up in all the excitement, all the new students piling up at the end of the long table, too scared to sit with the older kids. One boy in particular shoved in beside him, ruffling his robes but Corey didn't mind much.

When he asked for the chicken, Corey rushed to hand the plate over, then he introduced himself. Corey flashed the other boy a gap toothed grin.

"Hi! Nice to meet you! I'm Corey! Corey Kenshin!" He jabbed his thumb against his chest nearly knocking over his goblet of pumpkin juice.

"Isn't this place amazing? I never even heard of magic until a couple months ago! An old lady came up to my house and handed me a letter saying I was a wizard! I was like, 'no way!' and then I went to this place called diagon alley and..."

The blathering would continue on all the way past him buying his supplies, riding the train and getting his name called up for the sorting hat (which Damien probably already knew about) but once the floodgates were open it was hard to stop. What was worse is that Corey never stopped eating while he was speaking. As he talked Damien's ear off, he continously shoveled forkfulls of food into his mouth.

"What about you? Are you a pure-blood? I learned there was different kinds!"
