Blinking into the light as the light shifted from the dull and dim enclosed space of the London Station to the slightly more openly illuminated space of Platform 9 and 3/4, Evelynn waiting for her vision to adjust. Fingers gripped at the cold bar of her trolley. The metal beneath proved unyielding, but in a comforting sort of way. It was always rather disorienting to make that transition from the muggle to wizarding world, and she found comfort that at the foundational level, at least fundamental physical principles seemed the same. Still, the recent—albeit brief—conversation with her mother weighed heavily on her shoulders, and when a glance about the station yielded no sight or sign of Woodward, she could feel the familiarly unwanted stinging prickle at the corners of her eyes. With one last glance towards the brick wall where she'd said her farewells just moments before, Evelynn brushed the heel of her hand against her eyes and set out into the dense crowd of students and parents.

There were bodies everywhere. And it was strange to be amidst it all, all over again. Janus, her barn owl, perched in regal fashion in his cage. He had aided to maintain some form of connection to the wizarding world over the summer, flying tirelessly between Flash and Procoppio and a select few others to deliver correspondence. That had been the only real connection, however. Not permitted to use magic, Evelynn had been forced to lock away her wand and anything else that had proved remotely magical so as not to draw a curious eye in the event of unexpected guests. It was relieving to know that she wouldn't have to hide it any longer. Although the same could not be said for poor Janus, who seemed entirely disquieted by the clamour about them, his plumage fluffed to give him the appearance of an own twice his size.

Without anyone to hold her back or give her reason to linger, and with every intention to hurry Janus along to a quite compartment where he could settle down, Evelynn wasted no time in picking out a car at random. Cheeks had flushed slightly as Janus' indignant hissing at passers'-by drew the occasional curious or rebuffed glance, but she bowed her head and hurried forward. Hopping onto the train, she found an empty compartment easily enough and quickly stashed the smaller of her items—including the beak-clicking Janus—inside to stake her claim. The trunk was not quite so easily moved, however. Evelynn had never really been the brawniest of lions, preferring studious pursuits, or those that highlighted her dexterity. Her attempt to pull her trunk up the steps and into the train was no doubt a comical sight. In all likelihood, it probably weighed near enough as much as she herself did. Inch by inch, she succeeded in advancing its progress, but not without a huff and puff and screeching scrape of the iron bandings against the train's frame.

In a moment of over-exertion, she paused to catch her breath. Red in the face, she brushed back the wayward strands of hair that had loosed themselves from the messy bun at the nape of her neck. Getting the trunk up and onto the train and into the compartment was one thing, but hoisting it to the shelving above the seats was quite another. But perhaps someone could help her....

"Procoppio!" In her moment's pause, Evelynn had glanced down the hall and spied a familiar face. One with whom she'd spent a good deal of her summer exchanging letters, and also just happened to be connected to a rather buff physique. Convenient. "Procoppio! Over here!" Evelynn raised a hand above her head, tentatively trying to get the girl's attention. In a way, it was a bit odd to think that she knew someone well enough to call attention to herself like this. It was a bit embarrassing, really, and she could help but glance about for a moment to make sure she wasn't causing any sort of scene or attracting unwanted attentions. "Could I trouble you to give me a hand with this?" she asked, indicating her trunk and offering an apologetic smile. "Do you have anyone that you're sitting with on the train, yet?" Evelynn glanced over and past Ami in an attempt to see if she'd stowed her things away yet. "It looks like I'm the first in the compartment that I found if you'd like to sit with me..?"

Of course, the compartment didn't just have room for Ami. Except by Evelynn, and tentatively her badger of a—dare-she-say-it—friend, none of the seats had yet been claimed. While a compartment could ultimately fit six (as would be the case in a certain main story thread several months from now), the standard number for comfort was four. Evelynn had been hoping to spend the train ride catching up with Woodward, but given his absence, it seemed life had something else in store. Perhaps this could prove to be an opportunity to strengthen existing bonds and create new ones.

Was it just her or did the boarding platform seemed to get more and more packed every year? Accompanied by a rather stiff looking man who Elena had unforunatly come to know as her father, the duo navigated their way among the throng of students all attempting to clamber onto a Hogwarts Express that was due to leave any minute at the pace they were going. "Excuse me, coming through, watch it!" Flutters was very clearly voicing his discontent at being stuffed in a cage, the owl locking Elena with a solid glare as if hoping she would feel an remorse of guilt at restricting his freedom. She chose to ignore it, it was only for the ride to the castle. He could handle that much and it was not the first time he had protested over the less than elegant fashion the owl had to be stowed away with the rest of the luggage. Picking out one of the train cars, the Gryffindor girl heaved her trunk onboard before pausing to look at her father who simly stood there, one eyebrow raised.

"Bye." That was it and without as much waiting for a reply, the brunette made her way onto the Express finally breathing a sigh of relief. Good riddance to that old grump, now she could forget all about that particular nightmare and focus on what was to come. A metallic clang of something shaking as her head dipped downwards to discern the source of the noice and found a very indignant barn owl tapping his beak against the cage the Jangleton girl had stuffed him in. "Pipe down, Flutters! You'll be out in a bit, okay?" Merlin, this was one of the reasons why at times, he could be the most insufferable creature on the planet. "Let's find us a compartment then." Easier said than done given the fact they had a ten ton trunk to drag along with them packed full of clothes, parchment and an ungodly amount of textbooks.

It didn't help the fact that they hadn't been the earliest to get to the station. That meant the majority of the compartments were either packed to the brim or the inhabitants were not too keen on letting Elena and her very indigant owl into their little safe space. She began elbowing people out of the way who were meandering about in the train corridors, beads of sweat breaking out on her face as the girl huffed at someone else who dared to open his mouth to ask her something. "Move!" She had spied what appeared to be a relatively bare compartment with what looked like a sole inhabitant, maybe her chances would be better with this one.

This time, a very angry hoot erupted from the cage as the brunette in her encouraged push to make it to the available seating bumped her school trunk against the compartment door which did not sit well with the barn owl at all. "One more peep out of you and you'll be munching on flobberworms for the rest of the year." She already had a full plate on her hands, Flutters needed to be apart of the solution, not the problem as her gaze drifted away from the trunk to another girl, she looked nice enough. Third time's the charm, right? "Hi, do you mind if I jus- Flutters, I swear by Godric!"

So much for first impressions as the female fidgeted with the lock on the cage to snap it back into place which the bird had somehow taken off with his annoying, consistent beak tapping. Right, empty compartment. Empty seat and attempt number two at a solid introduction without a certain barn owl getting in the way. "Sorry, he's a bit fiesty but um, do you mind if I join you?" The question hung in the air in an almost pleading fashion. Having been turned away from two already, this was her best bet. Sure, she didn't exactly know this person but there was a first time for everything. Oddly enough, Flutters seemed to have his interest piqued too as yellow eyes stared at the accompanying owl as if gauging him.

So much space, surely she could share, right?

"—and don't forget to write!"

"Write!"

Ami rolled her eyes dramatically at her mother's parting words, although the smile on her face betrayed her true feelings on the matter. Her relationship with her mom had come a long way since she'd first moved back to London, and the difference between her first train ride to Hogwarts and now was honestly a little shocking. With one last wave towards her baby brother and Abella, the fourth year (fourth year! when did that happen?) turned towards the now-familiar train that would take her back to school. She tightened her grip on her suitcase in one hand and the cat carrier containing a considerably cranky cat in the other, eyes now locked in on her target. Her jaw clenched as the deafening silence that was the loud chattering of the people around her reminded her that she would be returning to school alone. There was nothing quite like feeling completely and utterly alone in a crowded environment.

Despite her best efforts not to, all Ami could think about was the painful fact that she would not be heading back to school with Scott this year. The two would not spend the hours on the train discussing classes, pets, Quidditch, their families, and their summers... she would go back to school best-friend-less. The thought was almost too much to bear, and the fourth year shuddered to herself in the warm September air as she made her way through the sea of bodies. The cheerfully warm weather seemed to be mocking her tumultuous mood, although she knew that her gloomy attitude was entirely her own doing. Making sure to stand with her back straight and her head held high, she marched towards the Hogwarts Express, taking care to not accidentally run over any tiny first years.

There was certainly something to be said for a four-wheeled suitcase, even it was a bit more No-Maj-ish than was probably expected of her. Although Ami would have no problem carrying a normal trunk (whatever the hell that was) with her, even with the added weight of her school bag and Leo's cat carrier, there was something to be said for working smarter, not harder. The plastic wheels clacking loudly on the cold, hard cement of the train platform, Ami would lift the decently heavy suitcase with ease onto the train before starting the search for a train compartment to sit in. This part had always been the most awkward- at least, from what she remembered. Actually, now that she properly thought about it, she had Scott had only shared a compartment once when going back to school... the rest of the times had always been going back home.

Why was she thinking about Scott, again?

Shaking all thoughts of the blond Gryffindor from her head, Ami nearly missed her favorite sound in the whole world- someone calling her name.
"Could I trouble you to give me a hand with this?"
The Hufflepuff seemed to take her own sweet time sauntering over- at least, that was the image in her head. In reality, she looked more like a puppy running to its owner, looking incredibly excited at the prospect of someone calling her name. She grinned at her fellow redhead, greeting her with a bouncy nod that sent her short bob of hair flying every which way. "With your trunk? Yeah, no problem at all..." Setting Leo's cat carrier on the ground and pushing her suitcase to the side, Ami grabbed the handles of Evelynn's trunk while bending her knees slightly. And with the quietest of grunts, she swung the luggage up and onto the rack above with an astonishing amount of ease. If real life were an action movie, her bicep muscles certainly would've rippled and gleamed, especially as they were exposed by her tank top.

In the time it had taken for Ami to swing Decipio's trunk up into its proper place, a skinny little brunette seemed to have appeared out of nowhere. "Er..." she muttered under her breath, in response to Evelynn's invitation. "Yeah, I can— I haven't found— I'd love to sit with you," she managed to stammer out, eyeing the stranger with interest. How the hell had she managed to haul that gigantic trunk with that tiny little body...? "Decipio, you good if she crashes with us?" the Headliner writer would say with a nod towards Jangleton.

Ami would nod a quick hello to the other Gryffindor before heading inside the compartment, swinging her suitcase up onto the rack with the same ease with which she had handled Evelynn's. Leo's carrier was placed on her seat, remaining closed until she was sure that it was safe to let him out, and her backpack was left on the floor, leaning against the base of her claimed seat by the window. Peeking into the awkward doorway/hallway area that the other two girls were still standing at, she nodded at Elena's trunk. "Let me get that for ya," she said cheerily, reaching for the trunk and, once again, placing it in its designated spot with ease.

"I guess introductions are in order?"

Ami took a seat by the window, moving Leo's carrier from the plushy cushions to her lap. "Ami Procoppio, fourth year Hufflepuff. Er, you can skip all that last name stuff, though... Ami's fine."

How in Merlin's name was he supposed to rationally run through a pillar of brick wall without bashing his bloody skull in? Okay, he could accept that 'magic' is real, and all that. How could he not, after stumbling his way through Diagon Alley to buy all the supplies carefully packed and stacked inside the trolley he was holding onto for dear life. He had seen things that had made absolutely no sense until he remembered about 'magic'. He'd even gotten a wand, a thick twig nestled inside his robes pocket. Corey could not deny that power flowed through the wood of that stick, he'd felt it as soon as he had wrapped his fingers around it, the tingles that shot down his arm, and the concrete faith that it was his.

"Are you going to go through or not?" The voice of his older brother caught his attention, and he whirled round' to cut his gaze bitterly towards his sibling.

"I thought you and the others weren't coming?" Corey's small voice was cold, stiff, and horribly lonely. It wasn't that his family hadn't accepted his new role as a wizard, but it had been hard on them to deal with the entire situation, so they thought it best that he took the train on his own. But...Roden had shown up anyway.

"I had a feeling that you'd get cold feet, ya wee brat. Go on, then. Run through." His brother goaded him, Corey had explained that in order to get to Platform 9 3/4 he had to go past a sort of illusion spell? It was advised that first years run right through it, to get past the initial fear factor. Corey grunted in annoyance, but he actually felt a bit more courage stiffen his back, and he lifted his chin.

"Try not to miss me too much, eh?" Corey ran forward, squeezing his eyes shut as he shoved his trolley forward; he felt like he was passing through a cloud...then nothing. The young ginger haired boy opened his eyes..and there before him was the humongous train that led to Hogwarts. Gosh...there was so many people, but Corey was determined to appear confident, so he shouldered his way through the crowd to look for a swift entrance. He found one towards the middle of the train, and after leaving his trolley with a train attendant, he stepped up onto the narrow hallway with his trunk, staring at all the compartments.

Bloody hell. Where should he go?

Brows flared in surprise as Procoppio—whom she had thought only seconds before hadn't heard her in the least—suddenly came bounding over, hair bouncing, and grin as wide as the horizon. Never in Evelynn's twelve years had anyone reacted so jovially to seeing her. In fact, she couldn't even help glancing back over her shoulder to see if Procoppio might have caught sight of somebody else and was hastening over to them rather than the little lioness. But as her upperclassman ground to a halt immediately before her, she was forced to concede that for some reason, Procoppio was happy to see her.

"Er.. Yes," Evelynn replied, slightly uncertain. Or perhaps she just appreciated being asked to help and have an opportunity to make use of her muscles? She hadn't the faintest idea, but tried to erase the confusion of her expression as Procoppio doubled over to fetch her trunk. "Much appreciated," Evelynn smiled with relief.

With every intention to help with the process, Evelynn bent to take hold of one side of the trunk, only to find it quickly lofted easily into the air. Only a fraction of a second to react with the grabbing her owl's cage from atop the trunk had been given before it sailed smoothly through the air to land securely on one of the shelves above the seating. "I—Oh..!" Her gaze lingered on it for a moment before panning back to her penpal. "You know… You really ought to try out for beater," she commented. "I really wouldn't want to find myself in your targets, mind you," she allowed with a shrug of a brow and the shadow of a smirk, "but you'd be a great addition to the Hufflepuff team."

A voice nearby spoke just as Procoppio's attention fixed onto that very newcomer. Reflexively, Evelynn looked around to see a brunette approaching, owl in one hand, trunk in the other. Whatever she was about to say was suddenly cut off as the cage door snapped open at the insistence of a rather raucous barn owl. It wasn't just any girl, though.

"Ja—" Her greeting was cut off by Procoppio's query. Glancing over to her, then back to the other as the first disappeared into the compartment, Evelynn offered a small nod and demure smile. "Yes, of course. I don't mind at all. There's plenty of room, after all." Perhaps a certain rather lost-looking first-year boy in the aisle nearby might pick up on that little comment.

Procoppio emerged seemingly seconds later to relieve Jangleton of her trunk and soon enough all belongings were stowed safely and securely away above the seats. How convenient it was to have a friend with the strength to match a half-giant. With a quiet chuckle to betray the slight awkwardness and incredulity with just how easily the trunks had been man-handled, Evelynn nodded her head to the interior of the compartment and retreated into it to find a seat. As Procoppio gave her introduction, Evelynn set Janus to the seat beside her and ran fingers through to straighten her hair and conveniently hide the tinge of red that had no doubt coloured her ears. She hadn't missed the comment about surnames. Still, that little habit wasn't about to die so easily.

"Decipio," Evelynn added after Procoppio had finished, holding her hand out to Jangleton. "Evelynn Decipio. Second year Gryffindor. You're Jangleton, aren't you? You were on the Quidditch team for a little while before I joined, although I don't think I ever got to see you play. Why was it that you left the team?"

Meanwhile, Flutters wasn't the only one to have had his interest piqued. From the confines of his cage, Janus' eyes had been trained onto the other owl since the moment he had come into sight. For being such common species of owls, barn owls didn't seem to be so common for those that chose to bring an owl to school. It wasn't every day that Janus ran into another of his own variety. Not that he'd really had the opportunity to do so. He'd been purchased at the beginning of the summer and hadn't yet made a trip to the fabled castle. His arrival at Evelynn's place of residence had resulted in more than a few squabbles with the existing mated pair of barn owls in her stables, and the only other with which he got on well at all was Woodward's. And she he hadn't seen in some time. It had left him rather downtrodden in the last two weeks. Now, however, he had fluffed himself up, posture upright with an intense gaze set out against the other owl. And unlike the other, he sat perfectly still and mannered as though to silently say this is how you're supposed to behave.

She internally breathed the biggest sigh of relief. Finally, a place where she could find some peace of mind and where a particular little fiesty bird would perhaps be able to stop ruffling his feathers at her. "Thanks!" Eyes drifted downward to her trunk which was quickly hauled upwards and away by a girl introduced only as Ami Pro- how on Godric did you even pronounce that? Elena couldn't be bothered to try picking up Flutters's carrier which thankfully remained closed this time setting it down before settling into her seat. Surprisingly, he seemed to be busy in his own world regarding the other owl with a bit of suspicion, she decided to leave him to his own devices for now. "Elena. Elena Jangleton of Gryffindor." She shook the hand that was offered though apparently it was clear Evelynn knew her, well, her surname at least.

Quidditch? Oh, right, the team. Truth be told, there was no solid reason that she could give to the other girl's inquiry. Maybe it just hadn't sat well with her, maybe just the competive nature of the sport was something that just hadn't clicked with her. That, and she had found out the hard way rather that knowing how to fly a broom was not all there was to the flying sport and she didn't exactly dub herself as more of the athletic type."Ah, I just had a lot to juggle on my plate at the time." The Gryffindor replied nodding. It had been a rather short tenure so she didn't exactly recollect too many details of that experience but perhaps she'd have a second shot. The desire for flying up around in the air and whacking around balls was a strong one.

She was still reeling from how Ami had managed to haul that trunky which must have weighed like rocks up into it's resting place without as much a complaint. Elena had been nearly out of breath by the time she had reached the compartment so either the girl was blessed with some sort of superhuman strength or maybe, she really needed to take a second look at how she packed her trunk. "I'm more of a first-name person, myself." All this Jangleton, Decipio, Procoppio stuff was something that just felt foreign to her but to each their own, people were different. It was a miniscule price to pay for at least having a solid seat to sit on.

Another rattle of the cage and a glare downward quickly sent the message that Flutters would not embarass her in front of these strangers. Flutters would be a good owl and he seemed to get the message quickly enough quieting down deciding to go back to his activity of watching his fellow avian colleague. She really hoped the Trolley Witch would be coming around soon, maybe she could appease the bird's diet with a few treats or something, that and she just happened to be starving. In the hassle to get out the door so that they didn't miss the Express, breakfast had been the last thing on her mind as she rushed out, trunk in hand.

"You know… You really ought to try out for beater... you'd be a great addition to the Hufflepuff team."
Ami could feel her cheeks flush at the compliment, and she grinned at Evelynn rather toothily, bobbing her head as thanks. The two redheads had touched on the possibility of her joining the Hufflepuff Quidditch team over the summer, although Evelynn seemed more confident in her skills than she was. Sure, she was strong, but her strength wouldn't matter if she couldn't fly as well as she thought she could. Still, she preened at the Gryffindor's comment, remarking casually, "Don't worry, I'd never bludger you unless the captain tells me to."

The three girls had tumbled into the compartment, trunks stowed away, and their pets accounted for. Ami peeked her head out into the corridor of the train car one last time, spotting a tiny little kid loitering out there by himself. "Hey, kid, you hoppin' in or not?" she called out to him. "We got one more seat!" She knew the pain of scrambling to find a compartment to crash in, especially as a first year (he had to be a first year, there was no way anyone older could be that short) who was presumably new to all of this. At least, he didn't appear to have any friends yet, so she was probably doing him a favor by inviting him to hang with the kool kids.

As she took a seat by the window, Leo's carrier now seated on her lap, Decipio introduced herself to the brunette, before diving right into a question about Quidditch. Ami's eyebrow quirked upwards in surprise as she realized that they were in the presence of an ex-Quidditch player, staring at Elena with renewed interest. So the three had sports in common, that was a good little tidbit to know... "Well, it sucks you had to quit," Ami said aloud, her mouth twisting into a wry smile. "Quidditch is pretty dope, y'know?"

Her change in attitude towards Quidditch was more than a little alarming. Several years ago, she would've been bored out of her mind if the topic had switched to focus on the wizarding sport so quickly. But over the years, her views on it had changed, mostly thanks to Alexx. She could probably thank the blonde Slytherin for most of her current interests and hobbies- she had joined the Headliner because of Alexx, had started writing some Quidditch commentary and articles because of her, and now she was deeply in love with Quidditch. Funny how time and crushes could change a person so drastically.
"I'm more of a first-name person, myself."
Ami nodded once more, totally in agreement with Elena. "Well, at least Decipio's fun to say," she said with a shrug in Evelynn's direction. "If your last name had been like, Boringson or something, then we might have a problem."

Glancing at the two Gryffindor girls' owl cages, Ami's face split into a grin as she spotted a familiar haughty owl. "Janus!" she exclaimed, leaning over to examine the familiar bird. "Good to see ya, buddy! How're you doing?" She peeked at Elena's rather noisy little owl out of the corner of her eye as well, realizing that she was the only feline-owner in the compartment. She grimaced as she reclined in her seat once more, realizing that she had intended to let Leo out of his carrier once they were safely in the compartment. But now, with two birds in the same compartment... well, Leo had never really gotten into a fight with a bird before, had he? He was a rascal, but he had never intentionally gone out seeking a fight. "Well... do you two mind if I let Leo out? He's my cat, and I know you guys have owls, but he's been cooped up for a hot minute and I know he wants to stretch his legs."
