It would me an understatement to say that Maverick Anwyll was just a little clumsy. He probably was the clumsiest person he had ever met and he knew his mother. Just that day, Maverick had gotten his foot caught in the sheets and fell out of bed gaining himself a wonderful bruise on his left arm. Then he had tripped over his own feet causing him to faceplant and his books flying from his hands. Just a few minutes ago, he hadn't been watching were he was going and ran straight into a wall. So yes, Maverick was an extremely clumsy boy and wasn't exactly having a great day.

This is why, Maverick decided that he would go out and walk around the school grounds and possibly read a book in order to cheer himself up. Of course, he had to first make it to the grounds. He was currently walking through the corridors with his book bag. He couldn't decide which book he wanted to read so he had just brought his book bag along so he had a couple of options. He was currently looking through his book bag, not paying attention because he never seemed to learn his lesson. That's when he, of course, ended up colliding with someone just as he looked back up. He fell backwards and rubbed his head as he quickly said, " I'm so sorry, I wasn't paying attention, I'm really sorry."

Bumping into @Maverick Anwyll

"Okay, talk to you later!" Simon called out, waving to one of his friends as he turned the corner of the corridor. Immediately BAM, there it was. It was a rather big impact because neither was expecting it, plus, with Simon as strong as he was, it was almost like hitting a brick wall.

His first thought was that the boy was okay. The fact that he rubbed his head had him a little worried that maybe the two would be heading to the Hospital Wing to get checked but when he spoke, all seemed to be okay aside some slight pain.

The boy apologized but there was no need. Accidents happened all the time. "You're alright, mate," he reassured him and then smiled to show he wasn't upset. "I'm just glad you seem to be alright."

One of the books that was either in the boy's hand or bag had ended up on the floor and caught Simon's attention. He leaned down to pick it up, glancing over the cover. "What do you like reading about the most?" he decided to try and strike up a conversation with the boy.

His eyes glanced down to the emblem upon his cloak and he saw the Ravenclaw crest. Even without having seen it, that's the perception he picked up from the boy. A bag full of books and all.

Maverick looked up at the person he had run into to see a boy about his age or at least he assumed. The boy told him that it was alright and was glad he was ok. Maverick carefully got up and brushed himself off, straightening his book bag. He looked back at the boy to see him holding one of his books. Just before he could say anything, the other boy asked what he liked to read about the most.

Maverick hadn't been expecting a conversation to begin but he wasn't going to pass up on the chance to talk about books. "Well I read a little bit of everything but I enjoy anything with information about different animals and species, there absolutely brilliant," Maverick told the boy who he now saw was a Hufflepuff from the crest on his cloak, "I've read my mum's old copy of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them more times then I can remember." Maverick opened his book bag and pulled out the old and worn book that he had mentioned to show it. He grinned slightly in excitement but quickly lost it.

Maverick was worried that he was wierding the boy out with his excitement so he quickly put the book away. He looked down at the ground and pushed his hair away from his eyes. He remembered he hadn't introduced himself yet and decided he might as well. "My name is Maverick Anwyll by the way, sorry for running into you again," he told the Hufflepuff boy, the excitement slowly draining away from his voice.

Magical creature talk with @Maverick Anwyll

"Simon Kincaid," he said and smiled, realizing the boy didn't give his year and House the way so many others did when first meeting. It was a nice change and obviously from the Ravenclaw emblem on his cloak one could see what house he was in. Perhaps Ravenclaws were really smarter than the rest of the Hogwarts student population and knew they didn't have to give off mundane facts like that.

"You know, I was headed to the Library myself to look up some things about magical creatures. I find them all quite fascinating. Currently I'm trying to figure out why some creatures are held on a higher scale than others. It's all quite odd, the hierarchy of it all. Some things are accepted for one trait but not others. Like, Giants are insulted often for their intelligence and goblins are complimented on it. A werewolf is seen by some as regular members of society and by others as vicious creatures. It's hard to see how they go about classifying everything."

But he wanted to learn about it and learn about it all. The centaurs, the pixies, the imps, the dragons. In all his childhood such creatures were myth and now they were fact. There was an entire wold he was trying to learn about.

"So you said that book was your mum's? She must have been a witch?"

After the Hufflepuff boy had introduced himself, he began to talk about how he wanted to learn more about magical creatures as well as the hierarchy of it all. This fascinated Maverick, he had never met anyone else who was as fascinated about magical creatures as he was. Of course, he had never known anyone else besides his mother who knew about the wizarding world but still. There were so many things in the world he still didn't know about and he wanted to learn about it all.

Simon then mentioned the book Maverick had shown him. He asked if his mother was a witch since the book originally belonged to her. Maverick nodded his head and answered, " Yeah my mum's a witch, I suppose it would be odd if she owned this book and wasn't but I guess it could happen." His mother had never been quite as into the book as he was but it always have them a topic to talk about back home. " She had the book since her first year and has always kept it with her, it's honestly a miracle it's still together at all if I'm being completely honest," Maverick told him, pulling the book out of his bag and looking down at it fondly.

Maverick snapped out of his thoughts and looked back up at Simon. " So you seem to be really into this kind of stuff to, I think that's really cool. I've never known anyone else who really cares about this kind of stuff so this is new," He smiled slightly at the Hufflepuff boy as he fixed the strap on his book bag , " If you don't mind me asking, is there a reason or do you just find it interesting. I've always been fascinated by it all but I've never been able to explain why so if you can't either that's also fine."

Talking with @Maverick Anwyll

"I guess because it's a whole new world. Now and then I research the history, read up some on the four founders. I also like learning about the magical plants. My mum attended Hogwarts but she passed away when I was young and I never got to hear anything about it. Crazy that some of this exists. Crazy that some of this exists and all my life I thought they were myths - like unicorns and dragons."

"So are you pureblood?" he asked the boy. Simon wouldn't have cared either way but he knew that some of the pureblooded students had magical upbringings their entire lives. That alone would be fascinating but he could see how they didn't seem as impressed at Hogwarts as he was. This boy seemed to enjoy it all still so maybe he wasn't.

"I can't help but think how different it would be to grow up knowing this world exists." But then again those same students often lacked an understanding in the world of the muggles - technology and all that jazz.

"What kinds of creatures are in that book?" From the cover alone he could see a few depicted on the illustration but it was a decent sized book and he had a feeling that it being well loved was not just from the boy's mother, but probably him reading it several times as well.

After answering Maverick's question, which he found the answer to be interesting, Simon asked him if he was a pureblood as well as what creatures were in his book. Maverick was curious to why he had asked the first one but answered anyway, "I'm a half-blood actually, my dad's a muggle. He was never around much so my mom raised me mostly by herself. I suppose that's why I've always had more insight on the wizarding world then most half-bloods." His mother was a pureblood so she had raised him the way she knew how. He had a few friends back home who were all muggles which was probably the main reason why he knew as much as he did about the muggle world.

" You said your mother went to Hogwarts so I assume you're also a half-blood? Not that it really matters but since we're on the subject,"he continued on. Since Simon had also asked about his book, he would gladly tell him. "You probably have read it actually since it is one of our school books. It has pretty much every fantastic beast. Acromantulas, Phoenixes, Trolls, Dragons, etc," Maverick listed off the creatures found in his book.

"I've read this book a million times but it never gets old. I want to know everything I can about these creatures, about their worlds. It's absolutely brilliant," Maverick said excitedly, anyone could see the twinkle in his eyes as he talked. He loved everything to do with this subject. He really didn't get to talk about it often so this was brilliant.

Family talk with @Maverick Anwyll

"My mum was a muggleborn so I guess that makes me most likely halfblooded?"
He really wasn't sure how that worked. And then there was the whole situation of his father but it didn't seem right to really talk about it, even if Maverick just said his had run off. Simon didn't know anything about his father, not even a name. The man could have been a wizard for all he knew.

"I think I might have seen it in the bookstore back in Diagon Alley but no, I don't think I've read that one yet." They didn't have Care of Magical Creatures until Third Year.

Simon smiled though at the boy's enthusiasm for magical creatures. "Right now after leaving Hogwarts I'm leaning towards something that helps others - like medicine perhaps. That or dragon training." One extreme to the other.

"Good thing we first years have quite a lot of time to figure all this out. I think I'd be quite doomed if I had to pick today. So did your mum go here? To Hogwarts?"

It was only recently had he learned there were other wizarding schools scattered throughout the globe - Beauxbatons in France, Durmstrang up North, and so on.

Simon asked him if his mother had gone to Hogwarts which he nodded his head to. " Yep she went to Hogwarts when she was younger. She was actually a Hufflepuff, she has always been very proud of her house," Maverick told him, thinking back to the shelf in his house dedicated to his mother's old school stuff. "My mom used to tell me about her adventures here with her friends. I always thought everything sounded amazing, so actually being here still doesn't feel real," Maverick told him, smiling slightly as he remembered how his mother would excitedly tell her stories.

Maverick remembered that before he had started talking about his mother, Simon had brought up careers. "So medicine or dragons, that really is an odd combination you have there," Maverick grinned slightly at Simon, " I've never really put much thought into it but I definitely want to do something with animals. Probably not something with dangerous creatures though, I don't think I would last long." Maverick could just imagine himself tripping and falling constantly and then his whole life just ending because he for some reason had chosen a dangerous creature to work with.

Maverick quickly came back from his not so wonderful thoughts and decided continue, " Thankfully, like you said, we have a while till we have to figure this stuff out, thank goodness." Maverick was glad that he had run into Simon, even if he knew he would probably have a few more bruises in the morning because of it. He had almost completely forgotten about the rest of the day because of it, which was definitely a win in his book.

Adventure seeking with @Maverick Anwyll

"Yea, my mum was a Gryffindor,"
he said, always proud of that. He himself was a Hufflepuff but he knew that Gryffindors were known for being the brave and that was very much what his mother was to him. To have gone through all that she had gone through and handled it with grace - it amazed him that someone could have such strength.

"What kind of adventures did she talk about?" he wondered. Some of the students really gravitated toward quidditch and it seemed that they made quidditch their life. Those, they would practice, they'd have games, they'd try to make it on a name in the trophy room - that was their adventure.

Some students talked of detention. They would do this that annoyed a professor or break a rule here and there and get foolishly caught. That was adventurous to them.

Still, Simon had also heard stories floating around the student body about secret passages and with a school full of things like hidden chambers, moving staircases, and moving/talking portraits that seemed perfectly possible.

"Someday I'm going to go on a search for one of the hidden passages. I haven't quite figured out where to start though." Still, he thought maybe it would be near the portraits or the suits of armor, because then if anyone was looking for anything suspicious, there would be witnesses to interrogate.
