Background Story:
Evangeline's parents were Marie and Jacob Featherwix. Jacob was a wizard working at the Ministry of Magic in the Department of Transportation and Marie was a muggle seamstress. Jacob didn't tell Marie that he was a wizard until after three years after Evangeline was born. Marie didn't seem to mind that fact that he was a wizard and thought that it was wonderful and extraordinary that Evangeline had some magic in her blood.
The two told Evangeline that she was a half-blood when she was about nine years old, and told her that she must never ever tell anyone about it. Evangeline, being very serious when it came to promises and secrets, never told a soul.
Evangeline attended a local public school until fourth grade, when her mother had died in a car crash. Evangeline and her father buried her on a hill in the countryside and the once social, care-free, and upbeat girl was now replaced with a much more quiet, mature, and studious personality.
A couple months slipped by and Jacob Featherwix was having a hard time paying his taxes for the condo that he and his daughter lived in. Eventually, he and Evangeline both had to move out and move into a small apartment just big enough for two. It had one bathroom, two bedrooms, a kitchen, and living room all crammed into one space.
Since the small family couldn't keep everything and needed money, Evangeline sold some of her old books and possessions that she owned. In the end, all she had was a bed, some books, stationary, her clothes, and other essential needs in life.
Jacob did the same, and since he could not cook, Evangeline would often cook something simple for him like Campbell's Tomato Soup or scrambled eggs with toast, things like that. Evangeline spent the most of her summer leading up to the school year doing services for money, like polishing shoes, helping out at local grocery stores, and other things for money.
First Instance of Magic:
Evangeline's first instance of magic was when she was just about to turn 11 years old, and she was laying down on her bed reading a book. Suddenly, she felt herself being lifted off of the bed and into the air, she looked up from the book and found herself hovering a few feet over her bed! Knowing that this was perfectly normal for a witch or wizard, she simple took a deep calm breath like she would do when she woke up and tried to make herself float down, she did this for 30 minutes when her father came into her room and saw her floating. He smiled and helped her down, explaining to her that her letter should arrive any day soon and that he couldn't wait to see her on the train to Hogwarts, saying that his "little girl" was all grown up. She rolled her eyes as he called her his "little girl," but to be quite honest, she really liked it.
