Katrina had nearly forgotten about her club. No, that wasn’t right. There was a constant nagging in the back of her mind to tend to the members. But there was studying to do and things to learn and dueling to practice and her club had fallen down to the bottom of her to-do list. After her fall through of attendance for her Winter Hunt, she’d felt so discouraged that she hadn’t been able to focus long enough to plan the set up for the next Hunts. But now, it was after Winter Break, she had a bit less to do and was going to see if she could draw in some new members.

Katrina put up a flier on the Bulletin Board for sign-ups a while back. Katrina now stood before it scanning the new names on the sign up list. There were a few that she vaguely recognized, but no one she knew that well. Katrina took out her journal and wrote down the list of her members before running off to her next class.

By the next evening, Katrina had handwritten invitations to a new kind of event. The cursive had been painstaking and her wording wasn’t quite as mysterious as she’d hoped it would be, but it was done. Katrina slipped the papers into matching envelopes and tasked her guardian’s owl, Fluffles, to deliver the letters. The letters would have arrived any time between after dinner and curfew on January 8th and if the student was not present, the envelope would have simply been left on their pillows.

Esteemed Member of the Scavenger Hunt Club,

I, Katrina Walker, cordially invite you to a Scavenger Hunt Club event on the evening of January 10th in Classroom 402.
This, unlike previous hunts, will be more like a meet and greet for new members to mingle with old members. There will still be some prizes to discover, rather like a treasure hunt, but there will also be snacks and other things to do.
I invite you to bring a friend or two, who knows, maybe they might want to join the club as well.

Katrina Walker
~~~
It was now evening of the 10th and Katrina looked around the room she’d set up with a smile of pride. She had gone with a cozy winter theme and it had taken numerous requests to her guardian’s via owl to get the supplies she needed. There was a desk that had been transformed into a hot coco bar complete with marshmallows and candy canes and whipped cream galore. The desk beside it had all manners of supplies for making tea for those less sugar happy. The last desk had a large charcuterie board with meats and cheeses and fruits of all kinds. There was something of interest for anyone. One side of the classroom had the desks with foods and some blankets sprawled out on the floor for people to sit on and chat. The other side of the room was set up like a mock classroom. There was more to the room than it seemed, although it certainly wasn’t clear. To most, it would just seem Katrina left the other side of the classroom alone.
Katrina walked over to the door and opened it, letting anyone who had been waiting outside in. Revealing with a large smile what she’d put together. “Welcome, welcome! Thank you for coming! Feel free to come and go as you please, I’ll start putting everything away in about three hours so I can clean up and everyone can get back to their dorms well before curfew! Please clean up any mess you make at the food tables for the sake of me having to clean everything up after, besides that, don’t do anything crazy,” Katrina would sit on her usual stool in the corner of the room with a mug of hot coco topped with all the fixings as people filed in, giving each a smile and a wave until she decided to do something else.
]Welcome to yet another Scavenger Hunt Club event! I apologize for the late notice for members, but I managed to get this completed before my finals, so it’s going up now. If you aren’t already a member of the Scavenger Hunt Club, welcome! You are free to join this thread if you’d like, though I’d rather your character enter with some idea of what this is so Katrina doesn’t have to explain it several times, perhaps they just heard of it in chatter in the hallways.
Feel free to have your character eat the provided snacks, sit on the blankets and chat, or perhaps investigate a nagging urge that Katrina didn’t just leave one side of the room alone. I will be modding this thread weekly (I say the word weekly loosely since I have finals and might not get to it).
The treasure hunt side of things! For those curious folk: yes is definitely more to the room than it seems. I will be rolling d20 to see if your character notices something (those that use their post to investigate the desks would get a +5 to the roll). I will THEN roll accuracy to see if the character is able to pinpoint where the thing is or if they just have a feeling something is there. I am trying really hard to incorporate more stats into this since I’ve previously only been rolling wisdom. As far as other rolling goes, I will explain when we get to it (as I have many lofty ideas… and it all depends on what y’all roll). I also have a list of things that your character might find and will roll according to the number left. Those things might automatically be some sort of ‘prize’ or they might lead to another thing that has the ‘prize’. Unlike past events, this is essentially independent unless you’d like it to be otherwise.
If you have any questions regarding anything with this thread, don’t be afraid to send me an owl or dm me on discord at koalalover#3558.
Today started like any other normal day for Paige. She woke up, helped her roommates find their shoes, went to class, fell tripped on her own foot in the hallway, you know, same old same old. Except it wasn't. Today was Paige's first meeting/hangout with the Scavenger Hunt Club. So she went to class, tripped in the hallway. It was so normal that it was aways the same hall. Because of routine, she always fell in from of the same students. So after she waved the usual greeting from the floor, and continued on her way.
"I need you all to write me an essay about the history of these charms. It must be at least 2 parchment papers long. Thank you, class." Paige sat up, and shoved her papers and books into her bag. "Where is my quill? I can't find my quill?" Paige sighed and turned around. "In your hand?" The Hufflepuff looked at her hand. "Oh- thanks Paige." Paige offered a smile before grabbing her wand and shoving it into her pocket. She went upstairs. She finished her essay, finally before changing into some other clothes. She went to the room where the hang out was to take place.
She peered into the room. "Hey, I'm Paige, Paige Chase." The girl in the room greeted Paige and Paige leaned against the wall. SHe smiled to the girl before glancing around a bit. Than she decided to search for some things later as she headed to the snacks.
Lucia had almost completely forgotten about the Scavenger Hunt Club. She had signed up at the begining of the year, then promptly forgotten to attend all of the Hunts which had happened since then. Well, this time she was determined that she would remember and even went as far as to put a sticky note on the wall next to her bed saying SHC MEETING - JAN 10 - ROOM 402 - REMEMBER IT!!. The note certainly seemed to work, because after dinner on the 10th Lucia got changed and immediately made her way to Classroom 402.
On the way there, she suddenly remembered something. Lucia knew Katrina, but she knew her as Rose, the third-year with family problems. (That was a very basic explanation, of course, as Lucia and Rose - no, Lucia, she's Katrina - had talked about more than just families in their anonymous letters.) Katrina, on the other hand, had no idea that Lucia existed and the Hufflepuff would rather keep it that way. Especially if she was to share any secrets...
Lucia quickly reached the right classroom and made to open the door before hanging back. Maybe Katrina was still setting something up? There had to be a reason why the door was closed, after all. Soon enough, though, the redheaded third-year opened the door for her and welcomed her [and anyone else who had been waiting] in.
Wow. The room had been done up so there was something for everyone, if you ignored one side of it. Maybe that was for seating, or something? Oh, no... the other side had blankets out for that. Then maybe... The treasure hunt! Lucia grinned at Katrina, then checked herself. For this evening, at least, she had to pretend that she had never heard of Katrina Walker, let alone spoken to her, let alone been keeper of some of her secrets. "Thank you for inviting me," she said politely, and made her way to the table of hot chocolate. Once she had gotten herself something warm to drink, maybe she would investigate the empty side of the room...
Today was no different for Ophelia. Get up, get dressed, go have breakfast in the Great Hall, classes. Nothing ever seemed to change. Until a letter on her pillow caught her eye. What could this be? She stops for a moment to read it, and gasps as she remembers that she joined the Scavenger Hunt club.
"Oh, how could I 'ave forgotten?!" She tucks the letter awayin her bag and heads off to class.
On the evening of January 10th, Ophelia gets ready to leave for the club. (Outfit)
She arrives at the door, going to pull the handle but deciding against it. She could still be doing something, she could be getting dressed, I dunno. Best to wait.
After what seems like hours, which is only really a few minutes, the door swings open and Ophelia steps in with a big smile.
"Thank you for inviting me, Katrina!" She exclaims, excited to be there. Just then, she looks over into the room, then immediately stops and marvels at the wonder in front of her.
"Bloody hell.." She whispers, awestruck.
The room is beautifully decorated, and it seems as though there's something for everyone. The snacks are vast, the cushions are poofy, the decor is fantastic; all of it just stops her in her tracks. She runs over to the snack table and grabs some hot cocoa, sipping on it and savoring the flavour. She surveys the room and all the people, deciding to go up and talk to the girl with the pink scarf.
"Hi, I'm Ophelia, but everyone just calls me Phelia. What's your name?" She extends her left hand, the right one holding her cocoa.
[size=95Over winter break, Aspen was faced with pressure from her father to stretch her wings and join a few clubs. None of the clubs seemed particularly interesting to Aspen, that is until she heard about the Scavenger Hunt Club that is run by a 3rd year. As a lover of puzzles and all things riddled, Aspen thought this was the perfect club for her, and they even had a meeting coming up, a get to know you event.
After spending way to much time trying to figure out what to wear, Aspen began to make her way over to the classroom the meeting is going to be held in. As she enters, Aspen notices one girl with flaming red hair passing around snacks, she must be Katrina, and a few other girls wandering around and chatting. She stands by the door for a minute or so, collecting herself before entering the room.
Aspen walks up to the girl she deemed at Katrina and waves, "Hi, I'm Aspen. This is my first time at a meeting, anything I need to do?" As she waits for a response, Aspen looks around, wondering if there are puzzles or anything set up in the room, trying to get an idea of how the meeting will go.
Michael rolled his eyes as he listened to another slytherin boast about one thing or other as he retied his shoes, using the table as somewhere to prop his foot. He was trying to hurry to the club meeting but he just. . didn't feel like it.
He slowly made his way through the halls, fingers on the walls, sliding up, then down, then back up as he walked. He hummed a muggle song that he had heard a girl singing as he pasted her. He made it to the classroom relatively quick, barely late at all. He walked in and looked around at the people there and frowned, all girls. It was always all girls. He sighed and took a seat behind them all, picking at his nails as he waited for something to spark his attention.
When he was so lost in boredom that he was officially zoned out, he started to think about what he would do for the summer. If he was denied rights to go home for Christmas, would they try the same for summer? Would they send him to his grandparents on his other side? Would they just give him to some friend willing to take the boy in for a couple galleons a night?
Paige was surveying the snack table, unsure what she should eat. Too much of one thing makes her sick, but too little of something delicious is just a no, no. Finally she just decided on the little things, maybe chips or pretzels if they were there. If there was dip, she would definitely be using it. She looked around the room from the corner of her eye. She Diane know if there was a certain time when they will be allowing them to look for hidden things or not. So deciding to not get a head start, she turned her eyes back in front of her.
Just in time for a girl to walk up to Paige.
Paige raised her eyebrows at the red head who seemed to look so much like Paige's other friend, Eliza Corrids. "Hey, Phelia! Err.. I'm Paige!" She waved her hand in the air. "Sorry for all that stuttering, I wasn't expecting someone to come up yet." Than she laughed. "So, are you new to this club? I am." Turning her gaze to the snacks once more, she added, "just snacking, trying not to eat all of the tiny things that never make you full."
Social events... You could say Sapphire wasn't a fan. She would do it though, as she felt obligated to attend the Scavenger Hunt Club's functions. And hey, maybe branching out wouldn't be so bad. But at the same time, she was sceptical about it. If she pushed herself to the edge, how would things work out for her? Or other people, for that matter.
So there she was, standing in front of the door. She was a tad late, having completely forgotten about the letter she'd received. Quite embarrassing, if she was being honest. She tugged lightly at the edge of her turtleneck, thinking that she must look odd. She always did. She was a gangly teenager. And she had white hair. Adding onto the weird aura she must have, she slapped herself in the face. Even though it was only to snap herself out of her thoughts, anyone watching would probably give her that look... the one of judgement.
Finally, she worked up the courage to enter, looking around. Of the people there, she recognized a few. Katrina was one, of course. And then, to her surprise, was her quill pal, whom she'd met earlier in the year. Or last year, depending on how one looked at it. She first greeted Kat with a small hello, then waved to Michael. Then, as she normally would, she moved to stand by the wall. She didn't quite know what to do, so she looked around the room. She could always grab a drink or a snack, but for some reason, nerves were keeping her from having much of an appetite. It was an SHC gathering, so she assumed that there must also be some sort of ulterior motive. With that, she set to focussing more on her examinations. It would take a few times calling her name to distract her. Not that she expected anyone to try, of course.
The first Sunday after their return from the holidays had come swiftly. Classes had resumed, homework had piled up accordingly, and quidditch practices had resumed. On top of that, Evelynn had been allotted a fair bit of additional responsibility in the form of her Prefectorial duties which ate up nearly all of the spare time that she hadn't really had to spare to begin with. Under other circumstances, she might have had to set some of her extra-curricular club activities on the backburner in order to accommodate her new routine. Fortunately, the Headliner would be taking a break this month, freeing her from her regular Editing duties, and allowing her the time to spend it elsewhere.
Even still, she was not among those waiting outside the door to classroom 402 when it was first opened. Instead, she had taken the opportunity to complete a quick patrol of her designated corridors and rooms, making note of anyone who seemed as though they might be getting just a bit too comfortable where they lingered and unlikely to have packed up by the time curfew rolled around. She completed it quickly enough, however, and made her way to the fourth corridor with purposeful strides.
As one of the more senior members, this was not the first time Evelynn had made her way at the behest of a letter to a location decreed for a SHC meeting. Nor would it be her last. Those few hunts in which Evelynn had participated had been occasions fondly recalled. Except perhaps the final stroke of the last one. She had been a touch salty that the flying challenge had not been hers to carry out, and as it happened, their "champion" had been late to take flight and had lost them the race as a result. Nevertheless, the Scavenger Hunt Club had been quite the hit last year, the riddles challenging enough while still being very accessible to all members. And sufficiently variable to take into consideration the various skills and strengths of the team's members.
It was, however, the first time that for it to be held within doors, as well as the first time there had been anything other than a hunt involved. To see that this would be something of a meet and greet, especially so late into the year, had struck Evelynn as a touch odd, but she had simply shrugged her brow in indifference at the time and tucked the letter away.
On arrival, Evelynn slipped quietly into the room, offering Walker a, "Good evening, Walker," accompanied by a polite smile.
It seemed the upperclassman was already fairly cozied up upon her stool in the corner, a warm beverage in hand. Which seemed… odd, actually. Evelynn might have expected her to be standing in waiting in some central area of the room prepared to welcome everyone once gathered and provide some sort of opening speech and explanation to the evening's proceedings. Yet there she was, perched as though prepared to leave everyone to their own devices and simply observe from the figurative shadows; she wasn't even poised to be mingling.
Naturally, then, this led to the only logical conclusion that this area actually was set up to be some sort of hunt. Making her own way to the table set up for refreshments and snacks, Evelynn cast a cursory glance about to take stock of her environment. A number of students were there already, all of who were unfamiliar to her (although she would have a run-in with Fox the very next day at the courtyard turned Siberian snow-storm). To each of them she would likewise offer a polite smile and nod of her head in passing.
Under normal circumstances, it would be the people that would catch and hold her attention. But this club was the rare place where psychosocial observations deferred to environmental. Leaving the hot cocoa and fixings alone for the time being, Evelynn daintily plucked a candy cane from its holder, hardly pausing her stride in passing the table as she did. As fingers plied at the plastic wrapping, her steps carried her languidly about the perimeter of the room. The entirety of the room. Initially, only half of the class had been paid any mind. It had looked as any class would, with desks arranged in preparation for lecture. She'd simply assumed that Walker hadn't wanted to bother pushing them all to the perimeter of the class unnecessarily. But now she wasn't quite so certain.
Teeth snapped off the tip of the cane where it soon disappeared behind closed lips. For now, she kept her hands to herself, one arm braced across her abdomen, the other planting its elbow near her hip, holding the candied treat to hover near her collar. Back and forth she meandered through the desks and around the outside of the area clearly designated for socializing, eyes rapt for the slightest hint to get this hunt started.
