Sometimes studying was a drag. Mars sighed, propping their chin up on their palm. Let's not get it wrong, they loved magic and the subjects were interesting and they'd always been fascinated by Herbology in general, but—studying was really awful. They suppressed another sigh, shifting their eyes over to the sweeping expanse of bookshelves. If only they could hop into one of those and just fight monsters for a living or something, wouldn't that be nice?

Mars huffed out a laugh, turning back to their open textbook. Well, that was basically what they were doing anyway. It just—would come after seven years in school. They flopped backward, head rolling over the top of their backrest. Ah, what a drag.

They were slow to pick themselves up, rolling their neck as they did so. Hhm. Maybe it was time for a break. Pushing themselves out of the seat, Mars stretched upwards and then wandered off to the shelves. They enjoyed this, losing themselves in the darkness of the maze for a little bit.

The dust that swirled in the air was illuminated by the sunlight as they ran a finger along the wood bracing off a shelf. All the books here were about monstrous plants or something, which only reminded them of the Herbology textbook they abandoned. Biting their tongue to get rid of the sour taste, Mars strode further into the back.

Huh. There was an odd sense of Deja vu here, wasn't there? They'd done this before, not two days ago. Only before... they'd been looking for something. Right. Mars rolled their tongue over their teeth, the slight burning sensation already building in the back of their throat. A Parselmouth. In all honesty... they were excited. Maybe it was taboo but—well, a whole language to talk to snakes? Wasn't that exciting?

With half a laugh, they turned back around, already finding their energy returning. It was exciting, wasn't it, magic and language and all. Even Herbology. Maybe they could force themselves through a few more pages.

Humming slightly, Mars slid their hands into their pockets. Even so... they were glad they'd got a little more of a handle on when it came out now. When they'd first started, it felt like every other sentence had somehow popped into Parseltongue, and they hadn't figured out they'd done it until it was over. Now though... well, they had a bit more control at the very least.

"Ah, this iss fun, issn't it?" they laughed. It kind of was, feeling the gravel of their tone, the gentle hiss in their ear. Any non-binary person's dream, they reckoned.

"I should get back to my textbook though," they mumbled outloud, "Hate for ssomeone to ssteal it, or ssomething."

[ Home, they said. I should like to go home. ]
