Strangers on a Train
Late...very, very late to be precise, the hands on the large clock ticking closer to eleven. Barreling through the barrier, she narrowly avoids crashing into someone, calling out an apology as she heaves her truck onto the train just as other last minute students begin to board. Sighing in relief, she rests her aching muscles for a minute before reluctantly dragging it down the corridor of the train. She was nervous as she quickly peered into compartments, seeing nothing yet but older students all too absorbed in their conversations to notice her gaze on them. It seemed hopeless, but she persevered in her little quest for a compartment. How humiliating would it be to not find one to sit in, as unlikely at that was? Minutes tick by before she comes upon one with a singular occupant, seemingly around her age. Knocking on the door, she doesn't actually wait for an answer before carefully sliding the door open.
"Hello, um, could I perhaps sit here with you?" Her voice came out softly in her nervousness, her hands tugging on her grey sweater to occupy them before moving on the brush some of her hair out of her face.

Strangers on a Train
Alan’s gaze moved from the window of the train to a girl standing in the door-way. He looks at her and smiles. “But of course”. He looked back out the window, resting his head on his chin. He looked at all the people waving as the train started moving. At last, the train was out of the station and he was on his way to Hogwarts. He was very excited. He wondered what house he would be in. Probably Gryffindor, since all of his ancestors who were witches and wizards were also in Gryffindor. He looked around the compartment, not really knowing what else to do. He decided to just take out a book and read for the time being. Alan loved reading. He loved reading since he was two years old. He also loved animals, currently owning three cats and two dogs. He looked back over at the girl and smiled. “What’s your name?” He asked as he looked back down at his book

Strangers on a Train
Her nerves didn't exactly dissipate at her first interaction with this boy, wondering if this was going to be an awkward ride. A long, awkward ride. But things could only get better, couldn't they? So she shoves her things out of the way and plops onto the seat across from him.
"Oh, thanks!" She flashes a small smile at him, picking at imaginary lint on her clothing as the compartment descended into silence.
Her train of thought was interrupted by the boy once again speaking, and to her.
"Oh! It's Elowen..Elowen Manglewood. And you are?"
Maybe engaging him in a conversation would divert his attention from that book. It wouldn't hurt to try now, would it?
"So what are you reading there? Where are you from? Do you have siblings? Did you already know you were magical? I didn't know until I got my letter, it's so exciting, don't you think so?" It took her a moment to realize that maybe bombarding him with questions wasn't the best route to go. Oh well though, she already started her tirade. Maybe she'd dial it back just a smidge though, no need to make some dislike her already..before school has even started no less.

Alan chuckled. “Well, it’s nice to meet you, Elowen” He looked up from his book. “I’m Alan. Alan Everhart”. He was about to resume reading, but before he could even look down, the girl started asking him a series of questions.
After a few seconds she eventually stopped. He chuckled again. “Well. I’m reading a book regarding vampires, mer-people and stuff like that” he lifted the book in the air for no reason ”I have no siblings sadly, I’m an only child. I’m from Dublin, Ireland, maybe you can tell by my accent. I had no idea I was magical, until one day when I was doing the dishes. I accidentally dropped one of the plates, but right when it was gonna reach the ground and shatter, it was floating in mid-air.” He laughed quietly to himself as he remembered when it happened. “Well, I’ve told you all about myself. What about you?” He leaned back in his seat. He put his book back in his bag as he looked at the girl

She blushes lightly in embarrassment at her barrage of questions, mentally berating herself just a bit. But she was surprised when the boy, Alan, she knew now, simply answered her questions. He didn't seem to be bothered by her questions which a bit of a relief.
"Oh, it's nice to meet you too, Alan! Sorry about all of the questions.."
She peers over at the book as he holds it up, seeing it for just a moment before turning her gaze back to him.
"That sounds like an interesting read. I'm an only child as well! Would've been nice to have at least one other sibling. I'm from Hawkshead, it's a smallish village. My parents told me about mine because I was fairly young when it happened. Apparently my dad was decorating the Christmas tree and it started to fall towards where I was on the floor, but then it was floating. Haven't done anything big like that since."
It rushed out of her since she'd had no one to talk to about the magical part, so a deep breath was needed afterwards. She smiles brightly at him.
"So what are you looking forward to?"

Strangers on a Train
He sighed. “I’m looking forward to seeing the library” He smiled, imagining himself sitting in the corner of the Library with several books piled next to him. “I love reading, be it fantasy, history, biology. Heck, I would even read the entire Bible if I had the chance” He said, laughing quietly.
“I’m also looking forward to Care of Magical Creatures” He said. “I’ve always loved animals. At my house, we have three cats and two dogs, all of which are male surprisingly”
He puts his hands behind his head, leaning back in his seat. “What house do you think you’re gonna be sorted into? I have a feeling I’m gonna be in Gryffindor, since all of my ancestors who have ever attended Hogwarts were Gryffindors” He gets his wand out and twirls it in between his fingers. He tosses it up in the air and catches it. “Are you’re parents muggles?” He asks out of nowhere. “My father is a muggle, moms a witch”
He slides his wand up the sleeve of his hoodie. “I had no idea my mom was a witch until that day she found out that I was a wizard. She told me all about Hogwarts and magic that day” He stopped talking when he realized he might be boring her

@Alan Everhart
She grins at him and nods along to what he was saying, waiting until it seemed right to say anything along the lines of their conversation. And she didn't have to wait long for that opportunity as she soon directed questions to her.
"Well, I certainly wouldn't mind spending some free times in the library, that's all I really did back home. I did hear that there were secret passageways throughout the castle! I'd love to explore and find them all just hopefully not getting into too much trouble in the mean time." Clearing her throat, she lets out a little laugh before continuing.
"I feel like Hufflepuff would be the best fit for more. It certainly sounds like a great house to be in, aside from remarks I've heard in passing when I went supply shopping several months ago." Going quiet in thought for a moment, she chews on her lower lip before shrugging it off. "As for my parents, they're both muggles, absolutely no idea about magic before I got my letter. Well, aside from the Christmas tree incident."
Picking back up on something he had said, she posed a question to him. "So after your mum told you about her being a witch, did you find out some others you knew were also magical? I mean, must've met some of her friends before.." Suddenly realizing she may have been rude, she immediately stops talking except for a quick apology. "I'm sorry, that was a bit rude of me."
