Late, late, late...
@Paige Chase
Ashley walked down the silent corridors as fast as she possibly could without running. The last thing she needed was another reason to be in trouble. Ashley had completely forgotten about class. Being deep in a good book can do that to you. Books were going to be the death of her, she decided. Why do things you love always get you in trouble? The halls were empty, and Ashley's footsteps echoed as loudly as the thoughts in her head as she walked. She hastily pulled her reddish-brown hair up in a fast bun in a last-ditch effort to look neat. In the process of doing so, she dropped her stack of textbook on the floor. Great. Just great. She hissed through her teeth. "What are you looking at?" She asked the empty suits of armor bordering the corridors. Was that a sign of insanity? she wondered, talking to armor? It probably was. She should go get her head checked. She could just hear her mum's voice in her head - Oh, Ash, you're fine! Good heavens, you can be dramatic. Then she would laugh and her green eyes, the same as Ashley's, would sparkle and then she would hug her until Ashley pulled away, muttering, Mom! She smiled at the memory. For the first time in weeks, she felt a little homesick. Which was annoying, because she had enough to deal with, including getting to class on time, without having emotional breakdowns added to the list. Shaking her head, she continued down the hall. From behind her, she heard another pair of feet running-without-running. Curious, Ashley turned around.

Late, late, late...
Paige was running to charms. She came across one of the girls she met in the common room. She laughed shyly. "guess I wasn't the only one caught up in a book." She stopped to help her pick up her books. She looked up with a shy smile. "Hey, did the armor offend you? Or do you always yell at armor?" She looked at the armor that gleamed from the candles glow. "Anyway, what class are you heading to?" They jogged down the hall together. "I'm heading to charms. Ugh" It wasn't that she didn't like charms, she loved charms in fact. It was just that she didn't have her homework for the class and didn't feel like starting over. The halls were empty, except for some ghosts here and there. One stopped by and asked the two if they knew where his head was. "Er.." She tried not to laugh. "On your neck?" The ghost felt there. "Ah! Thank you young ladies! I owe you two!" Then they kept jogging. "I don't remember if I said this already, but I'm Paige. Paige Chase." Paige wasn't the same shy girl she was. She had become her normal self again. Sort of. Whatever, it was progressing.

Late, late, late...

"Oh, yeah! I remember you. I'm Ashley. Or Ash. I'm going to Charms, too" Ashley was out of breath from speed walking, and her bag filled with books and school supplies was bouncing heavily on her legs. And her glasses were starting to slip again. Oh, well. Ashley checked her watch nervously. They were already three minutes late. Ashley estimated they would be five to six late by the time they got there. She glanced again at the empty suits of armor flanking the halls, as if protecting them. The shining metal was glowing almost orange from the light coming from the burning torches. "I'm not offended by them, exactly," She pointed to the armor in answer to Paige's previous question. "They just happened to be in the way of my ranting." Ashley laughed. She smiled at Paige as they hurried down the halls. "He was a friendly ghost, wasn't he?" Ashley asked. Before coming to Hogwarts, she hadn't believed in ghosts of goblins or pixies, no matter what her father had told her. Now, though, Ashley could see that she had been wrong. She found herself believing in many more things after coming here. In a way, she felt more at home here than she had in Isle of Skye. Weird how things like that happen.
