It had been years since he lived at Hogwarts, about thirteen years, to be exact. Back then, he had always known the benefit of having a pet, it was one of the best parts about Hogwarts. They kept you company, gave you something to come back to at the end of the day, always wanting to see you. Also, they were fun. Kelsey had always, naturally, been partial to frogs. Their croak made him nostalgic for home, and they were lumpy and funny. He found that of all the pets available, frogs had the greatest sense of humor. He appreciated that.

Sadly, frogs do not live to be 24. The frog he got when he was eleven had long since gone off to the swamp in the sky. Thingamabob had served valiantly as his pet and companion, did his successor, Thingamabobby. Now that he was strolling back into the halls of Hogwarts, he needed someone to stroll with. He considered a Thingamabobette, but he decided he would prefer something shorter and easier to say this time.

The best part, of course, was picking one out from the many. Watch their movement, study their behaviors. Can't pick the ones that just sit there and do nothing, better that they have some gusto. Can't pick the ones who totally ignore his presence, they've got bummer energy. Gotta find the one with a sparkle in its eye, the one whose face says, 'I've got what it takes, I'm going to live life on full throttle, and no one can hold me back'.

Kels put his arm into the froggy aquarium as he had two times before, fishing out his new partner in crime. He picked up a contender, looking it dead in the eye to test its strength of will. It wouldn't be good if it was too jumpy or didn't mind getting held. This guy was going to be popular, she had to be the Churchill of frogs, charismatic! When it didn't flinch, Kels gave it a poke and wiggled it around in the air a bit. Sturdy as a rock.
