The Fiery Gets Fired
Every action had a consequence. That was one thing the fiery red-headed gryffindor prefect was learning, as she followed the professor of divination up the stairs towards the Headmaster's office, which was now temporarily the office of Ackerley Blackburn, the deputy head master. Heart pounding in her chest, the short girl climbed up the stairs, following the brisk footsteps of Professor Barrows. It was hard to believe that she was getting in trouble, after a few days of waiting for Professor Barrows to deal out her punishment, Eris had honestly thought she was going to get away with punching Eri Windstone in the face. Although, that no longer seemed likely.
The Professor of Divination was uncharacteristically silent as she lead Eris to the office, muttering a word to the Gargoyle, so that they sprung aside, and the two were allowed to step into the office.
Even in her present state of growing shock and fear for her prefect position, Eris had to admire the room around her. Not many students got to see the insides of the headmaster's office, she thought with an almost smug hint of a smile.
It was a large and beautiful circular room, the likes of which Eris had never seen before. Similar to what a real wizard's hideout looked like in the books or movies Eris had grown up on. The walls were covered with portraits of old headmasters and headmistresses, all of whom were snoozing gently in their frames. There was also an enormous, claw-footed desk, which the Deputy Headmaster sat at, and a spider ran around the room. The sight of the spider didn't really bother Eris, as she was well acquainted with Denise, after a few dreaded charms lessons. Eris was far more concerned about the look on the Deputy Headmasters face as he studied the, much shorter, red headed girl.
Seeing the Deputy Headmaster's face, and the disappointment written on it, Eris's mouth felt dry and her heart hammered even faster in her chest, and a feeling of butterflies . Vaguely aware of a conversation between the two Professors in the room, Eris rocked back and forth on the balls of her toes, trying to focus her gaze on anything but the Deputy Headmaster who was sitting so close to her.
The sounds of the professor's conversation faded away, as the red-headed girl tried desperately to calm the beating of her heart. But finally a word stuck, burning through the fog surrounding her thoughts and hearing. Fired. Eris was fired from being a prefect.
Eris didn't need to hear the rest of the conversation, nor the reasons why, as she managed to run out of the Headmaster's office, staggering down the stairs and past the Gargoyles with blind eyes. How would she live this down? How would she explain she had lost her job as a prefect to her friends? To anybody?
Under the feeling of overwhelming sadness and grief, there was a sense of relief that spread through the young girl's heart. She could now do whatever she wanted. And if that included punching ravenclaw know-it-alls, so be it. But that feeling of relief was swallowed up by the disappointment and shock of losing her role as a prefect, and the childlike fear of being looked down on, as a failure. And the worse fear of all; losing friends over losing her position. What would Reed think? What would Ezekiel think? What would Serena think? Would they still want to be her friends now that she wasn't one of them?
And her family. What if her mother hated her even more, for not being able to be a prefect for more than a month. And her father? What would be think, once Eris told him. Everything was bleak and dismal, and Eris felt too much at once.
In time she would be okay. That much was certain, although Eris couldn't tell, as she kept running blindly through the halls of Hogwarts. It wasn't the end of the world. Even though it really did feel like it. Mind reeling, Eris had no sense of were she was, as she staggered father and father away from the Headmaster's office, falling into objects and people alike.
Every action had a consequence. This was her's.
