The journey begins...
Evie stepped nervously into the quaint shop of Ollivanders. The smell in the air was a bit musty, almost like an ancient forest. Evie looked around at all the wand boxes lining the shelves behind the counter.
“Hello?” She called out and her answer was met with silence. She wished her mother had come with her but her mother wanted to do a bit of her own shopping and told Evie to go ahead with her.
Evie shifted uncomfortably as the seconds rolled by.
“Coming! Coming!” A voice hardened by age but still rather gentle sounded in the back corner.
A man with thick plumy silver hair came up to the counter and greeted Evie with a warm smile.
“Ahh! Miss Carson. I knew I would be expecting you any day now.” He said, delighted.
“Nice to meet you sir. I’ve come-” Evie paused suddenly realizing what he’d said.
“Hold on,” she began. “How is it that you know my name?” She said wide-eyed.
Mr. Ollivander chuckled.
“Evie Carson, daughter of Lady Eva Queen Carson and Sir Richard Lionel Carson.”
Evie stared at him dumb-founded and trying desperately to keep her jaw dropping in amazement
“Why, it seems like only yesterday when your parents were in here getting their first wands.” He continued. “Your mother’s was Chestnut and dragon core, 12 1/2 inches, with slightly yielding flexibility. Your father’s wand is made of Cypress and Wampus cat hair, 13 3/4 inches, unyielding flexibility.” Mr. Ollivander finished and began selecting some boxes off the shelf.
“Let’s go ahead and get started.” He said as he pulled out a measuring tape. “I have a slight idea of what may be best already but let’s get your measurements here.”
Evie stretched out her arms as Ollivander measured length and height.
“Mmm hmm! Let’s try this one.” He said as he went selected one of the boxes he had brought over.
“Aspen wood, unicorn hair, 8 3/4 inches, reasonably supple.” He stated as he handed her an ivory looking wand.
The excitement was thrilling, Evie hardly knew what to do.
“Go on, give it a wave!” Ollivander said encouragingly.
Evie waved the wand and a fireball erupted and hit one of the chairs by a table in the corner of the lobby area, destroying it to splinters.
Evie stared horrified at what happened.
Mr. Ollivander gave her a reassuring glance as he began selecting a different wand.
“Quite alright. Clearly not the one for you.” He said as he continued searching.
He brought a new box over with a darker looking wand.
“Very seldom are wands ever found on the first try. Let’s go with this one: Black Walnut, Rougarou hair, 11 1/2 inches, supple flexibility.” He handed Evie the wand and this time she was a bit more hesitant to test it out. Steeling her courage she gave it a waive and this time she received a sudden shock on her hand that was gripping the wand.
“Ouch!” She yelped as she dropped the wand and it fell to the floor. Evie tapped it once before picking it back up and handing it to Mr. Ollivander.
He gave her a sympathetic smile.
“Sir, what if there just isn’t a wand for me?” She said miserably.
“Nonsense.” Ollivander said with a wink. “We will end up finding it eventually.” Ollivander ignored the rest of the wands he had brought over and disappeared into the back.
“Ahh!” Evie could hear him say, faintly. “Could it be...that?”
Evie tried to peer back to where he had disappeared to but the dimly lit shop made it to difficult to see.
“I wonder about this one.” He said as he presented a slightly smaller box than the rest.
“Here we have Chestnut wood, Phoenix feather, 8 1/4 inches, flexible.”
Evie took the wand. It was shorter and slightly lighter than the other wand she had just tried. As she held it, there was something that just felt...right.
She waved the wand, suddenly feeling quite confident and pretty bursts of light erupted from the wand and danced briefly around the room before vanishing. Evie turned to Ollivander with the biggest smile on her face.
“Ahh! Hoorah!” Mr. Ollivander said clasping his hands gleefully.“At last we have found a match. That wand goes along well with highly intuitive witches or wizards who also have a certain affinity for nature.”
Evie was thrilled that finally she was able to get her wand.
“Oh! It’s the same wand wood as my mom.” She observed, intrigued.
“I suppose Chestnut runs in the family.” Mr. Ollivander chuckled slightly. “Now I’ll ring up the cost over here.” He said motioning her to the side.
Evie took out the money and gave it to Mr. Ollivander.
“Right, my dear. You’re all set!” He said with the same warm smile from when she had first come in.
“Thank you Mr. Ollivander! I’m so excited that my journey begins here. Good bye!” Evie said, beaming with excitement as she made her way to exit the store.
“Good luck Miss Carson! May you do great things with your new companion.” Mr. Ollivander said with a wave.
