Weekly Writing Exercises NaNoWriMo OOC

Hey all!

With Nov 1st as the official start of y'all writing your novels I want to provide weekly (possibly more frequent pending my availability) writing exercises to help you break you through writer's block, get you in the writing mindset, or just to give your brain a break from writing your story.

You can post your work here, and going under the word limit of 200 is allowed. But your post must be pertaining to one of the writing exercises if you'd like to share!

If you have any questions feel free to owl me or if it's pertaining to NaNo post here!

The Box
As a visual reference, select a box that has dimensions under 12X12 inches. Tape the box closed. Set the box in front of you. Write a story or poem based on what is inside the box.

Stream of Consciousness Writing
Set a timer, I recommend around 10 minutes, maybe more or less depending on how much time you're able to give. And just write. Literally don't stop. You can't think of anything? Just write one word over and over and over again until something comes up. Even if you get one idea out of it, it's worth it! This can help force your brain into writing mode or give it more freedom than we tend to give our creative brain.

Go All Out - Writing an Ending
Part of the fun of being a writer is creating endless possibilities. One of the responsibilities of an aspiring author is giving readers an end worthy of the story they’ve just read. No pressure right?

If you’re struggling with knowing how to end your story, shrug that sense of responsibility off and throw all storytelling limitations out the window. In other words, end your story with the most dramatic, tear-inducing, nail-biting, gasp-worthy, absurd ending you can think of. The kind of ending that would leave readers shouting, “WHAT!?”

And then reel it in slightly… Search through the chaos for any bits that might actually work. If there are none, ask yourself why this ending is so preposterous, and take note of what’s wrong with it until you start to get an idea of what the right ending looks like.

Stand in your own power.
