The late afternoon sun beamed brightly on the Hogwarts grounds. It was comfortably warm and students were getting their last bit of fresh air before returning inside for the rest of the day. Cade wanted to enjoy the nice weather and found himself out on the grounds with his sketchbook. He found a tall maple. Its leaves were just starting to turn an inspiring mix of red and orange. Cade sat underneath it and made himself comfortable. Flipping through his sketchbook he found a clear page and sat with it open, trying to figure out what he'll draw next.

He looked up from the book and watched some fourth years mess around with a fanged frisbee. They ran here and there not catching it with their hands but using a spell to magic the frisbee between them. Cade always used to wonder how that worked back when he browsed the joke shop in Diagon Alley. Had he more spending money, Cade would have bought everything in there. Finally deciding to draw an old tree, Cade immediately went to work starting with the base of the tree. Before he could really make progress, he heard something move up in the tree canopy. Squinting up into the branches, Cade didn't see anything. It must have been a squirrel. Cade continued sketching but whatever was moving up there was heavier than a squirrel.

Cade stood up, dropping his sketchbook. He looked up into the branches again. A shadow was climbing higher and higher up the tree. It was a boy! "Er... Hello?" Cade called up. He didn't know what else to say. This was rather unconventional. He'd never sat under a tree that was occupied in this way. A grin fell on his face, climbing a tree was pretty adventurous. It looked like fun.

Often times Quinn will goof around outside whenever he had free time. He was quite an energetic boy, always has been. You couldn’t even keep him still and solemn for thirty minutes unless he was asleep. To be able to would be a miracle. So since he had some time to kill, might as well go ahead and tire himself out.

Today, he was alone. No friends to accompany him, not that he had made many yet anyways.

Currently, he was sitting up in one of the big old trees located on the grounds outside the school’s main building. He hadn’t climbed in a little while, but still had a good hang on it. Quinn was very small and agile, so it was pretty easy to get up. His father had given him the nickname “baby squirrel” a few years back, for quite a few reasons but this was one.

Aside from it simply being fun for him, sitting high up in the tree made him feel on top of the world. He knows it’s sort of cheesy, but it brings him some sort of comfort to be able to look down on everything.

The leaves rustled as he climbed up from branch to branch. One probably snapping a bit, he couldn’t fully tell. Quinn was so caught up in what he was doing he hadn’t even realized someone was sitting below the tree until they called for him.

"Er... Hello?"

He looked down and was a bit surprised to see another boy below him.

Quinton climbed down a little bit to better hear the other. He sat on a branch facing away and let his body fall back. Hanging upside down and using his legs to keep him up, he made eyes contact with the boy. A smile spread across his face as he waved.

“Hey! Sorry I didn’t realize I had company.”

The tree canopy gave another great rustle as the shadow came closer to where Cade stood. And suddenly a boy swung down from the upper branches, hanging upside-down from the tree. Cade gave a slight gasp in surprise. He didn't expect to see a student in the tree. But then, who else would be climbing a tree at Hogwarts? It definitely wouldn't have been Headmaster Solomon Lear. Cade scowled at his own silliness. And he looked back at the boy who now spoke to him. "Hey! Sorry, I didn't realize I had company."

Cade was impressed with the boy's agility. He watched as he gave him an upside-down wave. He grinned at the boy's peculiarity. He was small and rather good at climbing. Black hair and tanned skin. Monolid eyes framed in round glasses. He seemed to be a lot of fun. Cade could use some fun, he had a week of stressful homework. Perhaps he was meant to come across this kid.

"How'd you even get up that high?" Cade asked the boy. He looked at the tree seeing no visible footholds. He almost wanted to try it out for himself. But Cade wasn't to be described as active. He rarely did any sports, preferring the strengthening of the mind than the body. But that didn't stop him from wanting to try. Forgetting about his sketchbook in the grass, he made his way to the base of the maple and examined it for possible low branches or footholds.

He examined the other boy for a brief moment. Even without being stood next to him, he could tell the other would be much taller. Ivory colored skin and deep brown eyes. Judging by the robes that the stranger wore, he was obviously a Ravenclaw.

"How'd you even get up that high?" The stranger asked him.

Quinn glanced back up at the tree, and then back down at the boy. He then shrugged.

"Hm...y'know I'm not so sure myself. I climb and have climbed many trees within my spare time so it just comes natural. I don't really think about it anymore. It's quite fun, you should join me!"

It was true, the activity just came as second nature. It wasn't truly that hard, he just didn't know how to correctly convey that. Quinn seemed pretty unbothered by the blood that was probably rushing to his face from hanging upside down. His cheeks somewhat noticeably turning a bit red. What he was doing was very obviously dangerous. Hanging upside down from a high up tree , one wrong swing and he was out. But the smaller was very confident in his abilities. Besides, it's not like he hasn't fallen out of a tree once or twice in his life before. You just condition yourself to get used to it.

"I can help you up if you want? You'll just have to give me a moment to pull myself back up."

He giggled softly, the same cheeky and cheerful smile remained on his face.

Cade beamed when the boy offered help. He seemed very bubbly and bright. It felt good and refreshing to have someone so nice and friendly around. Some students could be very rude and untrustworthy. Cade watched as the boy expertly moved around the tree branches. He suddenly remembered his manners.

"I'm Cade Darkbound, by the way. Sorry I failed to mention that before." He smiled a little. Cade was almost always forgetting to introduce himself nowadays. Life has become so busy for him, that he forgets the small details of greetings. Life around Hogwarts could be that way. There were surprises around every corner after all. "I think I might see a way up there." Cade spotted a small crevice to boost his way up to the first lower hanging branch. He made his way over to it and carefully started up the trunk of the tree. He was almost there when he slipped a little bit. He clung to the branch above him, eyes wide in surprise. "Er... a little help please!" He called to the boy. Cade's ears went pink, of course, he messed up in front of his potential friend. He hoped the boy didn't see him as some sort of try-hard.

Quinn swung back and forth a bit to gain some momentum in order to pull himself back up. Once he did, he grabbed onto a tree branch and pulled himself up. It took a bit of struggle, since he wasn't incredibly strong. But, he managed. Turning around carefully on the branch, he watched as the boy scanned the tree.

"I'm Cade Darkbound, by the way. Sorry I failed to mention that before."

"Don't worry about it too much! I'm Quinton, Quinton Lee. Though I'd just prefer you to call me Quinn, I like it better."

"I think I might see a way up there."

Quinn watched him from above as he started to climb the tree. So far so good, climbing a tree isn't that hard anyways. There's no way someone could mess this up. Right? Well not everyone was as used to it as Quinton was, and he realized that a bit too late. As he watched the boy step on the wrong spot he shouted,

"Wait wait no not there-"

He was unable to warn tCade in time, as he had already slipped back down to the base.

"Er... a little help please!"

"Of course!"

Quinn climbed down a little bit to better help the boy climb up. Once he felt he was low enough, he turned and held his hand out to Cade.

"Go ahead, grab my hand!"

Quickly, Cade took Quinn's hand. Holding tightly to him he managed to find better footing than the last time around. He carefully climbed up with the Gryffindor's aid. "Thank you." Cade gasped for breath. Now perched on a branch, Cade could see the fantastic view of the castle as well as the beautiful green grounds that surrounded it. "I can see why you spend time up in trees. This view is truly amazing." Cade craned his neck to see the black lake. He could just spot a tentacle rising up from the surface as if it were waving hello.

"How's Hogwarts been treating you, then? I think the classes are all right, don't you?"Cade asked gently. He was now attempting to be polite and get to know his new climbing comrade. He never really made a friend so unconventionally. But yet again, this was Hogwarts. Almost every meeting was unconventional. Cade was strongly reminded of an instance in the corridors where a girl had been trapped in the wall.

Cade clutched onto the bark of the tree, a little wary that he would fall again. The tree was cold to the touch but rough and sturdy. Even if he did fall off it wasn't too far from the ground. It only looked that way.

Quinn smiled and gave the boy a nod, scooting over on where he sat to give the other boy some room. His eyes scanned over Cade for a brief moment before turning back and watching the view again. He really felt he couldn't get enough of it, even if he's sat up here and seen it a few times already.

"I can see why you spend time up in trees. This view is truly amazing."

"It really is, I've found myself up here a lot since I arrived. It might just be my favorite spot."

He stared then down at the ground beneath himself, legs swinging back and forth.

"How's Hogwarts been treating you, then? I think the classes are all right, don't you?

"It's been quite good, I'm still having to get used to the early mornings. Not to mention the moving stairs. But it's pretty nice here overall. How about you, how do you feel so far? Made many friends yet? I've realized a large amount of people here can be quite mean, so be careful."

Quinn had found out that not many people enjoyed being around someone as energetic and noisy as he was. So it was a bit tough, but he was pushing through. It wasn't like he had absolutely nobody, he had a few friends. Besides, maybe he can even count on noting Cade as one of them eventually.

"How about you, how do you feel so far? Made many friends yet? I've realized a large amount of people here can be quite mean, so be careful." Cade heard Quinn ask. He looked at the boy and nodded.

"I have met a few people. I'm still deciding if I can call them friends. I haven't really had too much time to socialize, I'm afraid. You're right, there are so many strange people here. I'm lucky enough to never have an encounter as of yet." He took a hand and knocked on the branch he was sitting on. His mother believed in superstition so it wore off on him as well.

"What else do you like to do? Can't all be climbing trees." He wanted to get to know Quinn a little better. But he hoped he wasn't being too nosey. It dawned on Cade that he wasn't the best at talking. "I am a bit of a book worm. But I do play the bass." He looked away a little embarrassed about being completely boring. He hoped Quinn would see past this. Quinn seemed like a decent person that would turn a blind eye to someone's lack of hobbies.

Cade watched the students with Fanged Frisbees with more interest now that he had a better view. He had the urge to go to a joke shop and spend some coins. He wondered what Hogsmede village was like. For the first time, Cade wished he was a little older so he could have Peggy sign the permission form. He wasn't even sure she'd let him go if he was old enough. Perhaps it was best that some places of Hogwarts were kept off-limits. Most of the charm would fade if he had access to everything. He quite liked the mystery of it all.

"Yeah, I understand that. I've only met a few other people too. But then again, we have plenty more time to meet people. So I look forward to creating new relationships."

Quinn spoke with a smile. It was true, being quite a sociable person meant making friends normally came easier too him. But this year, a lot of people really seemed very closed off. He hasn't had much of a chance to find genuine friends.

"What else do you like to do? Can't all be climbing trees. I am a bit of a book worm. But I do play the bass."

"Ooh, that's cool! I wish I could play an instrument. And books aren't really my thing, so I steer away from them."

Before he continued, he paused. Hesitating a bit to continue with what he was gonna say. Eyes darting all around before he proceeded.

"I uh, I dance. It's my main hobby, before I was accepted here. I still do it, but I can't take classes anymore until summer rolls around again."

Quinton didn't speak much more on it, often times when he told his friends back home he danced...they didn't give a fond response. Always something along the lines of "that's too girly". So, he believed it. In a way he's somewhat bashful talking about it, though no matter what he never chose to stop.
