Getting to the *secret* side
Considering all the new information about magic and recent experiences with Gringotts, Leaky Cauldron and Diagon Alley, overflowing all of their senses and concept of reality, Verner and his parents were slowly starting to get used to how things worked in this new and unknown side of world. Verner's parents would just wander around curiously staring with their eyes peeled but minds fully occupied to force their mouths to stay closed as not to leave them openly gaping, facing everything new they found in the wizarding world. They certainly have been explained most of it previously, but hearing about it and living it first hand is always different.
However somehow or another they still managed to do a good job at making themselves presentable, at least that is what they believed, and they have also successfully guided Verner to the King's Cross station, with his trunk and bag of school supplies carefully placed on a cart. The tricky part would follow now. Getting to the platform 9 and 3/4.
The instructions given by the strange teacher when Verner received his Hogwarts letter were clear. In order to get to the *other* side, one must cross the wall between platforms 9 and 10. And so they all approached, still unsure of how things would develop from here. It might have been Verner's idea to stay a while and observe. Other families must also be in the same situation and letting someone's example and experience guide you might be a good idea.
And so they waited for couple of minutes, and noticed a small group of people with carts fully packed with trunks and other possibly school supplies to casually gain velocity and run against the wall. Just like that. Expecting something spectacular Verner and his parents observed carefully. But apart from the group disappearing, it looked like nobody has noticed anything strange. It was their time to follow the example now. Verner pushed his cart, his parents helping him and holding his hands both for comfort and out of the fear of getting separated, they started moving towards the wall. Once the cart was just about to hit the wall, it happened, suddenly all three of them were on the other side, looking at the steam powered locomotive marked with a plate that read "Hogwarts express". "We made it!" they exclaimed.
Now the parting would come, an event Verner and his parents were expecting and yet still were not fully prepared to handle. But the time does not wait, and so Verner hastily hugged his parents, shook his father's hand and kissed his mother's cheeks waving them goodbye. He then dragged his luggage onto the train, turned around for one more time and full of expectation of what would come next ...
