Cade waved one last goodbye to his mother and sister. Grinning he turned from the window and set about the long compartment corridor. Looking around he saw most of the cars were full. He wanted to make new friends but he was quite shy and wouldn't know how to start a conversation. Cade decided to find an empty one. He pulled his trunk with him bumping into other students along the way.

"Sorry," He mumbled squeezing past another crowd of third years standing in the hall.

At last, he found an empty compartment and heaved his trunk onto the luggage shelf. Falling into the window seat he sighed, exhausted from the effort. But now he had so much to think about! He had no clue what the next few days would look like, heck he couldn't imagine what the rest of his life! His brain was flying thinking about all the scenarios he might face as soon as he got off the train. He was so nervous about everything but his heart pounded with the pressure of excitement. He knew he was going to have a great time.

Cade pulled out his textbook Magical Theory and started to flip through the pages. He had bought this particular book second hand and it showed. The pages were brown and the spine brutally creased. The pages smelled of old people and socks. Cade tried to look past this, a book was a book. He spent the next few minutes reading the introduction in silence.

Cade's heart nearly jumped out of his throat when he heard a sudden rap on the compartment door. His dark brown eyes darted up from his book to see a curly-haired girl seeking out his attention. She was laden with a big backpack.

"Hello? Are these other seats taken?"

"Er- yes! I mean... you can sit here, they are all vacant." He tried smiling at her. He wanted to seem friendly. He couldn't quite believe someone would want to sit with him. However there weren't many compartments left as empty as his, so it wasn't quite the matter of who was in here. Cade shut his book, thinking that it would be rude to continue reading when he could have the chance to get to know another possible friend. He adjusted himself in his seat making sure he wasn't taking up too much space. It would be a long ride before they even got to Hogsmede station. Possibly more than seven hours. Cade wasn't exactly positive where Hogwarts was. He knew it was somewhere in the Scottish highlands but other than that he couldn't be too sure.

"I'm Cade Darkbound. It's my first year at Hogwarts." He told her, hoping he wasn't being obnoxious. Introductions were important, however, and it was the best way to start a conversation.

Cade's eyes widened as Luna poured intense amounts of energy onto him. She was a ball of light. A bubbly sprite. Clearly, she realized her intensity and dialed herself back. In order to keep up with her Cade would have to reply to her with just enough information. He decided to start out with the hogwarts houses. He knew there were four. Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw, and Slytherin. His mother, Peggy has been a proud Hufflepuff back in her years of school. She never failed to recount her good conduct and popularity whenever she had the chance. Cade's father, Charles had been in Slytherin. His ambition clearly taking the forefront of his sorting. Cade wondered where he would be sorted.

"I dunno which house I'll be sorted into. Just as long as they put me somewhere." He shrugged. "Could you imagine if I didn't fit anywhere? They'd probably kick me out. I suppose Ravenclaw is a fine house. I do love to learn." He smiled at her when offered candy and he reached over picking out a Fizzing Whizbee and an Acid Pop. "Thank you." He ripped off the wrapper of the Acid Pop and stuck it in his mouth, his eyes instantly watering.

"What's your favorite candy?" He asked once the sensation of his tongue burning subsided.

Cade laughed at Luna's contorted face when she tried the acid pop. She didn't look at all comfortable. Cade had forgotten about the sound-producing sweets. It had been so long since he first tried one. The last time he had made a noise quite like this very train, and his ears were popping for hours later. He remembered why he hadn't eaten one again.

"Do you not like Acid pops?" Cade giggled. "The flavor never gets any better it's always as sour. Have you ever tried a Fizzing Whizbee? They're fun. When you eat them they'll make you float!" He put aside his pop and carefully opened the Fizzing Whizbees, he put one in his mouth. The candy popped around inside making gentle fizzing noises. Then suddenly Cade was lifted from his seat a few feet into the air. His head could touch the top of the train. He looked down at Luna grinning.

Just then the train started to move out of the station. Cade's eyes widened as the train began to take up speed. He gently floated down back to his seat after a few seconds and let out a breath. "For a moment I thought I'd be stuck up there for the entire train ride." He looked out the window. London was passing by quickly and soon they were out in the countryside.

Cade was eyeing some rolling farm fields and rivers go by when there was the sound of someone clearing their throat. Looking up quickly he noticed a brown-haired girl standing in the compartment door. She stood very awkwardly as if unsure of herself. Cade was relieved to find that he clearly wasn't the only one feeling nervous about being on the train alone. He was glad Luna had joined him in the compartment and she was friendly, but now that this newcomer had joined Cade felt obligated to make sure she felt at least comfortable in their presence.

"Can I join you guys if you don't? Mind?" The girl asked them. Cade's brown eyes glanced at Luna quickly before nodding quickly and gesturing to the seats left open. The girl introduced herself as Everly Charlton. Cade noticed her tendency to ramble and contradict herself. He wondered if it was just her nerves talking once again. Cade tried to put on a friendly face.

"Please do!" He took up his Acid Pop again preferring not to float from the Fizzing Whizbees at this moment. The air was already a little tense now that another stranger had come in, he wouldn't want to be floating around in it. "My name is Cade Darkbound." He wasn't sure if he should add more. Knowing that they would have plenty of time to get to know each other or not talk at all. He was fine with both options, being an amiable introvert. Popping the candy back in his mouth he tried not to make another face as the sour flavor overwhelmed his senses.

In any case, Cade decided it would be nice to add a bit of small talk to at least ease some tension out of the room. It too would serve as an excuse to relieve his mouth of the sour Acid Pop. "Looking forward to Hogwarts, Everly? Luna here was just telling me about which house she wants to be in." The prompt was an easy one. As he knew they all had one thing in common. Learning how to be a witch and wizard.
