Midway through Breakfast

Miranda had been busy editing an essay due later today, and had missed the first half of Breakfast. That was the reason why she rushed into the hall, later than most. The majority of the seats at the Ravenclaw table were full, but Miranda managed to find a couple empty ones towards the far end of the seating area, and gladly sank down.

While not necessarily hungry, Miranda still had enough of an appetite to force her to grab a couple pieces of toast and spread some marmalade on them. She also poured herself a cup of orange juice, than downed it quickly.

This morning the ceiling was an even grey, and Miranda sighed as she gazed up at it. Not even a trace of sunlight could be found - the clouds were too thick. At least it didn't look like it would rain...yet.

Ready to be rid of the depressing thoughts, Miranda bit into her toast, chewing quickly. She was anxious to leave, because while it would be all too easy to jump into one of the conversations being held around her, Miranda had never been that willing to talk. Not unless she was invited, or there was a good reason for the impromptu interruption.

Jane was walking fast towards the Great Hall with her belly gurgling. Her spell class had ended thirty minutes earlier, but the girl wanted to work a little in the common room before eating. She was now late and did not want to miss the meal. A little tired, she arrived in the great hall and sat down at the Ravenclaw table.
While the girl was eating pudding, she heard two students mocking another student. Jane looked up to the sky. She who hated injustice was certainly not going to stand idly by. Her shyness was quickly replaced by anger when she cried out:
-No, but stop! What’s the point of doing that?
After her remark, the two students remained silent, somewhat surprised. Jane gradually came to her. No, but what had he taken from her. Interfering in this way would cause her trouble. She smiled timidly and made a gesture with her hand:
-No, uh forget.... Continue your conversation quietly.
Jane turned to sigh. She was really stupid. Why did she speak, but why?!
Jane continued to eat, her cheeks red. She was so ashamed. It was then that she noticed a young blonde witch sitting in front of her. She seemed kind and benevolent. Jane smiled at him with her cheeks still burning. She hesitated. Talk to him or not talk to him. Finally, she preferred not to, having ridiculed herself enough for the day.

Miranda continued to eat, not paying much attention to the conversations around her as she focused on her own thoughts, and the research she'd memorized in preparation for the coming Herbology exam. While she'd never been particularly gifted with plants, she was better with them than she was at Charms, her overall worst class. It seemed that the only spells she could ever cast were ones used for Defense of Offense, such as in a duel. Or ones she practiced way to much so she could solve simple problems with them.

However, a sudden, surprisingly distressed voice made her look up, her gaze ranging along the table as she sought the source of the unexpected sound. Finally Miranda settled upon a young girl, perhaps a year younger, with pale skin, brown hair, and brilliant blue eyes. A red shine rose on her cheeks as two other students, and a few other Ravenclaws up and down the table, stared at her. Miranda had no idea what had happened - she hadn't even caught what exactly the girl had said, only the sound of her voice, but it apparently made the other girl feel embarrassed, because she murmured an apology of sorts under her breath and continued to eat.

For a long moment, Miranda hesitated, wondering whether the younger girl would appreciate her reaching out. However, her burning curiosity couldn't be ignored for long, and soon Miranda found herself setting down the pieces of her half-eaten toast and smiling at the other Ravenclaw.

"Hey...I'm Miranda Everest." She figured an introduction would probably be the best way to start. It helped to have something to call anyone you talked to in your head. "The girl" got old quickly. After that, she said nothing more, instead deciding to wait and see what response she would receive.

Jane puts her face back on her plate, embarrassed. She still doesn't understand what he took from her. She knows she hates injustice but to the point of overcoming her shyness? Jane doesn't understand. She is embarrassed and hopes not to see her comrades again. She knows very well that it is impossible, they are in the same castle, certainly in the same house. Jane sighs.
A voice brings her out of her thoughts. She raises her head. A young blonde girl then introduces herself. Her name is Miranda. Jane has never seen him. She looks a little older than her, she must be in second grade. She's a Ravenclaw, her uniform confirms it. Jane's cheeks turn even redder. The young girl must have heard what happened a few moments earlier. Maybe she'll laugh at her. With a beating heart, Jane introduces herself in turn:

- Hi, I'm Jane.
Then Jane picks up her fork and starts eating again. She has no expectations for the discussion. Miranda must certainly find her stupid. The meal burns her tongue. She takes her glass of water and drinks but almost suffocates. She puts it down immediately and gives her comrade an embarrassed smile. "No, what a fool I am," she thinks. Jane breathes slowly to calm herself. She waits for Miranda answer. As if she were reading his mind, she answers ...
