"where even is the Owlery?" asked Sophie, clutching her robes closer to her. Wind could be heard howling outside of the castle, and it was just as cold inside.
"I'm pretty sure it's this way," said Alex, walking down a corridor to his left, the others following behind him. Sure enough, the group emerged into a circular room. Alex headed towards a set of stone stairs that led up towards a window, but stopped at the sound of a sickening crack beneath his feet.
"Oh God, that's gross..." muttered Nova, taking a step back as he saw the skeleton of what must be some kind of rodent get crushed under Alexander's shoe.
"You've just got a weak stomach,"shrugged Alex, as he continued to walk up the stairs to the window.

Alexander sat down and pulled a large notepad and a bullet point pen out of his bag. He really should have been using a quill, but he found them hard to right with.
"I don't understand why they don't just let you write with normal pens," Io muttered, sitting down on the windowsill beside Alex. "This place is weird."
"It's amazing, though," sighed Sophie. "It's all just so....Magical!"
"You don't say," Io retorted with a roll of his eyes.

"It's a pity Mono had to miss out on all of this..." Said Nova, as Alexander ripped a piece of paper out of the notepad.
"well, that's why we're writing to him, so he doesn't feel left out."

Alexander thought for a moment, before finally putting pen to paper...

Mono Charon Rome,
Hey mono! It's been a while. How are you holding up at home?
I'm guessing it's probably quite lonely... Maybe you should invite some friends over, or something.

Hogwarts is absolutely brilliant-

"No, no, no, don't write that!" Io exclaimed, snatching the pen and paper off of Alexander. "You don't want to make him feel bad because he can't come here. I'll write the rest." Io scribbled out the previous line, and started to write again...

Hogwarts isn't that great. The castle's cold, the classes are hard. Honestly, I wish I could come back home to you. I know sitting at home is kind of lonely, bet at least you get to see Mum and Dad. I can't wait until winter; I'm going to come back home over-

"Oh, we aren't going home over winter, are we? Spending christmas here would be brilliant... I don't want to miss out on a wizard christmas!"
"It would be nice to see Mum and Dad again, but you're right. I want to know what a magic christmas is like." Said Alexander, smiling at the thought. Sophie took the paper, and once again continued to write...

I'm going to come back home over-
I've heard they put up giant christmas trees in the halls, and someone told me that they use pixies as decorations! Imagine that? real pixies!

"Oh, you're going to make him feel bad because he's missing this...here, I'll write the rest." Said Nova, taking the paper.
For the last time, Nova continued the letter...

Of course, I'm really sorry that you can't be with us. I miss you, and I'm sorry I won't be home over Christmas. But don't worry, we'll be back by summer. Just you wait, the time will fly by!
We'll be home before you know it.

Alex took an envelope from his bag, and put the letter into it. He sealed the envelope, and set it on the windowsill. An owl quickly picked it up, carrying it into the distance.
"Alright, let's go! It's freezing up here..." Said Sophie, and together, the group left the tower.



Alexander walked out of the tower alone. A letter was left sitting on the window sill of the owlery. A little while later, a gust of wind blew the letter out of the tower. It flew through the air, before falling into the lake. It sank to the bottom, levaing only a few ripples on the surface of the water.
