I decided I would participate in Artober this month. It's actually something I've never heard of and I am quite excited to give it a go. IRL I am a designer who never fully learned to sketch or felt I was decent at it. Most, if not all, of my work is digital, but sometimes you have to sketch to get an idea across. They say practice makes perfect, so why not give this a shot and involve some fun harry potter themes?

Day 1: Potions Bottles

I figured I would start with the first thing people say to practice sketching... HANDS! I made an attempt at shading, and boy has it been a while since I have sketched. Overall I am pretty happy with it~

Day 2: Hogwarts Express

So I sketched this from a photo I took when I rode the Jacobite Train in Scotland, which has the same sort of compartments as you see in the movies, as well as it obviously goes over the Glenfinnan Viaduct. I had to merge two images, which... well... the train ended up a bit wonky. The viaduct looks really nice though!

Day 3: Messenger Owl

Not gonna lie, I had to break down and use a tutorial for this one. Animals are just a HUGE no-go for me, but I am actually pretty happy with how this came out! Hopefully this will be my future horned owl

Day 4: Wizarding Robes

Alright, this one took me way back to my doodles in school. I always loved the anime style, and this one I tried to exude that in. Here is my little firstie Starlee in her Slytherin robes!

Day 5: Brewing a Potion

So I decided to make a setup lab for the 'Cure for Boils' Potion! All the ingredients are assembled and labeled, as well as the necessary tools, like the mortar and pestle. All you need to do now is follow the directions! I might do some more Prisma marker drawings again, this one was quite fun!

Day 6: Starry Night

So I knew there was no way I would ever be able to totally sketch out the castle, so I took some inspiration from my line drawing experience and somewhat abstracted the castle to simple linework. And then I added stars and a nice full moon! I really like this piece, you can clearly tell what it is and I had a lot of fun doing it!

Day 7: Wand

Got a bit behind, but I'm catching up this weekend! Here is Starlee's wand! It was actually a lot of fun to draw the wood intertwining around itself. Onto the next one!

Day 8: The Great Hall

Wow, this one was a toughy. Looking back, it would have been nice to pick out one of those side beams and do a little detail drawing of it, but oh well. Perspective wise I struggled a bit, but I really like how my Christmas tree came out!

Day 9: Broom

Simple, but a lot of fun! I really like the shading I added to the handle, I feel it bumped this up a level. Plus the lettering looks really sleek, so another Artober day bites the dust!
